Sleep Token could write a song about a chicken sandwich, and make it absolutely heart-wrenching and compelling. This song is the pinnacle of their discography. It moved my entire being. I am thankful for their existence.

It's about addiction. I'll cook: 👨🏻🍳 Eden represents innocence in two ways. One: when he had self control, and control over his life, before the addiction(s). Two: the innocence of trying these vices for the first time. Every relapse is like a fragmented memory of that first time. The sad reality of the feeling of euphoria reducing at the same rate your life is consumed and deteriorated with each dose/experience. The first verse seems to describe such innocent first encounters: a more direct read suggests drugs, but it could be fame, sex or even financial success. It uses words like dream, drifting, fog, spaces, waters, oceans, weightlessness... even the word phosphorescence reminds me of psychedelics. It ends that verse with "But no one told me not to breathe" perhaps indicating he felt like he was not aware of the negative consequences to indulging in these activities and feels like he was deceived to a degree. Like he should have dipped a toe and been more careful, but the enjoyment of crystal waters and perfect oceans blinded him to this reality. "and now the weightlessness recedes" seems like a reference to a come down, especially compared to the previous line "no one told me not to breathe", indicating some regret. 🍲 Then Chorus: "my my those eyes...." first describes the allure of drugs, partying, the fast life. He flies to that which destroys him strictly because of its undeniable appeal. He's clean right now (off drugs, or dating apps, w/e) but it's killing him and he feels himself giving in... He knows this is wrong but he's restless sober. Maybe the withdrawals are too much. "grow back your sharpest teeth you know my desire." He feels like he can't escape his desire to relapse so he plans to dive in hard... again. Then Refrain: Notice here he uses future tense "I will travel". I read this as him implying he'll do anything to fix his situation.. at this point he is broken, but hopeful. 🥘 The rapped bit has some fun wordplay but seems like a blunt metaphor for the Sunday scaries. He's hungover. He's now paranoid that the people around him don't care about him. "mirror talk, fake love, but I'll take a pound of your flesh before you take a piece of my paystub" In this paranoid hungover state he sees people attempting to support him as a threat. In his view they are trying to ride his coat tails and stay close to him for their own financial benefit. Maybe because they tour a lot the people he spends his time with are mostly business acquaintances that he perceives as fake friends, only interested in supporting him because they want a piece of his success. A nasty selfish state of being... often associated with withdrawal and hangovers. After that shitty day why not just relapse for some comfort, he needs it you see. Chorus. The piano interlude section with the clean vocals doesn't fit my template as obviously or straightforward as the rest, but, I'll keep the sauté going: 🫕 What he lost was essentially himself. He feels like his success and these addictions have fundamentally changed who he is. "and no amount of love will keep it around if we don't chose it" despite his popularity and the love he's shone by fans etc. he feel like he was consumed by his lifestyle. In his view he chose to be this person he thought he needed to be to "make it" and that led him down this dark path... had he chosen to stay true to himself and not compromise his "innocence", maybe he'd be less popular, but he'd still be him. The next line expresses the feeling of not understanding how this has happened to him and the undirected rage bubbling up to the surface. He's grasping for something to blame. Then with the last two lines of this section "no amount of self-sought fury will bring back the glory of innocence" he realizes his feelings are utterly useless. Whether his anger is justified or not, nothing can repair the damage that has been done. . . So why not just relapse right back into the fire. Chorus. Last refrain "I have traveled far beyond the path of reason, take me back to Eden, take me back to Eden." Past tense... Hope lost. He's gone as far as he can conceive of to return to himself and his innocence but is now giving up. Eden now, rather than actual innocence, represents chasing the dragon only. He now succumbs to pursuing what fading solace his addictions can provide. A bitter, bitter end. 🍾🥂 Sweet dreams! If anyone read this, I am impressed and flattered.
It's double edged, you can stop choosing a bad/toxic/abusive relationship and still love the person who hurt you. Love isn't enough, it can't be. Especially if it only flows in one direction (like worship).
The amount of references in this song is quite honestly incredible. Bits from all the way through the albums. They're not completly shoved down your throat either. Breathtaking.

He also says something about the Bough breaking (a reference to When the Bough breaks) there's also musical references through the whole album. The love you want in Euclid, the melody on the end of this when he references Chokehold is a slowed down version of the melody in The Offering etc.

The Apparition and Rain are unreal tracks. And this one just shows why it's the title track. The little surprise at the end of the album caught me off guard and it was so pleasant. Overall, album of the year nominee for me. Beautiful album all around.

