  • I recently decided to fix by the faulty thermostat on the Passat. In the back of my mind, I thought it could fix the 2 step but I figured the chances of it fixing it were very slim. Much to my surprise, when I tent to test it, the 2 step actually worked, and so did the no lift shift.

    Nice, I'm glad you have it figured out. I believe I may have a thermostat problem in my B5 also. Can't get it up to operating temp in winter. Obd11 says about 145°F. Doesn't get much above that unless it more than 50°F outside. The car does run ok and have adequate heat. My questions is, does it feel like it has more power when reaching operating temp at 190°F compared to before?? And did you have any issues bleeding the air out of the system, or was it a pretty easy fix?

    And btw, I'm gonna try a 5 bar fpr against my tuners advice. He's not a very helpful tuner. I sent him a 3 paragraph email and he emailed me a single word "no".lol I'm running my stock aeb injectors at their limit. They are 210cc at 3 bar. Aeb runs a 4 bar factory so that makes them 242cc. A 5 bar would put them about 270cc. My plan is if my wot a/f ratio drops below 11.7 I'm going to add an e85 blend. Sounds like a sketchy plan. But it's my plan. I'm running 20 psi spikes with my new n75j now.

      @@sups1264 it's called reflect tuning.guys name is Ian. It's flashed on a 557p ecu not chipped. The tune is listed as 18psi, +50 hp. He just recently released a tune you can see on his website that advertises 20-22 psi, +60hp. I'm not sure how he achieves those boost levels with the smallest injectors that ever came in a U.S. 1.8t. Maybe he Yanks a bunch of timing so he can run leaner and not detonate?? Not sure. But I will say it's a very aggressive tune. I have an APR stage 1 also chipped ECU in my dresser drawer because I'm not using it because his tune is considerably more aggressive. I'm not sure how well you know your 1.8t's. But unfortunately my 1999 557p aeb ecu cannot support a 2step. Only a 7200 rpm no lift shift. So I would have to wire in a WOT box. Contemplating doing that. I'm not so sure how helpful it would be. because as you know these front-wheel drive passats like to burn rubber already from a dig.

      @@sups1264 the 5 bar fpr is in. Starts up and idles smooth I haven't boosted it yet. I will in an hour when I go pick up my daughter from school. I really wish I had a fuel pressure gauge I'm going to get one from ECS very soon. But until then I'm just going to keep an eye on the short and long-term fuel trims with obd eleven.

      @@sups1264 that was a lot of talking for nothing. Complete fail. Long-term fuel trim was adding 28% fuel, and check engine light came on for bank 1 sensor 2 oxygen sensor which has a 90-degree spacer. Code was sensor out of range. So it was extremely lean. So I guess I got a bad part. 60 bucks from Spain down the tubes. I guess that's what I get for not forking over a hundred and fifty for the blueprinted one from 034.

    Curious, why would fixing your thermostat fix your 2step? My t-stat is broken too and my 2step doesn't work either (unknown tune from previous owner).

    • @sups1264
      @sups1264  4 года назад +1

      So most 2 steps have a safety built in that only allows it to activate when the car is FULLY up to operating temperature. When my thermostat was broken the car would never actually get up to operating temperature and therefore wouldn't allow the 2 step to activate. Hopefully you have as much luck as I did with the thermostat!
