What can I do if my car does not have the port? It's a 1990 car.
Would be interested to know if the is can do epb on vw group?
Hello sir. Can you recommend a scanner that will read my ATF temp. I’m needing to change my atf out drain and refill on my 08 Lexus rx350. I know the procedure. But struggling on picking out a cost efficient scan tool. Thx. Best regards. I’m in Alaska.
Hello from Russia :)
@@jeremiahlyleseditor437 all cars sold in the USA after 1986/7 have to have a aldl or diag port somewhere on the vehicle. What make and model is it?
This is why I love to watch Scotty. He’s honest!
Not always. He badmouths turbocharged 4 cylinder engines in some videos & promotes them in others. Also has posted "this is my last video" type videos several times.
@@keijimorita1849 the thing about Scotty is he loves cars even the new fancy ones but the whole purpose of his channel is to help people who don’t have money to spend on cars that they don’t know how to fix it’s more so for the people who are trying to buy cars that they want to last for a long time so it do seem like he’s switching but it’s for the good of the people
I just received mine today. The SC301 version. I plugged into my CR-V and found 3 issues. One that I knew of already and 2 little things that are easily addressed. Awesome tool! Thank you Mr Kilmer! 👍👍
This is coming with me when I look at used cars. Thank You
I've been binge-watching Scotty's vids for the past week - you've literally got some of the best car repair info on RUclips; making me want to start learning how to be a mechanic lol - keep up the solid work Scotty
The first thing I do when I turn on my computer is start watching more of Scotty's videos. I can't get enough of them. He really knows his stuff!
If my teachers at school were like Scotty back then, they stressed students more and demotivated them, they loose their motivation to learn and faith in themselves, too much drama and lack of humour.
he is barely doing anything hahhaha
Yeah this guy is awesome
Go for it, I just did a tune up of my accord knowing nothing about mechanics thanks to Scotty. Bought the tools needed for the job for less than what the mechanic would charge
Scotty your integrity is impeccable! Thank you for equalizing the rip-off industry in the world of cars that continues to be rampant. Not all mechanics are bad eggs. One shining example is you, that I have infinite respect for! You have mastered the vast subject of car repair, car maintenance, and perhaps most importantly, vehicle reliability. And you explain that mastery with simplicity and rugged transparency that we, the laymen can readily understand. Bless you for your highly-principled disposition in an industry that desperately deserves your common sense understanding of the internal combustion engine! Your information is priceless.
Thankfully Scotty is our advocate in all things automotive. We take a big risk trying to find honest mechanics.
Protect this man at all cost.
I've been a garage mechanic lol for many years and you my friend are a rarity as far as honesty goes. It's always a pleasure to watch your videos. TY
I bought the Ancel AD410 on the recommendation from Scotty. I think it cost me $40 at the time (it's $45 now). Best purchase I made. Had some issues with the transmission. Gave me the code. Googled the code and it completely agreed with what happened to me. Brought it to my mechanic, told him the code. He focused in the transmission, checked with an online, professional forum. I thought it needed new electronics. He found out the circuitry was adjustable. Did some tweaks. Said it should make it last for a while longer. Couple of thousand miles and it is still going fine with no codes.
The scan tool in this video does seem to be a little cheaper and just as good, if not better.
Can it scan bmw x5 2006 model?? Tqvm
Was the AD410 skin transmission temperatures?
Hi Scotty! Thanks for your informative videos. My current project is a 2006 Jetta with the 2.5 5 cylinder engine. It was my father's last car and has 174,000 original miles. It was driven by our oldest grandson to college for 5 years. It is now sort of a petri dish of parts that are either worn out or on their way out. I bought one of your affordable scan tools today and I am waiting to begin exploration of this challenge. Trying to get the car ready for the next grandson to use. It has some positive aspects. No body rust or dents, motor, transmission and radiator do not leak. It would have been much cheaper to attack problems a little at a time as they occur instead of trying to catch up to 5 years of neglect all at once. I still remember both mom and dad in this car. Memories can be very costly😮
You're our teacher scotty, we love you 🙏
God bless you 🙏
He also recommended a Creader 3001 cheap scan tool. I found one on eBay for $25 brand new. I had a flashing check engine light out of the blue getting onto the freeway. I got off, drove back home slowly and used the Creader 3001 the next morning. Didnt see a trouble code, but looking at live data, I saw that Cylinder 4 was randomly misfiring. I had changed the spark plugs at 105k miles 4 years ago, but wondered when the coils were changed...they never were since i bought the car and the original owner had traded it at 98k. I placed in brand new iridium spark plugs with Duralast platinum coils, drove it for 30 mins...no issues. That $25 Creader 3001 definitely would save me hundreds from going to a mechanic for a full tune up that I can do easily myself!