Think of the context of the rest of the song. The lyric is referring something bigger and more metaphoric. Everything in our life is temporary, nothing sticks around for long, so if you love something, or someone, spouse, parents, friends, pets, even a specific time in your life. This band has done something in my soul that I just can’t explain. It’s like every lyric is a thought I’ve always had that I didn’t know how to put into words. This is so much deeper than just music.
“No amount of self-sought fury will bring back the glory of innocence” Earlier, I stumbled upon old pictures I hadn’t seen in a long time. They brought memories of all kind. Feels like a million past lives sought through. I see these captured glimpses and I remember how I felt at those exact moments. I see myself through a loop from everything in between who I am, what I’ve been through, where I’ve been and where I am now. Seeing these exact moments right before storms, those glorious moments of innocence and the loaded dreams that left me empty. And how unaware I was of what was going to hit, and everything that was lost underneath. That line flashed through my mind in those instants and hit like a hurricane. How diluted the concept of time gets. You think it doesn’t have as much of an impact and there you are years later, waking up far below the surface unaware you’ve been drowning all along. It feels like I’ve recently woken up. It’s a painful but cathartic eye opening and I can only seek to weaponize it to build my strength. Thank you for sharing, the way you're describing the song and its effects on you has me connecting similarly. It truly walks the fine line of gentle, calm, bitter, and sweet. This concept is what it's all about, we lose our innocence but we grow and evolve in exchange. Also living in the moment and really appreciating what you have is also an important concept here.

I believe it’s George Lever. He does clips on URM Academy vids here on RUclips where he talks about working with ST, respecting their anonymity, etc. He also has some playing credits on some of the songs, he played bass on Alkaline.
@@ER04040 I liked Lever’s mixes, they were dense yet had separation, especially the de-tuned guitars, they were really crushing. And the vocal production was so clear and articulate.
So, I’ve finally had the pleasure to sit with and absorb the third release in Sleep Token’s trilogy of albums, “Take Me Back To Eden.” There are a lot of feelings, and a lot of layers with this album. But I don’t want to simply rehash what dozens of other reviewers out there are talking about. Not that those points are irrelevant, rather, I’d like to speak to what they’re NOT speaking to. Sleep Token writes love songs. Point blank, period. At the end of the day, that’s what these songs are. So if there isn’t a hopeless romantic inside of you, these songs might not speak to you and you can honestly find yourself bored. I’m not here to dispute that. These songs run the gamut from break-up songs, to sexy-time songs, and EVERYTHING in between. And this band will use any method they choose to communicate these messages - be that low tuned, distorted guitars and double bass - or dark synth-pop and trap. Sleep Token does not have time for anyone to “figure them out”, or decide what box/genre they fit in. This album is everything I didn’t know I needed in music. Some of the tracks at first listen were a little out of my comfort zone, but once I got over the fact that they use a method of music that I’m not normally used to - I was able to hear the song for what it was…just great, relatable music that speaks to the human heart and all the ways in which we’ve experienced love, for better or worse. Genre-bending music on this level has been attempted, but never so well done. Take Me Back To Eden cuts through to a part of me that I’m not sure if it was dormant, or didn’t exist in the first place. But now it’s there, and I’m happy to have it as a part of my journey in this life. Less a collection of songs and more an experience, TMBTE is an instant classic that will grow deeper roots with every playthrough.
There is a hoodie on their website that has 12 different models that all say the names of the songs next to them (its in their coded language seen on the album cover.) and it has all the current ones we've seen so far, so They at least have the artwork for every single "Character"
I agree. However, Ascensionism pissed me off. You start off a song with this incredibly beautiful ballad. Here I am like, “Oh my God could this be better than ‘Atlantic?’” Then the song switches up to R&B and I’m like “What the fuuuuck?!?!” I felt like doing a Shawshank redemption style dramatic effect while down on my knees, arms out screaming “Nooooooooooo!”

As a heavy, deathcore metal listener, I find really stupid to think that you need to hate them just BC they're edging into pop, with metal. They're pretty much a mood. I didn't like the whole album myself but I think the work to compose and arrange the album was flawless, creative and changing.. very much appreciated. Really looking forward to hear more from them.

🌟I’m 70ish, NEVER into ‘metal’ or ‘rap’ type music, so today was my 1st time hearing of ST and 👍 song with the thought provoking 💭 lyrics. IDK why they haven’t shown up on my YT channel before now but very grateful 🙏 and glad they did!! IF this didn’t include the ‘metal’ sounding parts that, imo, it does, I would have liked it even more, although as it is I still think it’s a good combo - enough to listen to more of Sleep Token.

