  • Many people suffer from dry eyes, and have a hard time finding relief with treatment. This video goes over one possibility of eye dryness and eye inflammation caused by inadequate eyelid seal. Sleep Tite/Sleep Rite is designed to help treat just that.
    Sleep Tite/Sleep Rite also has a sensitive option for those with known tape/glue allergies.

    WHAT IS DISCUSSED IN THIS VIDEO
    Sleep Tite/Sleep Rite is an eyelid tape device/treatment that provides a proper seal of your eyelids while you sleep. Many people may have an improper seal, that leads to inflammation with dryness symptoms. It may get to a point where dry eye treatments provide very little help and relief. This is an over-the-counter product, but does better when working in conjunction with your eye doctor to monitor dry eye signs. This may be the dry eye home remedy that you are looking for.

    Once of the best parts of this device, in my opinion, is that you might be able to actually keep your ceiling fan on without the fan itself causing as many dry eye symptoms. I know that many eye care providers are telling patients to turnoff or turn down the ceiling fan at night to reduce dry eye symptoms and some people have to sleep with that circulating air on to get proper rest.

      You can get it at Wallgreens, CVS, or Amazon.
      I use a non name brand too from Amazon called: Rugby, cheaper and is same formula.
      Hypertonic 5% Sodium Chloride ointment.
      My Ophthalmologist started me on it -no prescription necessary.
      Stings a bit when you start it, but you get used to it. It is a salty ointment that keeps your eye moist and is healing. It will help for sure. Only at bedtime since it is a bit thick- and you can’t see well with it until it melts in your eye. Good luck!

      I have had semiannual corneal erosions for many years. Cole Eye Institute didn’t figure out that I must sleep with my eyes open. Finally an optometrist suggested I tape them shut. Instant results. I had been using gobs of Muro 128, that sometimes worked. When it did not, off to the optometrist for a bandage contact. If I forget to tape and fall asleep, even for an hour or two, I have cornea problems. I use 3M Nexcare tape. About $50 for a year’s worth. No irritation ever. If you need to get up, it easily reseals. Good luck!

      Sorry for the long delay here. Yes, I've used the damp paper towel with the heated eye mask thing. The key is that the paper towel is very damp but not sopping wet. I usually wet a folded paper towel (so that it's length-wise and fits over my closed eyes), and zap it for about 10 seconds in the microwave. Once it's warm, I put it over my closed eyes and the heating mask over that. @@twinklestars4949

    Thank you for this. In 2019, I a very bad cold / flu bug which also caused pink eye in my left eye. My doctor gave me antibiotic drops for that, but then 3 weeks later I woke up feeling as if something was in that eye. This feeling lasted for days. Over the weekend I went back to that doc (Minute Clinic / not eye doc because they were closed). This general doc looked at my eye with a flashlight and dye and said I had a scratch on the eye. He gave me something for it (can’t remember) and told me to follow up with my eye doc. I did follow up with my eye doc a week later. My eye was just starting to feel better, and she saw no evidence of a scratch. So we aren’t 100% sure if that was a scratch.
    I think the pink eye did something to this eye since it was right after this that my left eye never was the same when sleeping. During the day, both eyes are fine, but at night when sleeping, that left eye gets very dry, and I wake up with a raw scratchy feeling in that eye only. Even when I use ointments or gels - I can sometimes wake up with ointment still in my eye, but it feels as dry as sand - with ointment sitting on top of my dry eye. It’s as if the pink eye interfered with the production of my tear layer while sleeping or something. My eye doc also checked with that light to check for a gap when sleeping. The first time she checked she thought she saw a hairline gap. Second time, no gap at all. We are still trying to figure this out. 😞

      Hey! I have the same problem ! I think I had pink eye and then right after I now have severe dry eyes at night, so bad that it's causing corneal abrasions. It's miserable! Have you found a solution?

    • @angela-r
      @angela-r 5 месяцев назад

      @@themeganann Yes! I had to use Muro 128 ointment in the affected left eye every night for almost a year (no skips or breaks). I believe this ointment gave the outer layer of my eye more time to heal naturally by not allowing my eyelid to cause micro-abrasions when opening in the morning. I haven’t used the ointment in a couple of months now. My eyes are still a bit dry when waking (esp my left) but no abrasions. Sometimes if I feel a little nervous about my left eye being more dry before sleeping, I will use the Muro 128 ointment before sleeping but this is very rare now. Also, I tried many other ointments that did not work as well. Something about the Muro keeps the eye hydrated all night (longer than the other ointments). I believe it’s related to how it works with the sodium in the eye. I hope the same might work for you! 🙏💕

