Haven't really been into The Proclaimers, apart from 500 miles,,, but man, this is magic,, I've been away from Scotland for over 50years,, but hey, you can take the boy out of Scotland,, but you can't take Scotland out of the boy,,, absolutely wonderful song that brought back so many nostalgic memories 👍🏴
I'm a Celtic fan...60 years ... of goals and misses and penalties and fish suppers on the way home from the game of leaping with joy...and sometimes of broken hearts!!...For me, the Hibs fans singing this at Hampden when they won won the Scottish cup in 2016 was one of the most moving in football...The man who said ..."ach it's only a football match " ...didn't have a heart...or experience Sunshine on his Leith..... Football is more than a game and this is more than a song.
Most underrated band of all time, best lyricists, best live band and all round brilliance. While I'm worth my room on this Earth I will LOVE THE PROCLAIMERS.
Heard this on radio four this morning where people told of its meaning to them. My goodness how the tears welled. It’s a beautiful beautiful song, and these lads have a new fan. Utube here I come,
@@markburrow5916 I have played the football fans singing this over and over and it’s akin to the welsh rugby fans singing their anthem in Cardiff Arms Park many years ago. Spine tingling warmth from the heart, sharing a good feeling in these mixed up times.
A couple of comments say: I am English but..., I am a Hearts’s fan but..., well: I can see no contradiction in being this or that and enjoying Proclaimers’ music. Therefore I say: I am Italian AND I love them!
I'm English and I have to say that "While I am worth, my place on this earth, I will be with you" are words that I shall be putting on my girlfriends next bunch of flowers. Astoundingly beautiful.
@@ObePawnKenobi It reminds me of how God made me a brand new creation in ways I could never have imagined. He was the only one who knew my heart was broken and had been for a long time. I cried out to Him in sorrow for how I was living my life and I felt a sense of His justice for a few moments before being enveloped in His Love and forgiveness. And I felt a huge weight lift off me (later when I read the New Testament, I realized this was sin and hurt and trauma i.e my sin but also sins done to me). Now I have 24/7 peace no matter the circumstances. I don't know why this (how he heals and restores) isn't preached far and wide. Jesus is the redeemer, the rescuer, the restorer, the saviour. [That's what the name "Jesus" means in Hebrew]. This song appeals to people's longing and that longing is spiritual and can ONLY be satisfied by being reconciled to God through His son Jesus (Romans 5:1, John 14:6). "Therefore if anyone is in Jesus Christ they are a new creation. Behold old things have passed away and all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17) "If anyone does not have the Holy Spirit of Christ in them, then they do not belong to God" (Romans 8:9, based on Jesus's words in John 14:16-17) "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering [patience], gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance [self-control]" (Galatians 5:22-23)
I will always remember that cemetary in Leith, where you rarely see dates of death on the gravestones, but instead dates of "Lost at Sea". Leith is a very special place with a very special athmosphere. Everybody who visits Edinburgh should go there for a day and just walk around. Even if you see not so nice spots, you can feel some sort of energy, and a sense of pride, if you talk to people there.
The tears in my eyes are lit with joy the short photography inspired memories of places and people and balanced times skint as we were and of course skint as we are now, yet to be elevated to a time coupled with immense singer/songwriters as these two brothers..stay as one there is so much potential ..the surface of modern history has been raised. My love Ken
Well done for grabbing this video. I have watched this so many times over the years, apologies to only comment now! You are absolutely right this video needs to be shared, its just magical. The Proclaimers really are raw Scottish talent and the business. They always deliver when acoustic.
I've never appreciated this song as much as I do now. I'm an Australian who lived in Edinburgh 24 years ago and I remember Leith like it was yesterday. And.... it still has part of my heart. And I thank you💛 Great performance by the way👍
What a beautiful day that was 21/05/2016 Winning the Scottish cup. 114 years curse, to finally lift the cup. Stokes 3’ 80’- Gray 90+2 Brought tears to my eyes.

astounding, amazing, super emotional, heart rending perfection....a raw, piece of brilliance, expressed in under five minutes....a timeless work of magical genius that will last forever.....
Preparing for my first ever trip to Scotland and Edinburgh tomorrow, despite living in the country next door for 28 of my 50 years. Been playing this song a lot in preparation, even had a go a recording it, but it's too high for me.
Love this, I remember early 80's staying in Edinburgh with flatmates and working as a temp secretary at Henry Robb shipbuilders in Leith. Sadly my job was typing out the redundancy letters to the ship builders and watching the final ship launch
Thats real talent , as good as any studio recording but just done raw in real time , very little equipement support , Scotland is gifted with talent , Musicians , Engineers , Medical , the list goes on and on . its a " Yes " for me in May 2015 , lend my vote to the SNP , :-)
This was indeed filmed during the recording/filming for BBC Radio 4's Lyrical Journey. It was filmed by Ranald Leask, who is a massive fan and originally did this for fun, and then it was edited and sent on to the Proclaimers and the BBC. It was very much fun to watch all this happen. : )
No gimmicks, no electonics, no studio, no auto-tune, just pure un-altered talent
stop comparing. It's idiotic.
@@lewisc215 but not as idiotic as your reply
Sadly so rare.
@@grantmcinnes1176 Unfortunately very true. Far too much manufactured rubbish these days that all sounds samey.
This is probably one of the best songs ever written. Absolutely beautiful.
I thought us Welsh liked our tunes, but these guys truly are a national treasure - filled with talent and brimming with Scottish pride.
Might just be a Celt thing, or even just an Isles thing. Nobody sings folk like people from the Isles
Thanks we Scottish are too emotional ,but its nice to be.
sfa OK ! from a leither
My mother was born in Leith Walk many years ago and was always very proud of the place she came from .
This song rips me to pieces,
Tugs at the old heart strings.
God knows why,
Absouloutly fantastic performance by the lads😊😊😊
Because it's pure. Does the same to me as well. Old geezer now, proper into my 60s and this is the first song to make me greet floods.

Was it the half hour special talking to people how much this song meant to them?
Leith is a great place, and these songs are from the heart and soul. ❤
How rotted must the souls be of the ones who gave this a thumbs down?
They must not have a soul!
They opened organic craft ale bars in Leith and don't understand the locals
One of the best You Tube clips for many a long year.......
From the first line, this moves me to tears - and I've no idea why. An incredible song - so, so beautifully rendered.
As a Leither born and bred, I loved this…..thank you
Takes me back to the three great years of living in Edinburgh. Hibs were the first club I ever supported my ny heart.
Lord, I love that city.