I can't quite explain what this song does to me. It's like a thousand needles in my eyes, while it makes me tear up in relief. The lion roar at 1:42 and the whale sound at 1:59 enhance the atmosphere so much! AOTY for me by a long shot! TMBTE has it all: raw emotion, atmosphere, perfect transitions, absolutely devastating lyrics, really heavy moments contrasting with the ethereal softer ones, and genre-bending. The cycle looping is just the cherry on top, grateful for all the callbacks

I’m new to sleep token and I’ll say, just like every new fan I’m sure; i am in complete awe. For so long i had a “itch” that hasn’t been scratched with a bands and music today ,and Sleep token hasn’t just itched it but taken it to new heights. Amazing. Worship.
My daughter just recently introduced Sleep Token to me. I find myself at a complete loss of words to describe the incredible journey filled with every emotion possible. This whole album is pure Perfection.
This song to me represents grieving the relationship with my daughters mother. We were together for roughly five years on and off. I learned that sometimes you can do everything in your power to make yourself a better person, paying more attention to details, actively listening, being compassionate, setting goals, trying to lead through the god of your understanding. Sometimes it has nothing to do with you. Sometimes the other person is just emotionally unavailable. Sometimes no matter how much you sacrifice and love for someone you felt one time to be your soulmate, no matter all of this. Love doesn't stay if you don't choose to keep it. A relationship takes commitment, communication, self respect and mutual respect and when the other person falls short with paranoia or insecurity from trauma you be there to lift them up without hurting yourself or becoming codependent. Its a very delicate dance. The dance of love is so rewarding because it mimics the love of our individual creator acting as an aura through us into someone else and then reciprocated. This is the hardest thing i ever have gone through but nothing in life worth having is easy. Dont ever let someone else dictate your emotions, dont ever let someone else minimize or invalidate how you feel. If they love you and if they are true, they willl pick you up when you need it. If someone truly loves you, they will make time to spend with you. They will text you and say things like "just thinking about you" sometimes first thing in the morning snd at the end of the day. If these things dont exist look at their actions. Sometimes peoples actions will compensate for a lack of something else. But when the person you love isnt twlking to you, isnt making time to spend with you unless it benefis them, they have taken you for granted especially if youve been there before. There is someone out there who will be on your level, thats why we all go through these experiences. Kind of like a bunch of seaweed thrashing around in the ocean until eventually the current evens out and we intertwine with another. Life is part of death and death part of life. Enjoy everyday like its your last and if you are fortunate enough to have a child with someone, please do everything in your power to keep thst relationship. My grandparents were married for 55 years. My parents split when i was born and if we as a generation dont break these cycles, we will ruin the lives of each ur future childrens children. Take the extra 5 minutes out of your 24 hour day to call your girlfriend and tell her you love her. Do not go to bed in an argument. Forgive eachother and move forward, because resentment will end up killing you. Pain is inevitable, suffering is a choice.
Been here since 'Jaws'. For lot of us Sleep Token has pulled us through a deeply personal and incredibly artistic journey. It almost seems like these past years of their music has built up to this moment. They really blew up with this new music. I couldn't be happier for the band and anyone who comes across this masterfully crafted work. Worship

This has been my experience. I found them about two weeks ago, and have no control over the rate at which I am compelled to consume everything ST. It has been so long since music has touched my soul in this way. Like so many others, I struggle to find words to adequately convey the emotional response and jaw-dropping awe at their talent that I have. It's all a very intense experience, and I don't know what part of me needs to hear them constantly. Working through it all, I know, will bring the utmost healing.

my dog passed the day before this was released and i literally listened to this album ALL DAY yesterday and it’s really helped me feel so much better. sleep token is so good at what they do. the way the can mix several different genres and make it sound so good is incredible. it’s not easy to do. this is easily one of the best tracks on the album for me.

Eden represents innocence in two ways. One: when he had self control, and control over his life, before the addiction(s). Two: the innocence of trying these vices for the first time. Every relapse is like a fragmented memory of that first time. The sad reality of the feeling of euphoria reducing at the same rate your life is consumed and deteriorated with each dose/experience.
The first verse seems to describe such innocent first encounters: a more direct read suggests drugs, but it could be fame, sex or even financial success. It uses words like dream, drifting, fog, spaces, waters, oceans, weightlessness... even the word phosphorescence reminds me of psychedelics. It ends that verse with "But no one told me not to breathe" perhaps indicating he felt like he was not aware of the negative consequences to indulging in these activities and feels like he was deceived to a degree. Like he should have dipped a toe and been more careful, but the enjoyment of crystal waters and perfect oceans blinded him to this reality. "and now the weightlessness recedes" seems like a reference to a come down, especially compared to the previous line "no one told me not to breathe", indicating some regret.

