Today, I want to cover the different causes and remedies for rib pain or costochondritis.
The first symptom of costochondritis is chest pain. So, it can sometimes be mistaken as a heart problem. The typical treatments for costochondritis are medications, steroids, or injections.
The cause of costochondritis is considered unknown. However, from my experience, I think there are two primary causes:
    1. An old injury to the front chest cavity or an injury in the back part of your ribs or spine.
    2. A vitamin D deficiency.
Unilateral sports, like golf, tennis, or baseball, may also lead to this condition. If your pain is on the lower right side of your rib cage, it may be caused by a gallbladder issue. In my opinion, even spending a lot of time in front of a computer could lead to this condition.
One of the best natural remedies for costochondritis is vitamin D. I would take 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 a day along with 100 mcg of vitamin K2 (the MK7 version).
Certain stretches and exercises may also help with this condition as well as promote relaxation and sleep. The mobility stick or the massage device I created are great tools to help with these stretches.

I had this years ago in my early 30s. It was so painful I could barely breathe and some nights I would awaken in the middle of the night and wouldn't be breathing at all because of the pain. I would have to actually force myself to breathe to get oxygen back into my body. I went to 3 different doctors before I got a diagnosis. He gave me anti-inflammatories, steroids and pain meds and I got better fast. I've never had another episode, thank God, but I still remember how painful it was and how incapacitated I was. That was over 45 years ago and thankfully, I'm still getting around ok.

The problem being on steroids and ant-inflammatories is that it is not advisable to be on them for an extended time

My 11 year old daughter suffered greatly from this. We visited a lot of doctors and eventually saw a heart specialist who diagnosed her. Its from inflammation so I found a turmeric extract called curcumin. Shes takes it morning a night and she has zero symptoms. She use to become light headed, nauseous, pale, depressed. It was extreme. She dropped out of all sports. The curcumin saved her life.

For OP, please look up a product called a backpod. I have this chronic issue. Yes it’s chronic. Daily stretching using the backpod, doing chin tucks, and arm wall stretches will help you. The biggest thing that helped me was the backpod. Please get that for your daughter and I guarantee it will help you.
The vitamin d didn’t help me. I took 10,000 mg and still do, but it didn’t help me.

I was diagnosed with costochondritis in 2021, after I had Covid. I got my diagnosis but I didn't get strong medication so my recovery still had a long way to go. I took things into my own hands by researching and found this educational vid on RUclips where a doctor explained how increasing blood flow to your back area would help with healing your rib. I decided to get back to the gym and change my workout plan, doing light exercises for the back, several days a week. Eventually, the pain went away and I could wear seatbelts again, workout properly and much more.
Today, I'm almost fully healed but I'm not so comfortable with certain angles when it comes to my left side and arm position. Still, I recommend to anyone who is suffering from this condition to do a lot of light back exercises to increase blood flow to your spine wich will in turn heal your ribs.

I had this when I had a horrible bout of bronchitis and was coughing deeply and for long periods of time. The pain drove me to the ER with the Doctor saying it was costochrondritis….when finally recovered from the bronchitis the pain eventually disappeared but oh it was so painful to even breathe. BTW, after getting bronchitis 1-3 x a year, and covid after a full three month bout of the bronchitis totaling 4.5 months of miserable sickness, i did my research and went on a supplement regiment with antioxidants and D3, K2, and many others i think around 18 of them, i have not had an upper respiratory infection for 3+ years! And of course prayer. It all works! What a freedom from illnesses!

