Some fwd 02q’s can be converted to awd by using the diff off an awd car or installing an awd lsd. Some trans already have the bolt holes for the bevel box. Just need the proper seal and bevel box.
I loved this series of videos. I have changed my mind about swapping haldex into my GTI. WOO that SWAP was tricky, and I’ve done a few auto to manual swaps in older fox mustangs. But this swap would take forever!
Would the Haldex clutch pack not cause slipping since it's before the diff and also a clutch based system? I've seen Kyle from boosted bois weld a similar style clutch based system that's on CRV's for that reason and is why I ask.
Well actually on ABS System when bleeding you have to start at the closest to the mastercylinder. That's because you want all the gunk that collects in the reservoir and in the Abs block on the fastest way out and not through alle the long hoses to the valve that is the most away. Pls correct me if I'm wrong :) nice car btw
Great stuff guys, keep on going. Will the clutch plates and haldex oil pump sustained pressures from diff lock, and why you didnt weld clutch platws to the diff? Will rear diff from a4 quattro in some crazy way fit to your golf?
Hi, you guys have done a great job and I admire you, I'm watching you from Russia through a translator. I own a vw Jetta 5 1.6 BSE DSG 7 and my dream is to do a swap on vr6 3.6 and make all-wheel drive. Good luck to you, you are well done.
I feel like my comment from yesterday has some foreshadowing in today’s episode “Passat haldex”, I’ll find out more after watching. Edit: whoop there it is! Dang at least you all figured it out, it stinks because I did the same on my MK6 Jetta.
I also have a CC with a 2.0tsi, bought it with 150k km’s. Timing chain jumped (chain tensioner failed) at 162k km’s (around 100k miles). I was lucky that it jumped with starting the engine, so it saved the engine. Probably drove around with the problem for a while before it happened. So, if you get a check engine light, diagnose it immediately and maybe you can save your engine. Most common engines are the 3.6 fsi and the 2.0 tsi with this problem.
Love the videos guys. Been wanting to convert my MK5 to AWD for a while now to help with my traction issue haha. This series just proves it's totally do-able! I've had a really hard time tracking down an AWD manual transmission but I found some DSG's. I'm curious, would it be possible to swap the AWD DSG front diff into my 6MT so I can attach a bevel box to the other end? If I explained that so it makes sense... Thanks!
Just wondering why you didn't replace the Haldex with something solid whilst you had the diff unit in pieces for welding? Seems like it would remove a point of potential failure, plus save the cost of the aftermarket 4wd controller.
PS no hate here btw im discouraged for you guys, hope the rest goes well, also i noticed that you didnt take you the haldex clutch pack to weld it in the passat diff, i think youre gonna need to do that to force the haldex to stay engaged, unless youre gonna use a controller to keep it engaged
When you said VW uses same bell housing bolt pattern for all 4cyl engiens, do that counts for tdi's as well?. Bdw awesome project ;) i really like enjoy watching it.
I'm currently in the process of trying to plan doing a 4wd conversion on a skoda fabia vrs mk1, same platform as a 2005 vw polo in america, do you know if the gearbox that you used and the 4wd bolt on transfer case is the same as a 02m 4wd gearbox. Many thanks.
I might have missed something as I skipped through the peach tree portion of the video, but how are you modifying the Haldex to be fully locked? Will the old gen 1 longer bolt mod work on this, or are you relying on the controller to handle it?
Didn't chatch it - Did you weld up or fix the haldex clutch too? If not, only parttime powertrain? PS, slide hammer for pulling the driveshaft stubs is a lot easier.... ;)
Hey guys, i love this build! I’m super interested in starting my own project car. I was wondering if you guys ever went to school for auto tech? Or is this just experience from over the years. I’m currently in school for machining, but i would love to attend an auto program later in life
Guys, you should fit bigger brakes to this Golf. These tiny stock calipers look ridiculous. Use a VW Touareg calipers and disks from ML Benz or Volvo, its a bolt on upgrade.

would this possibly work on 1gen haldex mk4 golf also ? Or is it diferent haldex gen
Amazing work and 100/10 for effort, also very nice content and humour great!!!!
Found this late sorry, got rid of my 15 R due to blowing out my clutch ankle
Did you weld the haldex clutch to become 50/50 permannent like torsen?
