Dr. Neal Guymon discusses dry eyes and one of the biggest contributors to dry eyes, meibomian gland dysfunction (mgd) and blepharitis. Dr. EyeGuy talks about the four best advanced dry eye treatments at home that can help get rid of dry eyes. Dry Eyes can be very overwhelming and sometimes complicated to treat. Dr. EyeGuy has put together his top four Dry Eye home remedies and treatments that can work for most people. High Quality Omega-3 supplements or fish oil is very important. Keeping eyelids clean is also very important. Blepharitis can cause serious inflammation to the meibomian glands, which leads to dry eyes. Using a hypochlorous acid solution will help control bacteria on the eyelids. Heat Masks, warm compresses, and eyelid massages help keep the meibomian glands functioning.

Me too, no music please it does my head in, It takes away from what you’re saying. 😩 I nearly turned this video off. Great information otherwise , Thank you.

What about the LPI treatment do you recommend that??
Excellent,many thanks ❤
I have sjogrens and dry eye is a major problem. IPL Intensed Pulse Light treatments every 6 months has helped tremendously. I would recommend to all dry eye sufferers.
I have a cornea condition that causes severe dry eyes. I am also alergic to most of the preservatives they use to make most products that are supposed to help. After countless doctors & all their recommendations that actually made things worse, I decided to try my own idea & use the same thing I use for any topical application to the body...cold pressed virgin coconut oil. Just put a dab in the bottom eyelid and blink several times to spead it around. Not only does it work wonders, but is extremely affordable. I will never use anything else. Last trip for followup the doctor asked if the "Cequa" was working. I told him my insurance would't cover the $600 and told him what I've been using. At first he was appauled, but after seeing how much of an improvement I have, he actually told me to keep using it. You'll never hear a doctor tell you that!
Btw...tried mct in a dropper, but it doesn't have the same hydrating capabilities. Just carry a small glass container or jar (kind of like what tiger balm comes in) of coconut oil in a baggie so you always have it with you. You will be amazed!
Amazing! Thank you for sharing. I'm currently making a list of natural home remedies that people have shared with me over the past year, I will add this to the list. Thank you.
thanks for sharing, so called medicine which is a chemical may not always be the best choice given our entired life is around chemicals these days and better to avoid more chemicals to that list
@@RH-rz9tp great comment! I've got a fish allergy so I use Flax oil. I also crave sweet potatoes & coconut oil.
I will certainly try this coz I hv faith in Cold pressed virgin coconut oil. Thank you.
An Indian physician told me to remember to blink on purpose more for a minute or so every now and then and that sorted my dry eyes out.
Thanks would try it

What I like about your video is that you get right to the point in delivering information. Some want to talk endlessly, ugh.
Thank you Dr. for sharing this information. I have been experiencing the lightly smudged eyesight in my right eyefor about a month, sometimes better than others and definitely light sensitive and have just purchased the recommended eyedrops, omega gels and the eyelid cleansing spray; so, hopefully i'm on the right track. I"ve never experienced this before. Thank you again!
You are so spot on and very grateful to you education and help. This has been the worst of my dry eyes and I was getting really scared thinking it was my eyes itself. Never thought it would be my eye lids until I was doing the research for any kind of help. Last night I saw your first video I have looked at. I did the warm compresses, light massage and hard blinking. That alone made a huge difference. I was told that using eye drops for tears was damaging to the eyes. I have been using Refresh Tears Lubricant Eye Drops that was recommended by my eye doctor few years back. It does help but I saw a new one I never saw that you recommended. I have a hard time taking pills so I am eating foods with Omega in it and hopefully it will help. Thank you so much for your video's because they have put my mind at ease and working on better health.
Thank you for commenting. I'm glad this video can still be helpful!
This is the most informative video I’ve come across! Subscribed! Thank you so much!
Thank you Dr for your very comprehensive explanatory documentary.