Then Chorus: "my my those eyes...." first describes the allure of drugs, partying, the fast life. He flies to that which destroys him strictly because of its undeniable appeal. He's clean right now (off drugs, or dating apps, w/e) but it's killing him and he feels himself giving in... He knows this is wrong but he's restless sober. Maybe the withdrawals are too much. "grow back your sharpest teeth you know my desire." He feels like he can't escape his desire to relapse so he plans to dive in hard... again.
Then Refrain: Notice here he uses future tense "I will travel". I read this as him implying he'll do anything to fix his situation.. at this point he is broken, but hopeful.

The rapped bit has some fun wordplay but seems like a blunt metaphor for the Sunday scaries. He's hungover. He's now paranoid that the people around him don't care about him. "mirror talk, fake love, but I'll take a pound of your flesh before you take a piece of my paystub" In this paranoid hungover state he sees people attempting to support him as a threat. In his view they are trying to ride his coat tails and stay close to him for their own financial benefit. Maybe because they tour a lot the people he spends his time with are mostly business acquaintances that he perceives as fake friends, only interested in supporting him because they want a piece of his success. A nasty selfish state of being... often associated with withdrawal and hangovers.
After that shitty day why not just relapse for some comfort, he needs it you see. Chorus.
The piano interlude section with the clean vocals doesn't fit my template as obviously or straightforward as the rest, but, I'll keep the sauté going: 🫕
What he lost was essentially himself.
He feels like his success and these addictions have fundamentally changed who he is.
"and no amount of love will keep it around if we don't chose it" despite his popularity and the love he's shone by fans etc. he feel like he was consumed by his lifestyle. In his view he chose to be this person he thought he needed to be to "make it" and that led him down this dark path... had he chosen to stay true to himself and not compromise his "innocence", maybe he'd be less popular, but he'd still be him.
The next line expresses the feeling of not understanding how this has happened to him and the undirected rage bubbling up to the surface. He's grasping for something to blame.
Then with the last two lines of this section "no amount of self-sought fury will bring back the glory of innocence" he realizes his feelings are utterly useless. Whether his anger is justified or not, nothing can repair the damage that has been done. . .
So why not just relapse right back into the fire. Chorus.
Last refrain "I have traveled far beyond the path of reason, take me back to Eden, take me back to Eden."
Past tense... Hope lost. He's gone as far as he can conceive of to return to himself and his innocence but is now giving up. Eden now, rather than actual innocence, represents chasing the dragon only. He now succumbs to pursuing what fading solace his addictions can provide. A bitter, bitter end. 🍾🥂

He also says something about the Bough breaking (a reference to When the Bough breaks) there's also musical references through the whole album. The love you want in Euclid, the melody on the end of this when he references Chokehold is a slowed down version of the melody in The Offering etc.

I believe it’s George Lever. He does clips on URM Academy vids here on RUclips where he talks about working with ST, respecting their anonymity, etc. He also has some playing credits on some of the songs, he played bass on Alkaline.

So, I’ve finally had the pleasure to sit with and absorb the third release in Sleep Token’s trilogy of albums, “Take Me Back To Eden.” There are a lot of feelings, and a lot of layers with this album. But I don’t want to simply rehash what dozens of other reviewers out there are talking about. Not that those points are irrelevant, rather, I’d like to speak to what they’re NOT speaking to.
Sleep Token writes love songs. Point blank, period. At the end of the day, that’s what these songs are. So if there isn’t a hopeless romantic inside of you, these songs might not speak to you and you can honestly find yourself bored. I’m not here to dispute that. These songs run the gamut from break-up songs, to sexy-time songs, and EVERYTHING in between. And this band will use any method they choose to communicate these messages - be that low tuned, distorted guitars and double bass - or dark synth-pop and trap. Sleep Token does not have time for anyone to “figure them out”, or decide what box/genre they fit in.
This album is everything I didn’t know I needed in music. Some of the tracks at first listen were a little out of my comfort zone, but once I got over the fact that they use a method of music that I’m not normally used to - I was able to hear the song for what it was…just great, relatable music that speaks to the human heart and all the ways in which we’ve experienced love, for better or worse.
Genre-bending music on this level has been attempted, but never so well done. Take Me Back To Eden cuts through to a part of me that I’m not sure if it was dormant, or didn’t exist in the first place. But now it’s there, and I’m happy to have it as a part of my journey in this life. Less a collection of songs and more an experience, TMBTE is an instant classic that will grow deeper roots with every playthrough.

