- Hey guys wade here, I recently faced
an issue with my PS3 I bought and wanted to make a 2018 update because it's been a long time since people have made videos on the topic and I just wanted to make a clean fresh fast simple video on the best of tips that I could find that worked perfectly for me, so don't worry about stubling and searching for hours, I already did that, and I would feel bad if I just hid this info lol, anyway this is the best ways I found to fix this ps3 issue!!!

Alright so thats my fix on it like ive said, with these old ps3s you just gotta be careful and look for parts if you need a new one, they are old systems so you just have to look out.

Dude my ps3 does spin the disk but it makes a little noise and doesn't load the game properly like sometimes it shows the subtitles but the dialogs can't be heard it make noise like the disk is getting stuck while spinning

Hey I need help with reattaching the arrow medal link on the back of the blu ray drive. I unscrewed it and now when I try to re-insert the arrow medal, it won't.
Bro! I’ve had my PS3 sitting for years because the discs quit spinning. Researched and researched how to change the laser and/or the motors. Didn’t think in a million years it was just a peg on gears that wasn’t lined up! This was such a blessing right in the middle of all this virus chaos. Thank you so very much!!!

@@wormdude5320 My model has an issue with the laser, but it was clean and looked new. It will not take discs because it stops and won't move. Do you know any way to fix that?

Fixed my disk not spinning issue. Literally the only video on youtube that talks about aligning the top cover properly.

what happened to yours? mine just stopped reading the disc all of a sudden
@@theblukatlife My problem was the little notch he talks about, it didnt sit right in the disc drive so, my disk would go in but not sit into the drive and read/spin, is yours disc spinning at all?
@@Gingerthehorse1404 I dont know I haven't check if it spins, I left it on playing mw3 and when I came back to play it stopped and stopped reading the discs
@@theblukatlife does the disc eject? if it does then and the disc spins, if it spins then its sitting in the slot but may not be reading

Thanks, I got a PS3 for five bucks with a "bad blue-ray drive" I follow your tutorial and the first time the unit was spinning but not reading the disk, went back and disassemble the drive, cleaned the lens with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and now is reading the discs like new!

I bought a ps3 fat it worked fine but I was very dirty inside, so I took it apart cleaned it and put it back together then it would not work anymore It started getting the problems where it wouldn’t accept the games, what my issue was I didn’t aline that plastic part to that hole so it was not spinning. You saved me so much hassle and drama thank you so much for this update video
I LOVE YOU. like not in a gay way but in a "now i can set and chill and play my old games again" kinda way. I had a ps3 with very low hours that my older brother gifted me before he passed in 2015, I literally cried when my son broke the bluray drive. Turns out it was such a easy fix!!! TY!!!!
This is a great video. I have the same issue with it not inserting, I had my GPU reballed and my disk drive isn’t taking any disks, I’m going to open it up and do this.

I only have the disc doesn’t spin issue. I followed the steps and it takes my disc inside but still doesn’t spin. I made sure to line up the pins. Any idea what else it could be?

This video was fantastic. I found a quarter stuck in the disc drive followed all the steps went back together just fine. I panicked before because my disc got stuck so I cut the power off so now I’ll have to wait till I get home but it should work now
I found something to make it a little easier to align the gear to help the drive spin. Flip the arm that needs to be moved and watch the outside/top of the tray. You will see two small holes and you can see the arm go past them. I put a tiny screwdriver in the second hole after pushing the gear arm all the way over and that helped keep it in place when setting it back on the rest of the drive. I hope this is helpful to someone.

@@zenny_pickle1745no worries, basically do everything up until 7:20 in the video. Instead of closing it and holding it down the way he does, I’d suggest putting something like a pencil or screwdriver through the hole he is mentioning so you can keep everything in place and close it more easily as opposed to carefully closing it. Sorry it has been a minute since I followed this video for instructions but I hope that is helpful

Hope this works for my ps3. Had it apart already for lense cleaning and i missed something in reassembley. I didn't follow a video last time either I went through a step by step quide on the web somewhere. He forgot to mention being careful where to place the top
This could be my problem now, stripped down my 60g. reflowed, new thermals, clean as f**k went into the blu ray gave the lens a clean. Put it back together. Went to put my disc in and it gets stuck 99% the way in just enough to make the disc disappear. Motors keep spinning then they go crazy and stop but I can hear that the cradle for laser assembly isn’t coming up to left the disc and lock it in with the magnet. I must of just missed the alignment hole on the lid of the blu ray
I have this problem. I followed the video and fixed it. But the defect recurs and the white hook remains blocked shortly after. What does it depend on?

I have ps3 slim i open it up for clean blu ray lens and put it together after the whole job i can not insert disc because that white plastic thing. How can i fix that? Anyone a idea?
This helped me a lot because I had to remove two discs manually(I'm not sure how there were two) and afterwards it wouldn't let me put a different disc in. However After I fixed it , I tried to put the disc in and I think it was too weak to catch it and now it recognizes there's no disc, but it put that piece up again. Any advice on that?

Fucking awesome. This still works in 2021. Your video is the only one with a clear explanation of how the gears work. My ps3 is running so much better after cleaning my blu ray drive lens. I was not able to get a disc back in until this vid. Thank you.

Saddly i have to get a new ps3 as the clip that holds the ribbon cable from the cd drive to the motherbord snapped off and theres nothing i can do to fix it so i took my hard drive out and had to bin the ps3

Hi the blue bit on the end of the blu ray ribbon come off so I glued it back
On an plugged it in but now I have no response when I try insert a disc it doesn’t pull it in or do anything. The ps3 still comes on it’s just the disc part isn’t working
Bad contact of the ribbon, that cable is a dificult mess. try connecting again.
