Full lyrics for everyone: I see a pain behind your eyes, I know you feel it everyday. It’s like a light that slowly dies, but it’s better not to say such things out loud. Just close your eyes and bite your tongue for now. Don’t let them see you fall. Stay strong, hold on, you’ve got to keep it together now. Just dry your eyes, ‘cause boys don’t cry. No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry. No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry. You feel an emptiness inside, how it sinks into your soul. But it’s nothing you can’t hide; just forget about the hole beneath your skin- That’s swallowing the best of you within. Don’t let them see you fall. Stay strong, hold on, you’ve got to keep it together now. Just dry your eyes, ‘cause boys don’t cry. No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry. No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry. Keep it all inside ‘Cause boys don't cry Are those tears behind your eyes? Nuh uh, no, boys don't cry Keep it all inside this time Nuh uh, no, boys don't cry Not until the faithful day you die ‘cause boys don't cry ‘cause boys don't cry Stay strong, hold on, you’ve got to keep it together now. 1. Toxic Masculinity isn't really a thing it's a myth largely portrayed by activist, and academics. 2. It is very clearly about mental health. Men struggle with achieving help with mental health, mainly, because men in their biological social dynamic hold cards close to them, they don't like opening up. It is always said women are very open inherently, but men take awhile they are like a cat, you gotta earn it. 3. However that is largely exaggerated men do cry and can be emotional what research needs to be done better is how men express emotion, it may not be with tears(biologically we have larger tear ducts than women do). I personally suffer from depression, and I don't cry with it I get frustrated, because I don't want to be that way. Men express sadness through anger a lot more than tears.
I've been listening on repeat since I found it. I'm a very emotional guy, but I was raised to suck it up and be there for others. I've always been the one everyone goes to for help, so strength was my nature
Do you ever just hear your favorite song and feel safe but at the same time you want to cry because it’s so beautiful? That’s what this song does to me.
This song was in my recommended so I listened to it. The lead singer reminded me of something but I wasn't able to tell what it was until I checked other songs of them and I realised that 3 years ago I used to listen to them. I was in the middle of my pop punk phase and I was subscribed to Patty's channel. I used to love his covers and when he stopped uploading videos because As It Is signed Fearless I checked them out. I liked them but then my pop punk phase went to end and I started listening other types of music...anyway I can't believe that i've totally forgot about them in these 3 years😅 (also they look so different how the hell could I recognize Patty😂). Now that I listen literally everything (including pop punk) I found them again and after I've listened to this album I want to say that their new sound is amazing. I don't like so much their old songs, but I really appreciate their changing: bands usually goes more pop but this went more "emo"... I love it
I enjoy music from bands that give their bass guitar more sound over the drums and other guitars. Deep bass chords and higher vocals in my opinion give more feeling in a song.
This is the first song I've ever heard from As It Is and holy.. I LOVE IT. The message is accurately portrayed and I like that they spread such an important message, it really needs to be done. And the song in generally is so catchy and ugh, it's just perfect. Not screamo or something, like the old songs of 2000-sth, the songs I really like. Glad I found you :) (Sorry for any grammar mistakes, English isn't my first language)
@@dominikmichalek9391 I think the message is more about the stigma of society about boys/men crying and doing stuff only girls would do in their opinion. Society tells boys to "man up", to hold their feelings in etc which can lead to depression, breakdowns, anxiety and mental illness in general. And seriously, even if it was about gays, what would be bad about it? Gays are normal people
@@dominikmichalek9391 Well, to me it definitely sounds like that. Maybe I'm wrong though, English is only my second language. Is Patty gay? Uhm.. one of the most creative ways to put a real life problem into art. The video. The song. Everything was put together so well this is honestly one of my favourite music videos out of the latest ones.
I used to watch all of Pattys covers back several years ago, I went back onto his youtube page today and this band showed up, I am extremly pleased with this find
To the idiots saying "this song isnt about you" to people saying they relate-stfu. Music is subjective and about artistic expression. Anyone who relates is allowed to do so.
Confession: im a transgender boy and whenever I cry I hate myself so much because I grew up with BOYS DON'T CRY and my little brother reminds me of it all too often and it really hurts when my mind is my enemy