Great video. And great background music 😎
This is excellent information and lots of it, thank you.
hello, thank you for your videos are very informative and helpful. I wanted to ask a few questions.
1. do skin booster injections around the eyes, which contain amino acids and hyaluronic acid, affect the meibomian glands and if so in which way?
2. do patches for the under eye that conceal the surface of the skin to bring moisture to the surface affect the meibomian glands and if so in which way?
3. do you think PRP injections around the eye area can help with meibomian glands disfunction?
Thank you !
Thanks, Dr. This is a very detailed info and I thank you for that. I tried 3 of that 4 and will add Omega 3.
Great video thanks Doc !
best video on MGD period!!!!!
Also, try using GLA, gamma lineolic acid(Borage oil) I use Nordic naturals brand. I also use Nordic Naturals, Pro Omega CRP brand fish oil capsules. It has extra curcumin in it as well as the Omega 3, EPA and the DHA. You need to take three a day.
This is the best video i've seen. This is what we need... Full information with the exact product we need. And more with tears... There are maaaaaaaaaaaaany in the stores and its very hard to fond what is better. I was tying manu but many not yet. And i saw what you showed and i was thinking they are not good. Thank you for this excellent video
Thanks for sharing this amazing video.
What's the effective ratio of OMEGA-3 to OMEGA-6?
GOD BLESS!
Thank you for this valuable info. I've been experiencing the dry eye issue for several years. Last year I caught a cold and wound up spending 3 days in bed. During this time I rested and avoided screens etc....as a result the dry eye issue almost disappeared. It's something to consider. Now I limit my time in front of screens & try to avoid them on the weekends. 🙂
I put plugs, drops, restates and gels. Still have dry eyes. I was told I have secondary Sjogrens. I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I take vitamins for dry eyes as well.
Thank you! Was very helpful!
Thanks Doc,great video 👍
Thank you very much for this video.

Dear Dr. Neal Guymon - Dr. Eye Guy:
Your videos just happened to suddenly appear & end up on my RUclips Feed. I'm really glad they did! I have already learned an enormous amount of information, which I can immediately use, implement, and take better care of my dry eyes. Thanks you very much.
Your professional & informative presentation stlye & manner are "5 Star." I just noticed this video is already a couple years old - 2020. I still hope, you read your comments.
My BEST to you and yours for 2023. May it be a wonderful year.
Best Regards, L-CJ
Thanks for these recommendations!
Any time!
I just purchased the liquid form of the omega 3 supplement you recommended (hate taking pills) - hoping it really helps! Thanks for the info!
Excellent information! I have tried many other strategies for my dry eyes, including using a humidifier but nothing worked. So I'll try the advanced treatments you recommend. Thank you very much.
THANKYOU FOR THIS VIDEO. IT IS SO HELPFUL. I WILL DEFINITELY BUY THE EYEDROPS. 🙌👊👍
I also take hit A AND hit D as they work synergistically. It helps heaps as well as drops
Please mention to your viewers that another option is to get a humidifier. Its made a tremendous difference for me.
does humidifier really help?
That's good to know. Thanks

You gave the best advice thus far. I mean even my eye doctor these doctors in Las Vegas are horrible they do not help you. you gave the best solution for me. I am just so relieved I ordered everything . I don't care how much it costs. I'm just like tired you can't even . I couldn't even get this kind of advice for my own I eye doctors. Thank you
Awsome help!
Thanks DR ❤️👍
I am being treated for dry eye disease, but here's what I need to find out. My symptoms are that the film over my eyes is thick and sticky with a syrupy consistency. So it's not as if my eyes are dry but more like there's an overproduction of mucus or something. Is this an atypical symptom or normal for dry eye disease? I am really kind of desperate to get an answer on this. I am suffering and it is impacting my vision.
I’ve been watching a lot of videos on dry eye recently bc mine seems to just have gone haywire and this video was so so helpful thank you!!
Mine too. I think allergy season is playing a BIG part in my dry eye discomfort right now.
Thank you so much!! I suffer from dry eye syndrome and it’s really bad some days. So bad that I can’t even open my eyes because of the burning and stinging. I am going to try all these methods you suggested. Even though, I do go to my ophthalmologist and optometrist regularly. I also had, a Vitrectomy in 2008 on both eyes because of type one diabetes and cataract surgery about two years ago in 2021! So my eyes are very important to me and I appreciate your videos, I learned a lot today I will be following you! Thank you so much Dr. EYEGUY!! 💜💜😊💯
Solid video. MGD sufferer here. Bruder mask + eyelid massage 2x a day, Omega 3 + GLA Omega 6 supplementation, a serious preservative-free gel drop (Celluvisc), and improving the air quality by reducing PM2.5 knocked it out for me and got my eyes in good enough shape for SMILE. Now I don't need glasses or contacts.
Don’t get any refractive surgery. It will ruin your eyes
@@nuzhatbutt3664 Don't fly on a plane. It will crash.
The Bruder mask makes my eyes feel worse
What omega 3 and gpa brand did you use? How long did u take to see improvement on this plan?
@@DanSmith-pr1zt Nordic Naturals for the omega 3...I still take it to this day. However, I also eat a lot of seafood, so it's hard for me to quantify which might be helping more. For GLA, I was using Now Foods. I have since discontinued this. Half a year after getting SMILE, my MGD has improved substantially because I am not wearing contacts every day. I continue to take the omega 3 for heart health (even though there is some question as to if such supplementation has benefit in that area.) I also still do the Bruder mask and scrub, but once every few days instead of twice a day. I also did not note in the original comment that I take a high dose of turmeric. I started taking it for arthritis, as it is a potent anti-inflammatory. However, I think it likely played a role in my SMILE recovery and MGD management because it how great it is at knocking down inflammation, and both refractive eye surgery recovery and MGD entail inflammation.
Is saline any good for dry eyes?
Thankful it helps n blessings to you
Very helpful video sir. Love from 🇱🇰 🤟 🤟 🤟 🤟 🤟
Great tips! I have dry eyes that seemed to get worse after lasik is that common?