Watching this has cured my desire to make my Passat wagon RWD.... Thanks!
Haha same😂
You guys deserve more attention. The amount of work put into these videos is amazing.
This reinforces what I'm learning in school, also teaches me a few things. Thanks for sharing
The fact that the differentials are different, is poetic. It also reminds me of why I like my Subaru.
Pro tip: if you round off a inner hex drain bolt, you can usually hammer in a torx bit.
Man I wish my wreck yards had newer vw like that yard .look at all the parts 😭
Dang, glad YT recommended this. Actual inspiration to sit on my A$$ and work on my mk3 rwd hybrid idea...
My favorite build series. I can’t wait to watch this thing, explode or whatever it does.
This series is amazing. The chemistry and comedy between everyone is magic. Please MOARRRR.
Some fwd 02q’s can be converted to awd by using the diff off an awd car or installing an awd lsd. Some trans already have the bolt holes for the bevel box. Just need the proper seal and bevel box.
21:32 Everybody sharts. And if you've never sharted just know the day will soon be upon you.
You guys make buying and driving foreigns fun. I thought the Vw Tiguan was a mythical vehicle. Never see them running.
I love all the movie references. I know I’d get along with these dudes really well.
I loved this series of videos. I have changed my mind about swapping haldex into my GTI. WOO that SWAP was tricky, and I’ve done a few auto to manual swaps in older fox mustangs. But this swap would take forever!
You guys are such PROs!!!!! I love this series!!! Miss the Alltrack vids...
“And then you gotta wiggle it- like this. Side to side.” Exactly what its like putting a transmission back on 😂
I´m enjoying this series so much! keep it up!
This is a very entertaining series.
The 'junkyard sharting' had me dying.
Thanks for sharing your struggles. I can definitely relate!
Allot of work, thanks for the learning process! 👊💪
So cool , what an awesome project attempt
Another great episode gentlemen.
Sounds to me you will have to make a rwd w8 passat. You already have the diff now 😜
Hahaha! Finding out that Passat and Golf are different platforms...
The hard way 😃
That air filter/turbo must have some serious heat soak 😳
Can’t wait to see the ending
How nice that you were able to make a few minutes of video without the fart noise!
The right headline would be. Welding our Magna Diff for RWD pt3. Haldex is only the clutch and Magna make the rear axle.
I eventually would love to turn my 08 fsi git in to awd so this is a great vid to get rough idea thanks guy always love the vids
This motivates me to rwd my passat
Had a peach tree growing up...i hate the smell of peaches now.
It's Haldex School day yaa ya
Sweet GTI shirt from Blipshift. I have the same one.
ive been dreaming of gutting a mk1 tt and doing this... and putting the parts in my gti. maybe some day
Would the Haldex clutch pack not cause slipping since it's before the diff and also a clutch based system? I've seen Kyle from boosted bois weld a similar style clutch based system that's on CRV's for that reason and is why I ask.
Dope as hell!
Keep it up boyz!
Dream to have jynkyards like those...

Buy an old S3 take front shafts out weld diff away u go ..ha ha . amazing project guys Mk5 will be a mental drift car good chassis .well done 👍👍👍👍
Have you any info on the “diff lock” available on haldex transporters or is it not actually a diff lock?
Great stuff guys, keep on going. Will the clutch plates and haldex oil pump sustained pressures from diff lock, and why you didnt weld clutch platws to the diff? Will rear diff from a4 quattro in some crazy way fit to your golf?

7:35 weld the clutch pack and the drive shaft
I gave myself permanent tendonitis and shoulder injuries doing gearboxes on axle stands... doesn't look much better with the lift :P
Enjoying this new series alot, was wondering what ever happened to this bt mk5. Hope it works out 🤘🏻
I feel like my comment from yesterday has some foreshadowing in today’s episode “Passat haldex”, I’ll find out more after watching.
Edit: whoop there it is! Dang at least you all figured it out, it stinks because I did the same on my MK6 Jetta.
Informative!
you could just pull the front diff from the r32 or a golf R and put the GTI ring gear on it. Presto! (ask me how I know lol)
Imagine not wanting millions of peaches, peaches for free.
Peaches come from a can, they are put there by a man
Actually bleeding brakes on vw you start with closest to the master! Good video though! Actually its great 👍
How did you fix the problem with the fuel pump? I have the exact same problem with a mk5 GTI haldex swap with TTRS pump..