Oh....its a 2009 Honda Accord LX now having 169k miles and owned it for 6 years
Darn! $35 bucks for a nice little scanner that does all that. Not bad!
I still have my cheap autozone Actron scanner I bought over 6 years ago for $90....
Thank you Scotty! Picking one of these up.
I took Scotty's advice a few years ago and bought the blue driver. It's been great.
Olly Carr TPN TV same guy newer channel
Your overlay pics are a riot! I hate working on cars and learn more about them than I care to but, you help a great deal and a dose of humor helps! Thx Scotty!!
God bless you! A real American for us guys trying to fix our cars. Your educating the young!
Thanks Scotty! I picked one up for $35 ..not much can do anymore far as repair..old guy with beat up back..love your channel!!
I bought a cheap tool about 15 years ago and it only gave you the OBD code (if there was one). No pending codes, data or anything else except you could clear codes. The connector would not fit my Honda so I bought a new inexpensive one. It is much like the one Scotty has in it's vast capabilities. They are improving all the time. You do have to spend more to get ABS and SRS (airbag) and other mfg specific codes.
Where I take my vehicles for repairs They charged $50 to hook up the scanner !!! I bought 1 a couple of months ago !!! Thanks Scotty !!!
You are the engine man. Thank you for all your honest videos.
Thanks Scotty I purchased the scan tool. I have a one owner 2008 Lincoln Town Car that I want to keep going. Never any trouble but want to keep an eye out for problems. Love your Videos. You are a Natural, Meaning most people cannot do the entertainment and be very informative as well. Also you help me save money, that which I do not have lots of.
Scotty!!! I am so happy that you are back!!!! I've had a hard time finding you the last few times that I needed advise and was very sad because you had been my go to, a very good go to for some time. Not sure when you came back because I just learned today when I pulled up RUclips and saw you on my homepage....I was way excited when I noticed that the video was posted within the last 24 hours!!! Now I know where to go! When I have time I will be searching through your videos to see if you have one on how to replace a serpentine belt and tensioner for a 2005 Dodge Neon. I did find a couple videos which were helpful although I'd like to find some more, or at least something with a little more detail. I am not a mechanic although your videos have helped me in the past to correctly diagnose and understand exactly how to take care of any issues that come up for me. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!

Scotty…always the best! No one will ever come close but God bless them for trying.
Scotty is the ultimate multi-brand commentator, but if you have a modern Toyota, The Car Care Nut is your guru. He works for a Toyota dealer, and delving deeper is his hobby. His only downside is the length of his videos - but you get deep insight.
@@brianvogt8125 Big fan of car care nut as well!!
I have an OBDII $ 12 ebay china bluetooth scan tool adapter / transmitter and I use ( free ) torque lite on my android phone.
It works absolutely fine - certainly doesn't "destroy my car" or any other car - how absurd.
It allows code reading - code clearing etc . . ( mechanic 35 years )
My mechanic got that very same scan tool, besides several professional 5K scan tools ,he uses this one next to his vehicle emission test machine, so that his customers don't get screwed by the DMV scanner before & when getting tested ,if it's not ready, he doesn't bother to inspect & test the vehicle so his customers don't get screwed by the state! Honest mechanic, not a greedy one ,that's why he been in business for 4+ decades
Wow, nice. That's what I was waiting for, was small cheap scan tools with almost as many features as the bigger more expensive ones. And it looks like the cheapies have become more functional now. I was aiting for a small cheap one that exceeded what my stupid old CarMD basic thing could do that I got for free. And now they can, very cool.
@The Real VR I meant "more than previous cheap small code readers". Of course, it doesn't have all the features of the bigger more expensive ones. That was also not my point, my point was you are getting more features now in these cheap scanners=that's awesome.
FOR $20 EDIAG YA201 IS VERY GOOD.
My nice little £35 scan-tool has a Special Feature when plugged into my 2001 Golf 1.6; It shows the code, great. So I fix the fault. Then I clear the stored code. That's the point when it flashes up 'So you think you've fixed it, do you? Well, here's another code for ya, Buddy!'
