animal cruelty this horse does not want to be on stone and cement standing for hours in one spot. Horses want to be on grass and they are herd animals so want to be with other horses. Tradition is causing harm to these horses. Why cant the guards just stand there?
There'll be plenty of time for that, but right now he's a beautifully trained and kept, working, military horse. This is his job. Horse and riders do their jobs well and represent the King to perfection. Wild fields and pasture running are his future.
I find this entire Kings Guard manure and abusive for the animals standing there for hours. Totally disgusting . This is pomp and circumstance? WHATS THE PURPOSE? WHAT ARE THEY GUARDING ?? LET ME KNOW
Circles were probably turned deliberately by the rider for everyone’s safety. Makes it very hard for a horse to run off. Ideall y on an open field for example you’dbturn your runaway horse in ever decreasing circles but not so so easy and more urgent in a restricted space.
The horse gave crystal clear indications he was stressed and annoyed (pawing, chewing, moving around, ears pinned) even the two kids felt the horses negative energy and hesitated walking in front of him....sadly no one listened to what the horse was saying.
The horse's job is to stand there - they are trained extensively, I'm sure. If he has a bad day, that's fine. But he still has a job to do. Removing him the first time he acts up negates the extensive training he has been given. The rider controlled him and maneuvered his mount back to his post. However, with the second episode, the decision to then remove him was prudent.
I don't know how those horses can stand all the noise and rude people around them all the time while standing guard. I know they're trained to deal with it but I still don't see how they can be so patient and the guards are quite impressive in how they manage those horses. Bless their hearts.
I agree with you, many of the horses also throw their heads up too, they wear a chain martingale type which restricts how far they can reach or I am sure the guards would be hit with the head coming back which leads me to think they are aware of the problem. Many years I witnessed a rider having his nose broken. There are several things that could cause problems start at the bit and work your way round the horse it breaks my heart to see these Beautiful animals in such distress!
The chain is not a martingal. The horses wear a cavalry bridle with the headpiece and bit able to be removed leaving the horse in just a headcollar. The chain is attached to the headcollar and looped around the horses neck like an ordinary lead rope. It's made of chain because they are cavalry horses. In the days of mounted combat the chain would offer some protection from a sword slash to the horses throat.
@@iaidoman after all these years it’s time to get some thing new . I never saw so many horses protest against there bit . I know that many dressage riders agree with this
Hi Nar thanks and your info. I was thinking of a standing martingale but as the chain was attached to the headcollar I couldn't at time of writing think of a better name. Having worked for many years with horses and ponies I could stand still if one of my charges began to throw its head about. The guards are good at calming their horses but it worrys me that a young child held by parent too close and gets caught by the horse.
There's actually a "panic button" for the rider to press before the horse actually gets so out of control. I was surprised the horse wasn't listened to and removed as it was, not just asking, but demanding to be taken out of there. That slippery pavement could have caused an injury to both horse and rider...
Me too, it is not pleasant to stand on a hard concrete, staring by crowds , who are noisy and disrespectful…hope the horse and the rider does not have stay whole day ?
@@ogathingo8885 As I am thinking, the horses and riders are only required to do one hour shifts. But sometimes, that one hour is just too long for these beautiful horses. And those swords must be weighing a ton by the end of the rider's obligatory hour.
Oh, the poor thing. So stressed. He just didn't know what to do with himself. I wish the rider would've just brought him back to the stables to rest after the first episode.
The horses are special trained to stand there. They trained to ignore noise, people surrounding them and any other distractions. Usually a horse pawing with one leg means it's impatient or frustrated. I think that the guards and soldiers were aware..but the post can not be left unguarded, so I do believe they were trying to speed up the shift change, whilst reassuring both the guard and the horse.
Someones gonna get really hurt one day. This horse has had enough. The guard is a wonderful handler and knows what to do. But people need to stand back and give them some space!
To a horse handler, it is obvious that either there is a horsefly biting his underbelly (which would mean they missed a spot with the insect repellant) or his tack is pinching. Of course he could be just having a bad day… just saying most trained horses won’t act up unless there is a reason.
exactly ... the way he was trying to rub his chest or his leg was obviously something or even sweat irritating him well done on the handler trying to reassure him, it was kind to see..
I taught beginners' riding years ago. Horses are not machines- they've good & bad days just as we do. They have social habits, have likes, dislikes, anxieties, become ill or sore just as we do. Some figured this out sooner than others..😅
If he is getting bitten they shake and move their head or attempt to move their heads around to where it is. He is just having a bad day he could be a new horse as well
Quietly handled by the young guard. These beautiful horse's have off days too. As for the tourists well, poor horse's and guards to have to put up with all this. Look forward to seeing them at the beach again. Good job boy's.
