I’m an octogenarian. I grew up around horses. Some horses absolutely cannot tolerate being around a person who smells of alcohol. I saw one bite my father on the cheek ripping a 3” semicircular piece of it out and down his cheek exposing his teeth! That was the only time my dad had consumed more than 2 beers in a day. He walked right up to him cigarette in had grabbing the reins, the horse showed the whites of his eyes. As he threw his leg over, the horse pined his ears back. He rered up, slipped in the mud, and went over backwards on him. I told him I told you to get rid of the cigarette.
We treat horses very cruelly. Horses in fields are usually calm and quiet. But horses with headgear (I can’t remember what it’s called) are constantly moving their heads and “dancing” around. It’s obvious they are in great discomfort, at the very least, with all that stuff in their mouths, being constantly tugged and pulled.
My dog acts up when a neighbor who drinks a lot comes up to him being ‘friendly’. I think it’s the odor of the alcohol. He just does not want him near. I request the neighbor just leave him alone.
Yes a horse could easily bolt into the crowd, because of some Clown, pulling at the reins, but thank God, the horse Gaurds know how to settle the horses down.
Interference with a royal guard or service animal should impose a £80 on the spot fine. It is not acceptable that they are subjected to this on a daily basis. You can't underestimate the level of stupid your gonna come across. They put both horse and rider at risk.

These Royal Guards have so much patience to deal with the ignorant people disrespectful of the horses/guards. The horse was clearly scared and you could see the difference how they calmed down and instantly felt safer with the reassurance from the guard(s).
That was a whole mess of people being rude and downright thoughtless . Those quads on the road gunning their engines . What were they thinking ?? Either of those horses and the guards could have been hurt not to mention all the people milling around . The one fellow who was getting the horse upset why wasn't he removed ? Good on the riders and the their fellow police and soldiers for keeping things calm and keeping all safe.
I think it’s the drums. The horse could think he’s going on parade and doesn’t want to stand still. Protests should be banned from Whitehall. But it’s the main road to Downing Street.
Judging from appearances, that horse wasn't that upset - a stressed horse will 'wash out' i.e. sweat profusely. He looked more like he was bored,& wanted to go for a run intead of standing 'in the box'. Can't blame him for that! If he were truly panicking or rebelling, he would not have been placing his feet so precisely; he would have been slipping and scrambling on the stone underfoot. He sure showed off for the tourists! That beautifully balanced rearing was very like a levade,& he certainly demonstrated his ability at the piaffe( trotting in place, with no forward motion) Those form part of the 'haute ecole' moves traditionally taught Lipizzaners at the Spanish Riding School... and have their uses in battle situations. What an absolutely stunning pair - Gorgeous horse,& splendid King's Guard! ❤
I worked for the Queen in the home office. These guys do an amazing job, people need to respect that the guard and horse are working for the crown and should respect both the guard and horse. Ask the guard is it ok to touch the horse NOT the reins and also thank the horse out of respect too
I have all the respect in the world for these guards. They are dealing with ignorance and luckily for those ignorant tourists, the guards are able to remain calm and seated since that horse is a continuation of the rider. With so many people crammed into a small area it amazes me that the tourists literally have no clue how much danger they put themselves in while literally standing in front of a rearing horse. Ears pinned back and all, yet dumb and dumber just stand there looking and filming. The guards know first hand how hard it can be to maintain a jumpy horse and it needs to be done calmly or else chaos will ensue. With innocent bystanders everywhere it’s a testament to how much training these guards go through especially when it’s a bystander that’s pissing off you’re horse! I don’t have that type of self control towards anyone who does something that could directly impact the safety of everyone around you so yes, I applaud all of them for a job well done and although it might seem like no one cares, I assure you that there are plenty of people just like myself who can really appreciate what they go through on a daily basis and we thank you!🥰🥰🥰

These Guards have a thankless job, standing there having to cope with endless crowds, then there’s that expert trying to tell a trained Guard how to handle his Horse…The King should make big changes here.
Respect to the horse and guard for putting up with these disrespectful tourists great horsemanship for the control of the horse hope he is ok aswell as the guard
The horses and riders should have a barrier to protect them from the many people hanging around, some of the standing guards are behind a chain. We wouldn't like it if people came and touched us or our animals at work?
Its a good idea... But if the horse bolts or a guard loses control, a chain or low fence could injure the horse if he runs into it or tries to jump over. Better manual crowd control is best imho.
That would be more Unsafe & Dangerous,, also part of the Horses duties is to Protect their Guardsman & The Royals but also to Protect the Public part of which the Horses need to be trained, exposed & establish a Basic awareness & Sensory exposure to ordinary public folk as well as the Horse & Guardsman connecting with each other when they sense problems..

The horses probably don't like standing on their droppings in a smelly confined space.
The horse was his and quite the majestic animal. My father had trained him with gentle training techniques that he taught me and my siblings. My father typically never went to the doctor or dentist. He used a hunk oh hog fat to press against his cheek flap and to my amazement in later years it healed beautifully. Horses can be very sensitive at times.
And Bless the Guardsman who came and soothed this massive beauty.

Rider did a beautiful job of calming the clearly upset horse. Steady, firm but gentle corrections while maintaining a calm energy himself.