While at home wear safety glasses which gives immediate relief by shielding your eyes from air. It’s not the ultimate answer but while the glasses are on you will have no dry eye at all
The most efficient and easy way that worked out for me the best without any teardrops is to put a cold wet cloth overnight on my eyes or for a few minutes and repeated the process over and over it really helped me and my dry eyes had been healed completely. I have wasted money visiting 2 doctors which they gave me a different tears drop everytime . Thanks to my aunt who advised me to do this And I will recommend everyone who has dry eyes Also if anybody is using muscle relaxer They are going to have dry eyes according to the Google
@@ssaniassania8744. Glasses cause more eye strain for me but it might work for others.
Thank you Doctor.
@@ssaniassania8744 my doctor told me hot presses!
Use clear plastic or the yellow lense . It blocks the air from drying your eyes when walking around or if vents or fans are blowing air on you.

I am sorry I did that. I can't change it after it's uploaded on youtube. I wish I could. I have since changed that in my recent videos. Thank you for watching anyway.
I've found that clear nonprescription glasses help by shielding my eyes from wind and sun.
Thanks for this comment. I have some videos coming out about these types of glasses soon.
For contact wearers what would be the best eye drop, Doc?
Ich recommend Thealoz® Duo Gel ❤
Thank you. Helpful. ❤
Thank you .Doctors .
Dr. Guymon, great video! You’re doing a wonderful service. As one OD to another, may I suggest that you consider the underlying cause of dry eye? I believe dry eye is part of a syndrome of inflammatory metabolic disease. Omega 3 helps greatly with inflammation, but if you reverse insulin resistance, you will see massive improvement in patient success. Unless we correct the cause, we are just managing symptoms.
Thank you! I am actually planning on a specific video just about the possible causes of dry eye, which as you know, can be a lot to cover. But I'll do my best.
Hi, Doctor. Thanks so much for all this great information. I would like to know how soon after an eye compress and massage can you put in the lubricant eye drops.
Another great question! You technically could put in a drop as soon as you are done. When I do it, I usually wait a few minutes, around 10 minutes.
Can you suggest something for blocked tear duct ? Thank you.
This video help me out a lot. God bless you. ❤❤ honey. Dr did not gave me such a detailed demo because they didn’t have time at my visit
Thank you. I had lasik done by Lasik plus that went horrible. They have a lifetime guarantee but ghosted me as soon as they saw the problems on the follow up. After finding another doctor I was informed I was not a good candidate to have lasik done. I’ve been to tons of doctors taking steroids, IPL and every day is still hell. I dread every morning because it feels like sand is packed in my eyes taking me about an hour to be able to see. I’ve already tried several of the things presented but I’ll give the others a shot
So sorry to hear this. Have you joined any facebook support groups? Dry Eye Syndrome Support Community and Dry Eye Care are really good ones. There a lot of people on there in a similar situation and many posts about different dry eye treatments that have worked for them.
And did u find any solution?
Thanks Dr, very useful info👍 I like that you recommended an electric heat mask. I’ve been looking for one, and there are so many online(very hard to know which would be safe/effective), and I don’t own a microwave, also, electric ones seem great for work and travel.
However, do you have a more affordable recommendation/alternative to Electric Heated Eye Masks?😬It would be really appreciated if you had a more affordable electric mask to share with us🙏Or if you could tell us if any available on the market would be good for dry eyes or what to look for.
Also, useful to know it’s important to use artificial tears in the morning. I assumed eyes should be more moist since they were closed for hours; so good to know that it’s good to start of the day using them since I always waite a while after I start my day/begin working on the computer(trying not to abuse their use).
Thanks for all you share with us!!
I am in Ontario Canada and have never seen any of the products you have suggested. Do you happen to have any products to suggest that would be available in Canada?
Been using Nordic child for yrs!!! ( couple x per day!) Great tips!
Great video and useful comments. By the way is it okay to use artificial tear drops everyday continuously for a year or so?
Yes, it is usually safe to use artificial tears continuously, especially preservative free drops.

I started using avocado oil. Cooking with it or just taking a teaspoon or two every day. Dry eye gone. I can actually see a glistening coating of tears for the first time in a decade. Also, I take sockeye salmon oil, but it was the addition of avocado oil that made the real difference. Eating salmon helps, too, but the dry eye returns unless I eat it daily.