8:32 wait what ? that was that weld ? how long did it last ? :D
Could you somehow weld the Haldex clutch or will it just take the 500hp without problems?
i want to hear more about this peach tree dilemma
What about the 2.0tdi 4motion gearbox an running gear?
Love the content! I only have one question, why haldex, why not Torsen? All of your predictions sorround the integrity of a Haldex.
Youre the guy from Hangover movies
Those 6 speed are heavy 😂😂😂
Couldn’t use a 8p s3 gearbox? That’s what is used in the uk for awd swaps
We didn’t get that car but yes would work.
Hearing you say that there’s so many ccs in there because they jump timing really scares the fuck outta me. Mines a 2012 and I just hit 110k

You guys are hilarious lol
Day 3 of commenting until y'all are done, Great episode!
Is one of your rear springs upside down?
Love the videos guys. Been wanting to convert my MK5 to AWD for a while now to help with my traction issue haha. This series just proves it's totally do-able! Thanks!
20:55 "Why are there so many CC's?" "Because they jump timing." Now I'm just wondering, was it the chain tensioner?
What’s up with the coil springs at 11:00
Look at 9:10 too haha, i don't know why are they installed like that
Uga Duga... 👍
Just wondering why you didn't replace the Haldex with something solid whilst you had the diff unit in pieces for welding? Seems like it would remove a point of potential failure, plus save the cost of the aftermarket 4wd controller.
Still looking for the answer:why would taking off my oil filler cap send my engine while running, into a erratic surge? Gen3 1.8t ea888
I knew about the different bolt patterns of the VR6 and 4cyl. Does the 07k have its own?
im actually amazed how easily this went for me compared to you guys lol
i also cant believe you guys didnt notice how huge the passat diff was compared to the one off the r32
at this point you guys shoudve built a drift passat....
Were is the video
@@daniel27560 im not a RUclipsr lol
I have the Front right inner cv spacer that you WILL NEED to make it 4wd.
When you said VW uses same bell housing bolt pattern for all 4cyl engiens, do that counts for tdi's as well?. Bdw awesome project ;) i really like enjoy watching it.
Yes
I have a feeling the diff will be the weakest link. 🙃🤞
I wonder if the r32 haldex system would fit my gli
I might have missed something as I skipped through the peach tree portion of the video, but how are you modifying the Haldex to be fully locked? Will the old gen 1 longer bolt mod work on this, or are you relying on the controller to handle it?
I believe in part one they said they’re using the controller
@@leakyshart9943 thanks, I skipped through that one too.
Find it strange to weld the spiders and leave the multi-plate able to slip.
🔥🔥
Why didn't you guys use the limited slip y'all had already?
Didn't chatch it - Did you weld up or fix the haldex clutch too? If not, only parttime powertrain? PS, slide hammer for pulling the driveshaft stubs is a lot easier.... ;)
lol, you bleep ghe "sh*t" but not the "shart" that's quite funny :) gr8 clntent
A shart situation.
Hey guys, i love this build! I’m super interested in starting my own project car. I was wondering if you guys ever went to school for auto tech? Or is this just experience from over the years. I’m currently in school for machining, but i would love to attend an auto program later in life
I just now realized you guys have a whole shop, so i assume it was not from just over the years
So you can use the haldex from a passat??? What gen passat
Was welding the dif really necessary? We wanted to know how a rear wheel drive gti works! And know we can't!
Guys, you should fit bigger brakes to this Golf. These tiny stock calipers look ridiculous. Use a VW Touareg calipers and disks from ML Benz or Volvo, its a bolt on upgrade.
Did I see it correctly: you welded the RWD Differential?
Haldex controller was not an option?
I need to perform some welding on my car with my everlast. Anything I need to do to protect the car's electronics?
Just take the battery out.
Will this work for a 2000 S3?
Is welding the diff necessary, or is this for teh doriftu?
What wheels are on the golf?
Didn't know Ed Sheeran works on cars
So the TT gearbox works with the MK5 clutch?
Yes
is audi mk1 tt rear subframe is same as golf r32 ?
I got a question, how much would guys charge for a manual transmission swap for 2008 R32.
I live in Mooresville what junkyard is this?
