    A friend took me to see her perform in the early 90's at a 200 seat recital hall just before Little Earthquakes came out. I was in the second row, about 10' from her, eye level, and she delivered most of LE and many of the b-sides (Sugar, etc.) that would become the soundtrack to my life. Just tore me open, I was never the same after that. Hearing these songs all for the first time - LIVE, before some of them were even recorded - was incredible, every song a complete world unto itself. And her stories between songs, of course... And the room was completely SILENT while she played, which was never true on any later tour, unfortunately. Still the greatest concert of my life. Thank you Tori. I'm so grateful to have been alive while you are!

    • @le_th_
      @le_th_ 2 года назад +52

      She knows how to tell a story, and not a shallow story, but deep, difficult, emotionally evocative stories about things that most people don't want to talk about, much less hear about.
      The way she plays piano is immediately recognizable by those familiar with even just a few of her songs. She plays with passion and, at times, almost possession.
      Her entire oeuvre is really quite extraordinary. There is no one like her, that's for sure. She plays gorgeously and there is a soothing, almost "safe" sound to her voice? I'm not even sure what that means exactly because I've never described someone's voice as "safe". It is different than 'reassuring".
      She really is an amazingly talented artist, storyteller, and musician. I suppose if I had to describe her to someone 15 years older, or 15 years younger (than me), I might say Tori Amos is the Joni Mitchell of my/our generation.

    I met Tory Amos in 1998 at Caines ballroom in Tulsa Oklahoma, I was able to get backstage from a friend who's dad knew the owner, I was so star stuck to be in her presence. She came over and spoke to me like I was the only person left in the world, she genuinely cared about what I had to say. I have never in my whole life felt so important.... I rode that high for years and years. I could be having a horrible day and would rememberer how I felt at that moment and my day would instantly get better. This kindness is not only rare amongst the famous but everyday people. The world is a much better place with her in it.

    It's extraordinarily hard to have a piano style instantly distinct from all other pianists on earth. It's also hard to have a voice instantly distinct from all other voices. Somehow, Tori has both. About as original and singular as musicianship gets.

      If you listen closely to keyboardists, all have a "distinct" sound even when performing the same piece. I am a fan of players like Lyle Mays, Chick Corea, Keith Emerson, George Duke, you can hear a familiarity in all of their styles. I always like Tori,'s sound, and vocals, and her mastery, and also the great mic setup on her piano here, makes the performance here stunning.

    I worked one of her early shows in Pittsburgh where i was a P.A.
    at a cafe/restaurant to a room of less than 100 people. As a straight woman, I can say with confidence that I’d never seen a person who was so hypnotic, sexy and showstopping as Tori was. Tori plays "Baker Baker" here a half step lower than the recording. She's never done this on her many live releases of the song, nor does she typically change keys of things other than for medley purposes. I like the change - it's one of the best versions she has ever played. Her voice resonates differently now (after "29 years"), and some of these songs can find a new life with a slight transposition.

      It's done in her studio, and the mic placement is amazing for her lead in to "Baker Baker", its great to hear the power of the low tones of a properly produced piano recording.

      A piercing performance, very sad notes can be heard, as if Tory is sad for the times when “Baker Baker” was written, or so it seemed to me.
      And yes, the piano sounds divine.

      Ditto! Pele was my first album-saw her MTV unplugged show which opened with Blood Roses and couldn’t get it out of my head. Have been a fan ever since! She’s still writing amazing stuff. Saw her in 2015 (?) and was right up in front of the stage, it was great! Was bummed to see the new slate of US shows didn’t include Miami, but I get it. Knowing how much the pandemic affected her, as well, has made her music resonate even more with me (didn’t think that was even possible!)