This is exactly why I have a scan tool in both my cars, so if I break down, I'II know what's wrong B4 the tow truck gets there! 😲
Anytime my car makes a noise I dont like I just turn the volume up louder 💯🤙🏻
Hahaha 🤣
Same
Guaranteed fix😂
I must say, because of your review, the price has gone up a little in July of 2022. It is still a great value, I plan on keeping my car as long as I can.
Certain scan tools should be made illegal, such as the ones featured on "CastrolzAuto" channel
Great info thanks I picked this unit up myself.
The vehicle I need it for is a 1994 Toyota pickup but the unit says for 1996 and up. I didn't see that I'm guessing it'll not work with my year.
The only problem if u know the code, and u go to the stealer ship, they still want to check it for themselves. And charge you an arm and a leg, Therefore I try to fix it myself and save some $$ I hope. Could use one like this, great information!
I will buy one of these scanner for my grandma....she is crazy about working on cars. She probably has better scanner but it still will be a good little present ☺️
Yep, I'm still using the cheap scan tool I bought from Walmart 15 years ago for about $30 lol.
Scan tool at Wally World has come down in price since 30 year's ago lol
@@catslivesmatter1268 I'm sure if they were to sell the exact same model I use, it would cost around $5 lol.
? Is, how many carZ u’ve gone through in thozE yRs
@@davidwong825 I've lost count but I sure wish I had them today , my first vehicle was a 55 Chevy , second car was a 57 Chevy and went down from there to probably over 58 vehicles including all the cars we considered as lot cars that you could pick up for 20 to 50 bucks , I even had a 56 Buick that you had to pull on the shifter to engage the starter , they were built back then , no plastic or electronic stuff the only improvement I could see was from the vacuum powered windshield wipers to electric ⚡ , and from the pump action windshield washer to electric
I've never had an "emissions inspection" in my life, thankfully my state doesn't require it
Thank you Scotty for all the great information! You're my favorite go to!
Thank you Scotty. You have opened my eyes and given me so much knowledge. I am forever grateful.
I bought the SC301, I've cleared the check engine light from O2 sensors I replaced both car runs great now, with no check engine light.
“The cats okay” 🤣
The world needs more ppl like Scotty
OBDWiz software + cable installed on my laptop gives me everything I need to troubleshoot my Ford cars. Software + cable + optional Ford package = $75. Before I put the car in the shop I know exactly what is wrong & I give a printout to the mechanic. This way I don't get ripped off.
I've learned 2 months before inspection due I check codes n get it inspected if ready. If not ready I have a little time to get it repaired
It's like my scan tool very cheap but gives you the info needed so you don't get ripped off or can fix it yourself definitely invaluable piece of equipment to have around.
This scan tool sounds like a good deal.amazing information from an HONEST mechanic lol
Got one! Awesome with zero issues on my 2011 Jeep.
Over a hundred scan tools? Scotty, I’ll take one of those off your hands - send one my way! 😁
I will also take one you do not need as well! Future aspiring DIY mechanic.
Maybe you should call him and he'll give you one. Maybe he'll send you a bag of money too.
Where did you find it for $35??
The lowest price I could find was $46. The same price as their 301 model.
Jack
I still use my old orange Actron! 15(?) years old. Live data intrigues me, but wouldn't know how to read it.
I've seen check engine light bulbs removed, blown n wire cut to them. Or in some cases I've seen people buy cars with check engine lights on. Things u see at working at shops
Not bragging, but I work at a great company. I drive a long way to work. I have check engine light coming on. Mentioned it to a few people. Showed up one day, a code reader was on my work bench
Had my Bluetooth obd2 for a couple years. Best $25 I’ve spent

Really like this guy, reminds me of when I was young, got an 2006 kia rio lx with 217.000 and p2097 code just came up. Looking for cheap scan tool to see what o2 sensor needs to be replaced. or gas cap.
Whoa this might be better than the alcatel i was looking at. Just what im looking for as its annoying going to waste time at the parts store for a scan.
OK Scotty, you convinced me, I need one! thanks.
Now THAT was valuable information !
Even us REGULAR folks can understand.

Yes, it is around 359.00 but to me, that is cheap enough if it does what The Car Nut shows.
You recommended the Thinkcar scanner for $35 a while back, so I bought it. Now this one does way more for $35. I don't know if I can afford to keep up with you! But your still my favorite mechanic, so I won't hold it against you.

A $20 Bluetooth OBD reader and host of android apps, some free and some paid, will do the same. I went through half a dozen until I found live data included in the free version. But for simplicity sake that tool is probably a good choice.
Hi Scotty, do you feel this is a better value compared to the Blue Drive you recommended a few years back?