This album is gonna be sick as hell! I have to say though, I am a little worried that the visual aesthetic As It Is chose is going to only breed incredibly shallow discussions and interpretations of The Great Depression. The connections people are making to My Chemical Romance’s Three Cheers and Black Parade are incredibly unfair and seem to imply that all As It Is are saying is “hey, remember the MTV emo days?” Not to mention a clear lack of understanding of those two album’s concepts (Three Cheers being a mix of gothic literature, comic references, all wrapped up in a Faustian Bargain story with echoes of an inverted monomyth, or Black Parade being a grimdark Everyman and A Christmas Carol hybrid with some Divine Comedy for good measure). There’s a lot more going on in this album, than just trying to emulate and cash in on successful artists from the past. There’s a narrative, there’s a story, much like MCR’s concept records but very different at the same time because you are NOT listening to MCR. You’re listening to As It Is. They don’t want to tread the same territory, and I for one, would like to give them credit for harkoning back to an older era of music BUT from an approach of retrospect, of introspection and review and reapplying it to this decade’s continued problem with men’s self-expression & mental health stigma. Comparisons are of course alright but don’t let something as simple as a hairstyle and eyeliner form your absolute write off and scorn or even your undying support. Use your minds, not just your eyes. Already I’ve noticed a lot of people being so overly obsessed with Patty’s hair, both for and against. For one thing, a musician’s hairstyle and choice of cosmetics doesn’t make something “emo,” the sound of the music does (See Saves The Day, Jimmy Eat World, Mineral, or Thursday as examples of bands who don’t have to look like they work at Hot Topic but still made some hella emo music in their day). That being said, the influences of UK post-hardcore and pop punk music (which in case you weren’t sure, have very close ties to emo’s lengthy and confusing history), especially Funeral For A Friend, having Aaron Gillespie from Underoath and The Almost on a track, not to mention the inclusion of screamed/unclean vocals gives it the post-hardcore/emo lean towards it, which is spectacular to see even years after that sort of sound’s heyday. That association is considerably fair, but acting like As It Is’s only purpose is to “bring emo back” or be an “emo band” is simply short sighted pigeonholing. If you want to interpret it that way, that’s fine, but they deserve credit for a lot more than just being the band that might make scene hair “cool again.” People need to chill about the hair and makeup. It’s hair an makeup. That’s it. On the opposite side of the obsession-fence, people who are going on about how “cringey” they think it is or make “hilarious and original” comments about how As It Is missed the “emo/screamo trend” by a decade. If you’re one of those people, you are obviously not aware that this album and it’s music videos have been lampooning this sort of “cringe culture” and obsession with the status quo. You are LITERALLY the subject of the album. Not only are your douche opinions on “emos” not wanted, they are directly being challenged by this album. Make fun of it all you want, you’re only driving the point home. From what we know so far, there’s a clear emphasis on the stigma surrounding mental health, especially for men and the presence of both toxic masculinity as well as damaging romanticizing of depression as something trendy. This song and The Wounded World have an interesting duality to it and I’m really looking forward to listening to the full album. Yes, there is a clear homage happening here, but there is a deeper commentary and narrative on how we treat boys who act differently, dress differently, or are suffering from serious problems and chose to turn them into objects of scorn or ridicule instead of actually respecting and helping them. I truly hope that when the album is finally released, people actually see that and don’t distract themselves with Patty’s hair in either adoration or scorn, completely missing the point of this entire album’s nuanced concept.
xscreamoprincessx. Beautifully written. As a sufferer of toxic masculinity and depression with a period of medically documented suicidal thoughts in my past, this message is resonating with me. Too many people are quick to judge, and it isn’t right. The music sounds profound and is full of substance since it comes from a real place. I’m looking forward to the album.
You guys are reading too much into it. All this is is a way move records because THEY ARE just trying to be MCR, and they're using morons like you that need to overthink and over analyze/justify corporate strategy as something more. But go on thinking this is anything more than shallow. It's pretty sad.
silentcatalyst Again, like the music if you want. But your over analyzing it. Why are sad pathetic people always so quick to connect to things designed to take money from kids with depression and mentally issues. They're targeting people like you, not trying to relate. It's called business. Open your eyes.
zac I can over analyze it even more. You don’t have my past, so don’t act like you know me when you don’t even have the slightest clue of who I am outside of RUclips. For the record, I was there when MCR blew up and The Black Parade has more classic rock roots similar to Queen despite the makeup, so that was a whole other thing. I totally see the marketing, as it is a part of surviving in the music industry, yet I think they could do without the makeup. Also, if you haven’t noticed from my guitar pic, I like guitar tap melodies hahaha, so that’s another reason I dig the song. Personally, I think it’s sad and pathetic that you have to target people that you don’t even know and succumb to judging them for opinions, while trying to judge the band and its intentions. I relate to it lyrically and am against the toxic masculinity stigma that comes with being a man, but totally see your point of view minus the harsh name calling. Let’s analyze this more, shall we? I’m game!