There is a hoodie on their website that has 12 different models that all say the names of the songs next to them (its in their coded language seen on the album cover.) and it has all the current ones we've seen so far, so They at least have the artwork for every single "Character"
I agree. However, Ascensionism pissed me off. You start off a song with this incredibly beautiful ballad. Here I am like, “Oh my God could this be better than ‘Atlantic?’” Then the song switches up to R&B and I’m like “What the fuuuuck?!?!” I felt like doing a Shawshank redemption style dramatic effect while down on my knees, arms out screaming “Nooooooooooo!”

As a heavy, deathcore metal listener, I find really stupid to think that you need to hate them just BC they're edging into pop, with metal. They're pretty much a mood. I didn't like the whole album myself but I think the work to compose and arrange the album was flawless, creative and changing.. very much appreciated. Really looking forward to hear more from them.

I learned that sometimes you can do everything in your power to make yourself a better person, paying more attention to details, actively listening, being compassionate, setting goals, trying to lead through the god of your understanding. Sometimes it has nothing to do with you. Sometimes the other person is just emotionally unavailable. Sometimes no matter how much you sacrifice and love for someone you felt one time to be your soulmate, no matter all of this. Love doesn't stay if you don't choose to keep it. A relationship takes commitment, communication, self respect and mutual respect and when the other person falls short with paranoia or insecurity from trauma you be there to lift them up without hurting yourself or becoming codependent. Its a very delicate dance. The dance of love is so rewarding because it mimics the love of our individual creator acting as an aura through us into someone else and then reciprocated. This is the hardest thing i ever have gone through but nothing in life worth having is easy. Dont ever let someone else dictate your emotions, dont ever let someone else minimize or invalidate how you feel. If they love you and if they are true, they willl pick you up when you need it. If someone truly loves you, they will make time to spend with you. They will text you and say things like "just thinking about you" sometimes first thing in the morning snd at the end of the day. If these things dont exist look at their actions. Sometimes peoples actions will compensate for a lack of something else. But when the person you love isnt twlking to you, isnt making time to spend with you unless it benefis them, they have taken you for granted especially if youve been there before. There is someone out there who will be on your level, thats why we all go through these experiences. Kind of like a bunch of seaweed thrashing around in the ocean until eventually the current evens out and we intertwine with another. Life is part of death and death part of life. Enjoy everyday like its your last and if you are fortunate enough to have a child with someone, please do everything in your power to keep thst relationship. My grandparents were married for 55 years. My parents split when i was born and if we as a generation dont break these cycles, we will ruin the lives of each ur future childrens children. Take the extra 5 minutes out of your 24 hour day to call your girlfriend and tell her you love her. Do not go to bed in an argument. Forgive eachother and move forward, because resentment will end up killing you. Pain is inevitable, suffering is a choice.

I honestly didn't think they'd top the summoning but they managed it.
That transition into the melodic and euphoric part at 4:56 gave me goosebumps, and with the following chorus after that, is just pure PERFECTION.

My brother introduced me to this song right before Christmas 23. I instantly fell in love with this song and had this on repeat for a week straight. This was literally the only song I listened to until I branched out to another Sleep Token song. I've not stopped listening to them for over a year, almost exclusively. I have never been so captivated by a band. I'm a winged insect and their music is a funeral pyre. Worship!
This has been my experience. I found them about two weeks ago, and have no control over the rate at which I am compelled to consume everything ST. It has been so long since music has touched my soul in this way. Like so many others, I struggle to find words to adequately convey the emotional response and jaw-dropping awe at their talent that I have. It's all a very intense experience, and I don't know what part of me needs to hear them constantly. Working through it all, I know, will bring the utmost healing.

I could literally SOAR through the sky. The emotion and lyrical genius this man has been gifted is absolutely unmatched. Went to one of their concerts in Austin tx and when they played rain on everything I love it started pouring the most beautiful rain. Sleep tokens music is so natural and upbeat it changes the weather. From one sleep token fan to another this shit is mind blowing.

my dog passed the day before this was released and i literally listened to this album ALL DAY yesterday and it’s really helped me feel so much better. sleep token is so good at what they do. the way the can mix several different genres and make it sound so good is incredible. it’s not easy to do. this is easily one of the best tracks on the album for me.