@@jeanniewarken5822 I think this has been answered. If I remember correctly, his name is Sam Watkins and he is a Rastafarian; there are several serving in the British forces. Look him up on the internet, he's an impressive guy!
Sorry, I got the name of the Guard in camo with the beard and long hair wrong. He is Sam Wallace and he's an excellent soldier. He is Rastafarian and has permission to wear long hair and beard.
A horse might stomp when he's impatient. This behavior is often seen when a horse has been tied up for a long period of time, or around feeding time. Repeated stomping can quickly turn into pawing, and the horse normally does it to catch your attention and express his impatience.
I so admire those who appreciate, handle, understand, study the behavior and science of these magnificent horses! What a special gift, and talent to understand and have a special bind with them. Talk about loving a job and being paid for what you love to do!👏👏👏
The horse is tired of being treated like he is in a petting zoo. He is working and expects the respect he is due. I don’t blame him for being angry. His guard is doing a great job working with his partner.
I’ve watched several horses really enjoying the attention from the tourists, but I’ve also seen so many being pestered by people who think the horse guards are entertainment. There are real working soldiers with their trained horses. I can’t help but wish people would not be allowed to get so close to the horse & rider. I can’t believe how many make sudden moves & loud noises. Bless the horses & the soldiers for their hard work & service. You look wonderful!!!🙏🏼🤗💕
I don’t believe in these beautiful animals having to stand so long, it’s usually the martingale and bit that bothers some of them. Guard did a great job but the public are so stupid. I have horses but I’ve had lots of mishaps , people forget how strong these horses are. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I would just point out that no Cavalry horse wears a martingale. What you can see are the leather bridoon or snaffle reins hanging loose, or the steel teather chain, which is attached to the headstall. Most of the trouble that the troopers have with their mounts are the inevitable problems that occur between the necessity for the horse to do what it is told, when told and (the tricky part) for as long as it is required, and trying to take into account the wants and needs of an intelligent, sensitive, and often self opinionated animal, surrounded by well intentioned idiots.
@@oldharpydisguised709 Thank heavens! The voice of reason! I hope everyone reads your response because it answers their questions, calms their fears and hopefully educates a few. Well done!
Horse was just relieving it's boredom. It's criminal the way they have to stand in a guard box without having a chance to move about. Good on the horse for doing what it wanted to.
When in London, several years ago, we found the police to be so nice and friendly. We were at Buckingham Palace for the changing of the guards. You’d think the police would be so sick of tourists, being that’s a popular event that many like to see. But no, they were so kind. Love London.
The rider - guard did a great job steering the horse back into the stall. It mustn't be easy holding the reins with one hand and the sword with the other.
"Unexpected!" ???😂 ...everything about that horse's movements from the head to the tail and feet indicates it's crowd anxiety was going to result in some kind of something happening...happy to see it was mostly uneventful and that they helped the horse not to feel hemmed in...❤
It almost appeared as though her B was sitting wrong in her mouth the way she kept jumping and licking, she's definitely irritated not just by the crowds that she's trying to be used to. She definitely was having a rough day! Kudos to the guard staff. For the parent that have the baby in that stroller and just stood there while that horse was clearly in distance to have kicked that poor baby in the head, I hope they see this video in realize how close they were to a really awful day!
I couldn't believe that mother did nothing while that huge animal was in distress. Makes me think of those idiots that get so close to bison or elk at national parks.
He;s had enough, fed up with standing there, doesn't like all the noise, he's not used to it yet, its a newbie.. plus he probably knows its nearly time for changeover, when he can be led away and is impatient for it.
These wonderful creatures also have bad days, heat, insects, crowds, lots of voices, traffic and of course they get nervous or something hurts them in the whole story , people they are worst.
I wish some of the commentators would get their facts right. These beautiful horses DO NOT stand for hours at a time. They stand for ONE hour, they are taken back to the stables where they are groomed and looked after. The public need to learn to stand back
People need to learn that when a horse pins back it’s ears you need to back off. This is a clear sign that the horse is uncomfortable with the situation.

The most difficult job is keeping these beautiful horses from slipping over. Guards do a great job in the circumstances theyre in. ♡
SO IMPRESSED, THANK YOU FOR THE JOB YOU DO, OUTSTANDING ANIMALS EVEN ON A TRYING DAY FOR THEM THEY STILL TRY 👍👌😊
Pawing the ground, chewing that bit and shaking head up and down tells you something was uncomfortable for him.