Why is everyone saying how “emo is back”? Emo never left. I’ve been emo for years and I know tons of emos who are the same. And there’s been tons of underground emo bands. Emo music just hasn’t been popular for a few years that’s all. BTW IM STILL EMO AND IM NOT GONNA STOP FOR A FEW MORE YEARS!
And when I’m done with emo I’m just gonna be goth!

This band reminds me so much of the early/mid 2000s emo. I miss that era but it’s pretty great to be able to watch a new wave of emo rise up and to be a part of it.
Full lyrics for everyone:
I see a pain behind your eyes,
I know you feel it everyday.
It’s like a light that slowly dies,
but it’s better not to say such things out loud.
Just close your eyes and bite your tongue for now.
Don’t let them see you fall.
Stay strong,
hold on,
you’ve got to keep it together now.
Just dry your eyes,
‘cause boys don’t cry.
No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry.
No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry.
You feel an emptiness inside,
how it sinks into your soul.
But it’s nothing you can’t hide;
just forget about the hole beneath your skin-
That’s swallowing the best of you within.
Don’t let them see you fall.
Stay strong,
hold on,
you’ve got to keep it together now.
Just dry your eyes,
‘cause boys don’t cry.
No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry.
No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry.
Keep it all inside
‘Cause boys don't cry
Are those tears behind your eyes?
Nuh uh, no, boys don't cry
Keep it all inside this time
Nuh uh, no, boys don't cry
Not until the faithful day you die
‘cause boys don't cry
‘cause boys don't cry
Stay strong,
hold on,
you’ve got to keep it together now.
Just dry your eyes,
‘cause boys don’t cry.
No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry.
No, no, ‘cause boys don’t cry.
‘cause boys don’t cry.

I love when bands write songs about mental health. It's a serious condition that targets people of all ages.
GoshDarnBarnOwls your comment and username both give me life tbh
GoshDarnBarnOwls its not about mental health its about toxic masculinity
Kapt Mao the album is called the Great Depression. Its about mental heath

I like the meaning of this song, it says that guys are also humans too, they have feelings.
This, still to this day, is the most heartbreaking music video I’ve ever seen in my life. It doesn’t make me cry, it makes realize why I shouldn’t.

As It Is, beating the Emo Revival to the punch by 3 years, a full 2 years before the Rawring Twenties
Glad I found you :)
(Sorry for any grammar mistakes, English isn't my first language)
Idk how you understand the text, but isn't it kinda gay? I just asking. For me it sounds like gay anthem, but good song xdd
Gays are normal people
@Jasmin I don't mean it that bad, I only wonder if its against stereotypes like that. And second question is: Is Patty gay?
@@dominikmichalek9391 Well, to me it definitely sounds like that. Maybe I'm wrong though, English is only my second language.
Is Patty gay? Uhm.. I don't know, I know this band since yesterday :D Didn't he mention in a video that he had/has a girlfriend?

I’m game!
zac We could also look at how Tom Morello made his career out of pretending to change the world while using catastrophes to promote his music in Rage Against the Machine and Prophets of Rage. 🐸 🍵
