Wow! This is very cool, I saw your tutorial and I am going to replace the DB410 drive on my B00 Frankenstein. I saw that you did it all in CFW, can I go back to OFW after the remarry completed? Thanks!
Thank you for this video! It saved my CECHC03 and my G04. Small correction I'd like to add: All PS3 lasers have 3 lasers inside. One blue, one red (dvd), and one ir (cd). You couldn't really read different media it without the different specific wavelenghts. Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing that the newer drives can be more relaible. I juts have no info on that :D

I wish I had seen this before throwing away a drive with a dead controller. Maybe the lens was still good :( My current one seems to have a broken laser but it also doesn't read DVDs. I have check it is KEM-410ACA. Should I replace the whole drive or just a laser assembly? Doesn't spin but some say it doesn't with a dead laser.
Awesome!!! i remenber i try that some Years ago but it did not work i don't know why, i think you can even use the lens from the Slim Models PS3 to put in that drive you said.
I have a CECHA01 model, not sure which drive is inside (one laser or two), but my system is currently reading PS1/PS2 CDs and PS3 Blurays, but not PS2 DVDs - which seems like it shouldn't be possible based on this video? Either it should be reading Blurays only, or nothing at all?
I'm having the exact same issue right now. It must be that the processes needed for the single laser to read dvds is malfunctioning somewhere along the way. Maybe there isn't enough power being given to the laser, or the drive isn't putting the laser in the proper position to read dvds but can still get to the proper position for other discs? I'm just going to replace the whole drive unit on mine.
Thanks for watching again! I have been practicing RSX desoldering these days. I am a bit more confident but still get RAM bleed from time to time. I received a lot of help from Felix along the way, so I am slowly working my way up now.
To be honest, I am not knowledgable enough to answer this. But after doing some research online, I found this: www.ps3sacd.com/faq.html#PS2_compatibility It seems no one could confirm if the optical drive is responsible for reading the SACD, or the PS2 hardware. So sad that I don't have a SACD to test it out...
Needs modding right?? I remember changing a phat PS2 optical pickup using an elf program to rewrite something on the PS2 logic circuit, that enabled the use of KHS-400C instead HD-7. Console motherboard was untouched, I mean modified because of this, but factory condition, no reading burned DVD or CD Rom games
I am about to replace the drive, but didn't understand the FAT32 USB drive and what is that use for? Does the FAT32 USB drive comes with the Blu-ray Drive KEM-410? or I need to purchase it separately?
Is it possible to swap laser from another slim (or fat) model to cech-2104B? KES-450a part is so expensive so i want to buy cheaper one from other model.
Sorry for the late reply. You simply need to install any CFW such as CFW 4.90 Evilnat Cobra. Then you remarry the new BD410 drive using the CFW. After that you can either keep the CFW or remove the CFW if you don't like it.