I think he may seen the Queen's Ghost
The bit, by the looks of it.
Spot on he is saying go away and leave me alone.
Won't people learn just look at them and admire from a distant
I thought the same maybe the horse bit down wrong or the guard accidentally pulled too hard maybe
Quiere agua...
I think they should stop doing this. People are to stupid around animals. I feel for the horses.
And that pawing of the leg is why i hate seeing small children standing and petting a horse near their legs..
Me too 😢 if a horse hurt a kid people would blame the horse.
I saw one of the horses grab a female tourist’s pony tail as she turned to walk away!
He is not a happy camper!!!!!
@@deidracalvert2738 OH WOW - THAT IS BAD !!!!! I HOPE THAT IT DIDN'T HURT HER .
@@laurieschapro6036 yes, she walked off, she seemed ok..
Brilliant handling soldier
Well done to this guard he seemed in full controll of the situation with his horse spinning true professional you will go far❤❤❤❤❤🐴🐴👍👍
...did you hear that dumb woman in the background say "he's doing that on purpose"...tourists.....
I find this entire Kings Guard manure and abusive for the animals standing there for hours. Totally disgusting . This is pomp and circumstance?
WHATS THE PURPOSE? WHAT ARE THEY GUARDING ?? LET ME KNOW
Oh wow!! He is a fiesty one. The spins were impressive. Well done too the Guard. Tourists just standing there not moving.❤️🏴
....especially the woman in the blue top who had to be pushed out of the way by the policeman!
😡😡😡😡Stupid. They must think it's a circus trick 🤬
Circles were probably turned deliberately by the rider for everyone’s safety. Makes it very hard for a horse to run off. Ideall y on an open field for example you’dbturn your runaway horse in ever decreasing circles but not so so easy and more urgent in a restricted space.
@@fusspot57 Nut's!!
That woman in the blue top was standing there to have her photo taken 🙄
People are idiots, they forget that they are on Duty..
I agree 100% that the bit are probably a big issue here
@@maxinegerber-mom1874 those bits have been around cavalry horses for over 200 years.
Perfectly executed 👏🏼 well done 😊
I felt very sorry for the horse, he was stressed with all the crowds and it looked as though the rider was starting to become stressed too.
That was right on the edge, and the baby in the buggy! Unbelievable. Well done!
Oh, the poor thing. So stressed. He just didn't know what to do with himself. I wish the rider would've just brought him back to the stables to rest after the first episode.
Mad horse clears out crowd. bravo!!
I agree. A bored horse is a troublemaker...lol
This horse is very stressed. Relieve it of its duty for the day. It's time for a fence to distance the crowds
The is guard is fantastic good control of his horse your good men…Thank you for your service Respect
They should not make him stay there he's to stressed
Someones gonna get really hurt one day. This horse has had enough. The guard is a wonderful handler and knows what to do. But people need to stand back and give them some space!
All the Guards handle the horses great. They have respect for them and horses trust them.
This is a beautiful thing to see our Kings horses and guards the uniforms are spectacular
To a horse handler, it is obvious that either there is a horsefly biting his underbelly (which would mean they missed a spot with the insect repellant) or his tack is pinching. Of course he could be just having a bad day… just saying most trained horses won’t act up unless there is a reason.
Definitely uncomfortable, tack is pinching or something hurts. He keeps licking, could be the bit.
exactly ... the way he was trying to rub his chest or his leg was obviously something or even sweat irritating him well done on the handler trying to reassure him, it was kind to see..
Thats how I feel too. His bit may have been uncomfortable
He is just having a bad day he could be a new horse as well
Those alcoves should be cleaned out. What guard or horse wants to deal with it for hours
Quietly handled by the young guard. These beautiful horse's have off days too. As for the tourists well, poor horse's and guards to have to put up with all this. Look forward to seeing them at the beach again. Good job boy's.
I’d be mad if I had to stand in one place too!! Poor horse!!!
That soldier in camo knows his horses too. He has a calming effect on the horse.
The guards all dress like that when they aren't on parade duty.
@@janedenktasli1015 Oh thank you, I did not know that.
Unusual to see a soldier with non regulation hair and beard..maybe he was a seik...
The horse is saying, I'm sick of this military bullcrap! I did not volunteer for this trash.
Horses are very sensitive animals, and sometimes dislike people , thinking nasty thoughts or with peculiar smells.😮
Talk about loving a job and being paid for what you love to do!👏👏👏
I can’t believe they’re continuing with this, obviously stressed, Horse!

