Really? I'm not so sure. There's a story about a pretty rousing performance of Psalm 124. Was it when English interference in the Kirk was thrown out and the Reformation/Presbyterianism reinstated? Possibly in 1600s?
And remember Jenny Geddes triggered a riot there too. By throwing her stool at English-prayer-book ministers.
It hasn't always been a fiefdom of the Establishment.

I’m Scottish and agree. Im not a nationalist, however I used to frequently sit next to him on the Edinburgh to London shuttle and he was a nice bloke. Different views and opinions are important. How we share them is also important - we’ve sadly lost that skill.

I am a Scottish nationalist BECAUSE I am English. English tax payers subsidise Scottish lifestyles to a truly wicked degree. For instance,e we have just handed them an extra 3.5 billion, and Scottish pensioners will now get their winter fuel payment. It is evil, utterly evil.

No one has wanted to come back. Barbados 🇧🇧 removed the Queen as head of state not that long ago.
The words of the song “I can't understand why we let someone else rule our land” The Scots are more than capable.
The English are scared to loose Scotland.

I hate to break it to you but Scottish independence is not going to happen any time soon. The SNP are losing support. There is no figurehead now in the same fashion as Alex Salmond. You can sing all the songs you like, the UK isn't going anywhere.

I thought they would’ve played ‘Sunshine on Leith’ instead of playing the opening chords to Queens…..’This thing called love ‘ . Good send off ‘Afore ye go ‘ though 👍

He was a very clever politician and he very nearly convinced Scotland that Independence was the right thing to do. I now know he was wrong and my family and friends ( some of whom voted SNP) cannot wait to get them out next May. However respect to Alex Salmond who at least you knew where he stood! RIP Alex🙏

How do you know it wasn't the right thing to do? It's not like independence was achieved so that you have a comparison to make.

It’s good to have seen different politics rather than themes of the same and this recent woke agenda. Very damaging.

It’s embarrassing swinney has no spine to call a plebiscite

    • @johncarney9049
      @johncarney9049 22 дня назад

And how do you think that will go? Don't get me wrong I support independence - but a plebiscite is a stupid idea and will fail, leaving unionists with even more ammunition.
Now let's assume for a second that a plebiscite was held and the vote was to go in independence's favour. Great, but we both know that it will be a slim majority. So what then?
The UK agrees in this scenario to allow us our independence but what have we inherited?
We have inherited a deeply divided newly independent Scotland - at a time when the going will get tough and we need to pull together to make it a success - and without that it will fail. Swinney knows that I am sure.
Support needs to be as high as it was against leaving the EU for it to succeed, Alex Salmond knew that, he may have disagreed with the SNP's approach but he knew the reality of the situation.