    • @angela-r
      @angela-r 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@themeganann …And my theory as to why the Muro 128 ointment works: My eye doc said that in some people, the top, outer layer of our eye doesn’t “seal” as well as it did before the scratch or pink eye damage. Although I have also heard (and read) that the eye and most things in our body “want” to heal back to what they were. I think the reason this happens to some people is because our eye is irritated and healing from the original issue (scratch or pink eye). Then when we sleep, our eyelid might make a tiny abrasion in the outer film that keeps trying to heal, which starts the healing process all over again. By adding a good ointment that lasts through the night (and sleeping right after putting it in - no blinking or looking at your phone before sleeping), we are helping to keep the eye moist when waking so the eyelid doesn’t keep tearing the new outer layer that is trying to heal. This is just a theory, but I think it’s what happened in my case. I feel almost as normal as I did before my pink eye or scratch. Good luck to you!

Since I'm recommended not to rub my eye until my next appointment and my doctor said to only use eye drop every 3-4 hour since it use to be every 30min. If it feel too dry I use the eye drop. I have had trouble with my gas permeable contacts for years. They constantly get stuff stuck under them, and even when they don't, they feel dry most of the time. A few years ago I became unable to wear them for even a couple of hours before having to take them out. To make matters worse, I got a labradoodle puppy and two rabbits, all of whom have very long fine hairs that blow around in the air and basically weave themselves through my eyelashes and around my lenses! And the last few months of 2022 I was not able to wear my lenses for a few minutes before they would completely blur and feel full of hair. I found a paper online detailing experiments with a simple topical lotion of saline, hyaluronic acid, castor oil, and an emulsifier. The lotion was applied to all the skin around the eyes, right up to the eyelashes. Then both the castor oil and the HA penetrated the lids and moistened the eye. Lotion was reapplied throughout the day as needed for comfort. I make cosmetics, so I had all these ingredients handy; for the saline I used Clear Conscience Contact Lens Solution, which contains a preservative. I made the lotion, put my lenses in, applied the lotion every few hours, and that day I wore my contacts the entire day without ever feeling like I had to remove them to clean hairs out of them. My vision was sharp, clear, and bright. I thought it was just my optimistic imagination, but honestly it's pretty hard to fool myself, using just my mind, into believing that stabbing pain in my eyes is not real! I found that the first few days I had to apply the lotion about 3 or 4 times, but now I only put it around my eyes in the morning and before bed. I have been using the lotion for two months and have been able to wear my lenses without even noticing them, from the time I wash in the morning til I take off my mascara at night. The occlusive covers are a great idea, but I can't imagine them being tolerable for everyone. The lotion has the advantage that it can protect the eyes all day as well as at night. Here's the basic formula:
    preserved saline (Clear Conscience Contact Lens Solution)
    0.5% hyaluronic acid
    1% castor oil
    0.5% PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil to emulsify
    Shake well before each use
    I then tried a new formulation, based on other papers, including the above ingredients plus added flaxseed oil, on the grounds that the omega-3 fatty acids in flax are anti inflammatory. I don't think it was an improvement, and my eye area seems to be sensitive to flax oil, but your mileage may vary.

    I could see someone thinking "I'll just use some scotch tape. No different." I'm sure there are some risk factors for using something like that. What do you think are done of those risks of just using normal tape?

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  Год назад +3

      Good question. Some people can be sensitive or allergic to the adhesive in scotch tape. It's also not as breathable, so it would be bad for the skin to wear all night. Also it may not stick as well all night. Now, something like Nexum skin tape would be super close to the sleep tite/sleep rite adhesives, just not specifically designed for the eyelids.

    Unbelievable I have dry eyes, so dry infact that I have tarsoraphies in both eyes. Yet my eyes are still chronically dry as my lids still do not close properly. I have toyed with using tape to shut my lids at night, and now someone has produced a product to do it. Might give them a dry if they can be sourced here .

    • @DrEyeGuy
      @DrEyeGuy  Год назад

      @@AndreTownsel25 Depends on the cause. It's an antibiotic, so my guess for the use would possibly be for blepharitis, which contributes to dry eyes... so erythromycin could help. However, there are many other and likely better treatments out there for that condition and for treating dry eyes.

    I've had this for a decade. I have tried taping before but found it uncomfortable. Would still try these though.
    After trying everything, best combo is polyvisc ointment (woolfat based preservative free)before bed then put on Eye Eco Onyix sleep mask, it fits tight keeping a high moisture, blacked out environment.