Poor horses don't want to stand still for hours
People forget they are sentient animals, not machines!
It's obvious that this horse is very upset, And it's the people around Him. It's making very nervous.😮😮😮😮
Boy this horse is angry, not only is he stomping look at he’s ears he is mad as hell. Stand clear when you see this behaviour.🥺🥺
I doubt these tourists would treat their own military with that lack of respect
@@oldharpydisguised709 a self opinionated animal??
THEY ARE ONLY OUT THERE FOR AN HOUR
@@oldharpydisguised709 Thank heavens! The voice of reason! I hope everyone reads your response because it answers their questions, calms their fears and hopefully educates a few. Well done!
They stand for 1hr.
These horses are brilliant. They have internal time clocks that tell them when it's time to move on and go home.
The bell helps too.
Horse was just relieving it's boredom. It's criminal the way they have to stand in a guard box without having a chance to move about. Good on the horse for doing what it wanted to.
Only one hour. It's nothing. They only do it once per week. They have a wonderful life❤
When in London, several years ago, we found the police to be so nice and friendly. We were at Buckingham Palace for the changing of the guards. You’d think the police would be so sick of tourists, being that’s a popular event that many like to see. But no, they were so kind. Love London.
It's a wonder people don't get kicked more. They're too close crowding around...
Sam-the horse whisper, i wonder if he has the magical touch with all animals.
Do you know how much concentration you have to have to manage a horse thats acting up and those fools are just standing there
The rider - guard did a great job steering the horse back into the stall. It mustn't be easy holding the reins with one hand and the sword with the other.
Those young men and women are great controlling the horses. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I can not believe some of these people, please put up a fence
"Unexpected!" ???😂
...everything about that horse's movements from the head to the tail and feet indicates it's crowd anxiety was going to result in some kind of something happening...happy to see it was mostly uneventful and that they helped the horse not to feel hemmed in...❤
The horse was already scraping a lot over the stones.
This behavior is often linked to excitement, stress, boredom, nervousness or anxiety.
I know very little about horses, but the horse seemed to calm down when the rear doors were left open. Perhaps he /she was getting overheated.
Here's an idea, restrict the public access near the horses!!
Poor horse he needs rest in the country with his guard 🙏🌞
It almost appeared as though her B was sitting wrong in her mouth the way she kept jumping and licking, she's definitely irritated not just by the crowds that she's trying to be used to. She definitely was having a rough day! Kudos to the guard staff. For the parent that have the baby in that stroller and just stood there while that horse was clearly in distance to have kicked that poor baby in the head, I hope they see this video in realize how close they were to a really awful day!
I couldn't believe that mother did nothing while that huge animal was in distress. Makes me think of those idiots that get so close to bison or elk at national parks.
Yes. I thought that the bit in her mouth was irritating her. She kept moving her jaw incessantly.
If you know anything about horses you know this one is really stressed.
These visitors have no respect!!! Stand behind the "barracades"!!!!
This is so cruel. The horse has no choice here and to subject him to this kind of treatment is cruel.
Awww he was having an off day they should have let him finish his shift early
Why can the people not behave the way they should. Poor horses.😮
That was a very dangerous situation. Glad the horse got in control finally.
Do the poor horses get in trouble when they break protocol?
He;s had enough, fed up with standing there, doesn't like all the noise, he's not used to it yet, its a newbie.. plus he probably knows its nearly time for changeover, when he can be led away and is impatient for it.
Och bless😊
I wish they would clean the boxes more often. Those beautiful horses shouldn't have to stand in their own waste for hours.
These horses are only in box for an hour!
These wonderful creatures also have bad days, heat, insects, crowds, lots of voices, traffic and of course they get nervous or something hurts them in the whole story , people they are worst.
The horse is clearly uncomfortable! I don't understand why they put these poor animals trough this agony???
The poor horse has been putting up with these people for hours. Standing in the same position, just cruel.
1 hr at a shift I believe.
For 1 hour max . Deduct inspection and 2 change- overseas 45 mins in the box.
No. Only one hour per week
I wish some of the commentators would get their facts right. These beautiful horses DO NOT stand for hours at a time. They stand for ONE hour, they are taken back to the stables where they are groomed and looked after.
The public need to learn to stand back
Those horses and guards are working…. They need a gate to keep people away from them….
Well done 👏👏👏👏 are the Guards and horses there day and night?
10 til 4 the gates are locked at night.
