Fort Ord basic training circa 1970 I would put on the local radio station to listen to in the barracks when we were getting dressed and this song came on and you could hear a pin drop as everyone listened, feeling the pain of separation from home in a special way. Timeless.

I remember driving to Fort Ord in the spring of 1970 with my friends. Two guys got into a physical fight over me. The troublemaker was drunk and became belligerent because I wasn't interested in him, and instead chatting with other sob nice guys.

They sound so good. Too bad Shirley and these ladies no longer sing together as the Shirelles. I loved these women/girls and remember them as if it was yesterday. My God, has it really been 4 decades?
It is heartbreaking when you think of how much joy so many singers of that era brought to millions with their performances yet many received very little in compensation. However, they shall always be gratefully remembered in the hearts of their fans with the fondest of memories.
