The best part I love about windows 11 is that it made it possible thanks to Valve to transition over to a distro of Linux. I tried Linux Mint then went over to Nobara because of the nvidia driver and HDR support.

I would say that market share is cause of companys upgrading :D

What about the overall Desktop OS? How many W7 moved to MacOS or Linux instead of upgrading to W10/11?
And there are more complicated scenarios. E.g. I myself run W11 in dual boot, launching it atm about once a month. My main OS has become Linux (OpenSuse) for home works, media and gaming - just getting away from the spyware giants.

And Linux/Chrome OS are around 8% of the total desktop market! Can't stand Microsoft and their mandatory data collection and random UI changes with every update.

Yay my OS is at 2.95%. Go Windows 7. The only reason I use Windows 10 is because Steam no longer supports Windows 7, so I use Windows 10 to play my Steam games.Don't much care for Windows 10. But that's my choice. I use Win 10 for banking and such. I use my Windows 7 on a VPN router and Malwarebytes Premium Plus. No OS is immune from viruses and being compromised. Even Linux is vulnerable. Mac as well.

Don't wanna upgrade to W11.... going straight to the Linux route instead!

My rig doesn't support Windows 11 even if I wanted it, which I don't. I've been on Linux Mint for over a year now and it works well for the most part. I have two main issues with using Linux: The first is that there is no native way of playing bluray discs due to the fact that Sony owns the rights to the methods used for decrypting the discs for playback, and they require licensing fees to integrate them into software. There are still technically ways of playing blurays on Linux, but they each have their own issues and aren't as straightforward as putting the disc in and watching it.
The other issue I have is that I play certain games (visual novels) which have embedded videos that rely on the presence of Windows Media Player. The games are still playable, but without Windows Media Player you don't get the full experience.

@@darkprinc979 I don't know what your system specs are but the most common reason for W11 to not support even some newer rigs is the lack of TPM (Trusted Processor Module) 2.0. If that is the case for you, there are some neat hacks to bypass that requirement and upgrade to or install W11 in yours. Also there are some custom third party compact W11 builds available like Tiny11, AtlasOS or ReviOS that do the same thing and sometimes may even run better than official W11 as they got rid of all the bloatware, telemetry, ads, etc baked in the official version.
As for Linux Mint and BluRay issues… Can’t really help you there as I don’t use BluRays. Have you tried VLC? If that doesn’t work you could ask for help in the official Linux Mint/Ubuntu/Debian forums. I have been using Mint Cinnamon 21 (21.3 now) for quite a while and I haven’t faced any issues playing anything and for the most part I use VLC for everything (Celluloid and MPV are great but not really my thing) and I also mostly use Stremio+RealDebrid for watching streaming videos nowadays.
And about those visual novel games of yours… Where are you playing those from? Steam? Have you tried running them on Bottles or Lutris? Steam usually does a good job these days running most windows games on Linux almost flawlessly using Proton+Wine+DXVK etc. Check your games on ProtonDB and SteamDB if they run well on Linux. If nothing works, you can try running them on Windows 10/11 inside a virtual machine like QEmu or VirtualBox. That could be a good solution since visual novel games are usually not that demanding or resource hungry and should have no issues running inside a VM.
Apologies if this reply seemed too long and incoherent. English is not my first language. Peace.

Every Windows after XP hogs RAM, takes up an unnecessary amount of storage and grows over time eventually eating all your storage even when just sitting idle and not online without installing anything, Windows just eats storage for no reason, and has constant drive activity that needlessly ruins HDDs and SSDs. Vista and 7 seem good by todays standards simply because of how bad Windows has gotten since