I was doing a lot of cycling at an intense level. My breathing was very hard and over time I must have strained all my intercostal muscles because one day I simply twisted and dislocated a rib. The muscles were so tight they pulled a rib out of my mid back, ouch. Recovery was non existent until 4 weeks later I saw a massive improvement when I stretched the front of my body. Simply bending over backwards on a foam roller immediately helped. I've also been massaging my own ribs in the front. The pain was incredible but along with stretching I've seen massive improvements. Its funny because i felt no pain in ny ribs until i started massaging inbetween them, but treating and stretching the front has sorted out alot of problems i had in the back.

my chest fell on the handle bar of my bike when I was a kid. I fell hard on it and it knocked the wind out of me. the docs said I almost died. then a few years later I was diagnosed with scoliosis, which corrected itself through my adolencence but started having severe chest pain at 18 years old. the hosp doc didnt know why and just said I had "Pleurasy" which frickin kept me from pursuing the dream I wanted in the USAF and police force. I have a lot of weird, strange seamingly serious health symptoms now, and the docs either don't understand, or just don't want to take it seriously. I've put my body through A LOT of abuse my whole life. the docs aren't doing crap. It's all my responsibility cause they don't care. THANK YOU DR. This is a horrible horrible horrible debilitating condition that is not discussed enough, too many doctors know nothing about it. There is a device called a backpod that has helped me tremendously although I’ve accepted this is a chronic condition.

I use a Shakti acupressure mat. It takes a little getting used to however it works for me. I actually fall asleep within 5 minutes and have my wife time me for 20 minutes each use. The mat uses thousands of tiny spikes to stimulate the body’s pressure points. It is designed to help relax tense muscles, reduce stress and tension, improve circulation, and promote overall wellbeing. It’s a form of Chinese medicine for centuries.

I have this on the left side for nearly three years now.
No doctors were able to tell me what it was. the pain is always there but more or less intense.
I figured that eating kiwi makes the pain less intense for some reason ...
    Thank you doctor Berg !

I hang from a bar for at least 2 minutes every night. I couldn’t perform this after open heart surgery to replace the aortic valve, so I was in a lot of pain afterwards. I needed my sternum to fully heal, which took about a year to FULLY heal.

I was having cramping or charlie horses in my ribs when ever I twisted to the sides. I researched because it was very painful and sudden. I learned that if your electrolytes are deficient it can cause this. I increased my magnesium and potassium and calcium intake n it along with vit D solved the issue. Now I noticed that if I skip those for a few days it will return. I had my Dr test my blood for vitamin deficiency n learned my calcium was fine but continue mag n potassium n D.

Thank You very very much!!! Now I know what is causing the excruciating pain in my ribs. My daughter said it is a floating rib. I say but it's caught on an organ. Scar tissue makes perfect sense. I did notice that when I stretch in the morning not to stretch all the way as a normal person stretches. And I don't have that unbearable pain. Plus I am dealing with scoliosis also. So that a double whammy. That's probably why when I don't stretch all the way I don't bring the pain on. Thanks again. Makes total sense.

Don't forget to do manual lymph drainage too. It will sooth as well as clear up the lymph vessels, ducts and nodes. It helps reduce pain too

Thank you for this video. When I was in my teenage years I was a passenger in 2 major car accidents. Didn’t herniate any of my thoracic vertebrae but did herniate L5-S1. Now that I’m older I’ve been getting “heart” pain. Including shortness of breath, lightheaded, feeling weak all of a sudden. I’ve had the whole gamete of testing and my heart is fine. I do have Lupus SLE, Sjogren’s and RA (Yay me). So they’ve called it costochrondritis.
So they have lumped it into one of these being the reason, basically idiopathic. They have given me nitroglycerin patches, and that seems to help. Wear as needed not daily. But would that have any effect if it was costochrondritis? Or could I have 2 causes of costal pain? It’s confusing

Dr Berg TY for clearing this up! An old injury….that explains that now. I’m 72, thought it was 🧡 happy to know it’s the cartilage inflammation. I’m using infrared light to help with healing. When. 28 yrs I fell backwards on tree trunk n roots. And a recent jumping on trampoline reignited my costochondritis. TY DR Berg

Every blue moon, I get a pain in the left side of the chest, that hurts the most when I would try to inhale all the way. I've had it for decades. Only in the past year I realized, if I lift my left arm over my head and lean back, stretching that part of the chest, while inhaling, it would go away within minutes.