Hi Dr. EyeGuy, just found your channel! Is it okay to use both Refresh and Lumify regularly?
Good question! Technically yes, I'm always hesitant to have people on drops regularly, but sometimes that is what is needed.
I’d be careful with #3 until a root cause is diagnosed. I have ocular rosacea, and warm compresses only increase inflammation for me!
Excellent point! Very important to know the core issue of your dry eyes. It's also good to be careful with eyelid massage as well. If you are too aggressive and do them often, then it could potentially have negative effects. Thanks for commenting!
For me too
@@DrEyeGuy so if you have ocular rosacea, should you not do hot compresses?
Hello, may I ask what do you use instead of warm eye compresses to encourage meiobian glands to produce oil?
@@ep1837 Hi EP! Since I do tend toward redness in my whole face already, I use Blephadex wipes. They work SOOOOO well for me, but it's really individual! The foam is cheaper to use, but the wipes are just easier. If my diet is good, I can get away with using them every other day.
Thanks for your informative and educational video. I am wondering if wearing mascara, and makeup would worsening the eye dry sympthoms? I have avoided wearing any kind of make up on my eyes for avoiding worsening the disconfort in my eyes.
Yes, they can, either the ingredients can worsen the symptoms, or by wearing the makeup over the water line and affecting the meibomian glands of the eyelids.
My doctor recommended I-Drop MGD as the best eye drops. Curious as to whether you're familiar with it and what you think of it.
Thanks, i like the information. I suffer from chronic dry eye, and learned that you could have a vitamin A deficency, i took a supplement that was not all beta carotene, since your body must convert it. I saw improvements with my eyes. I also ate more sweet potatoes.
This is awesome to hear. I'm actually researching diet for dry eye for an upcoming video. Thanks for the comment.
my left eye keeps getting so dry while sleeping that it wakes me up 2-3 times a night. I keep the eye drops in a box next to my pillow. Thanks for the info.
I found that sleeping on my side opens the eye lid a little and dries it out. I sleep with a goggle like device like TranquilEyes that helps keep the moisture in. There are other types sold on Amazon as well.
You may be sleeping with eyes slightly open. Try a sleep mask.
I almost didn't listen to you... I almost passed this up! First good night sleep I have had in two weeks!
Hi. Thank you so much for your informative videos. They are very helpful. I hope that you can assist me with my problem. I am 74 years old, and I have glaucoma in both eyes. My left eye is blind. The doctor gave me sterile drops (Atropine Eye Drops; Pred Forte) for my left eye because it was very painful. When I started using it, my left pupil began turning white. So now my eyeball is grey-ish white over my iris. As for my right eye, it has a cataract, and the pressure is 18-19. Additionally, my eyelid on the left eye has dropped. Is there anything you can recommend to remedy or reverse this?
What temperature does the heat need to be to be effective? My skin is very sensitive and not great with heat. Thank you!
Good question. 45C/113F is what everybody says is effective. But I have the opinion everybody is different. You could do it cooler and see how it works for you.
I’ve been keto for 2 years, high omega 3 diet. No seed oils. Doing everything right , but it hasn’t helped dry eyes at all. It’s helped a lot of other things though. I just bought a eye wash and eye heat/ messager. Hoping that will help.
Hey, did you get to try the heat mask yet?
I'm curious if you know what type of dry eye you have? I wonder if yours if more aqueous deficient, and maybe not inflammatory?
@@kazi8895 I really like my heat mask, it feels really good but an hour later my watery eyes comes back.
Make sure you’re drinking enough water. I heard even by the time a person notices they’re thirsty they’re already dehydrated. Get some electrolytes to help. I’ll bet it has to have some influence.
Dry Eye is caused by vitamin A and E deficiency. Try that.
Thank you very much that’s my problem

@@tejuschannel my best suggestion is like go to top hospitals like lv Prasad or Aravind eye hospital near your location why because most of the doctors they just say to take drops and they don't say clearly what is te problem and one main suggestion to you please listen to doctor instead of watching videos about dry eyes why because of we see comments people just give negative comments because of that we get disappointed
Eyedrops is supposed to give instant relieve/result for blurry due to dry eye, am I right? But using it will cause blurry due to the sticky ingredient (same goes to natural tears when we cry). If we wait long enough, then our vision will be less blurry but that also means the eyedrops has become lesser/dismiss. So what's the point? Or am I the only one who get blurry vision after putting eyedrops?
Depends on the person and their tear film. Some people get immediate clear vision and better feeling eyes. Also, if you have dry patches, punctate erosions on the surface of the eyes, that can cause blurry vision. Using eye drops can help heal those dry patches, or prevent them from happening, and clear your vision.
Thank you so so much for all the help. Really appreciate it.
thanks you dr.
