Got the same model in the same color a while back, just kinda doin the routine purchase justification rounds. So far so good. Got the thing after bein a bit nostalgic for my old 1300 I wish I never sold, and seein that mossy mavericks started sellin more expensive then they used to as you could usually find them somewhere at 188.88 year round and was in the market for a pumpaction so for not much more than a maverick took a chancevand bought it despite its Turkish manufacture and haven't been dissapointed yet. Like most pumps is possible to shortstroke it but the easy action makes that harder to do as there isnt really any hump in the action to make you think its all the way open when you're burnin through old cheapo AA rounds as fast as possible mainly just tryin to look cool. Is just a neat little gun. Still tryin to find the same rhythm had with my 1300 when I was younger, but thats on me. Used to almost slightly exagerate the recoil rise then drop that same as comes stock now truglo snapon the bead fiber front sight (thinkin mans red dot... Well green on mine)on the target in a consistent motion that worked with 2 3/4 target to magnum 3" buckloads at a pretty dang steady clip that makes me wish you still got one more round in the tube, like my old 1300 defender (cother than the cost of quality shells these days). But has a 3/4 inch shorter barrel too and just seems to feel lighter overall in hand. Sadly and obviously dont have the 1300 here or probably wouldnt have bought this and just an od green can of rustoleum instead but would be neat to see the other subtle differences it got over the years. All in all is a great gun and a good choice even versus some fancier models have handled over the years and glad got this over the maverick as at least out of the box fitment seems better and if it lives up to my old 1300s reliability will be a beast. Wanna get the longest barrel I can get for it with some tight choke and see how it handles larger sized steel shot as a possible bird gun. Almost bought a slug barrel for it a while back but after looking at the cost of some of the loads I used to enjoy just ended up buyin a .450 bushmaster Ar upper instead since quality ammo for that always seems to be on sale way cheaper than a lot of comparable bigger bore "brushgun" loads like 45/70, .500 beowulf, either .460 or .500 s&w etc. Was astounded how much remington 4 buck went up in price. Ordered a couple boxes of it towards the end ofcovid that were double what I paid before and I just cancelled it since had been on backorder for almost 7 months with no end in sight only to see it went up another 5 bucks in that time for a box of 5. Just ridiculous
I have a couple other rifles I've painted the furniture on but there is an advantage when they come that way as the pigment runs all the way through material so when worn or scratched it remains the od color. I continue to like this shotgun more and more just added another reason to like it regarding length. It fits in 90 liter dry bags I use in my canoe. I have some reasons personal to me just as you have. Thanks for the response.
I don't know how it compares to others but I really like it. I got from Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BFVDR7C7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Are Remington shotguns made overseas now ? I have had 3 wingmasters all made in the USA . A couple Mossberg 500s also Amercia made. I did read something about the Maverick having parts made in Mexico but I'm not certain.Doesn't seem like we make much here anymore . With that said this is a nice looking lightweight . My only two concerns is will it hold up well and if I can get the screw in chokes shown in the video but without the holes or if not then the invector tubes .This makes this thing very appealing for multiple uses. I can see it as a decent rabbit gun in the thick stuff for example, or something light and quick for close range deer hunting.
Hi, I type too much, I know, so no need to read this whole post if you don't have time. The TLDR is at the bottom, I have a few quick questions if you or your subs have the time to answer any of them. I'm 54 yrs old, hadn't owned a shotgun since I owned a break-barrel when I was 13 - until the Canadian laws changed - then I got interested in cars & girls, haha. I missed having guns around, I loved shooting over the years, but as a hobby. I got my gun license about 8 months ago, and I'm slowly hoping to build up a collection. I'm on a bit of a budget, so my plans are to get a lever action (44mag) and a top quality hunting rifle + scope. WHAT I GOT What I do have is a cheap 22LR, and I just this week got a Winchester SXP 'Shadow Defender", which is a ridiculous name, but it's all in matte black & I love the molded pistol grip. It was made in Turkey as well. I consider American to be "local", so I try to buy local when I can. If I have to pay a tariff, though, I'll have to buy my firearms from the Italians & the Finns. OLD MAN, BEGINNER VIBES I haven't used a pump shottie in 25yrs+, so I bought a 6 pack of snap-cap type 12ga dummy rounds to practice. I'm not in the wilderness, I'm in a city, so I have to go to a range with this one. I have a friend with a big basement in a rural area, so I go over to shoot the 22 at a woodpile & various basic targets - but only small calibers. Mostly 22, but occasionally he takes out his 223, which is older than I am. Suppressors of any kind are illegal here (don't EVEN get me started complaining about that), but the guy whose basement we use for target practice is a cop so he's got a few he made as a hobby (his dad was a gunsmith). We sometimes bolt one of those suppressors on & shoot subsonic, and 710fps, 835fps are hilariously quiet. No hearing protection needed. He's got this huge basement, so we have a good maximum of ~40meters (44yds) to target, perfect for 22LR. PUMP EFFORT You are correct about short pumps, I've been shooting different guns most of my life, at ranges & when I travel to the USA, I usually go to an indoor range & shoot the guns I'm not allowed to have up here (AR-15, Glocks). I know the actions on most firearms & find them all pretty easy to use, but something I totally forgot over the years, is that it takes pretty deliberate effort to rack & extract a pump shotgun. I'm going to get good with this shotgun - but with a 18.5" barrel, I know it's best suited as self-defense & bear defense. BEARS! I will be spending some time in British Columbia, in an area bears are known to get ornery - one of the main reasons I got it. My friends in BC think I'm nuts for wanting to carry a 12ga, since bears "usually just run away". I do not subscribe to that attitude. If I'm not an apex predator, the apex predator's whim isn't gonna do me in. I saw restricted police footage of a trail cam picking up a bear mauling & I've been at the scene of accidents with grotesque injuries, I keep my head - but this attack was as disturbing as anything I've ever seen. The guy was screaming while the bear slowly ate him. His wife was apparently nearby, fortunately unconscious while this was going on. I don't hate bears. I respect them & their habitat & their cubs. But I've seen what these emm-effers can do, and being from Alaska, I'm sure you know very well. TLDR: QUESTIONS I do have a couple of questions about the SXP: 1. Did you disassemble it & lube it before using it? Should I? 2. The choke seems stuck, in that I can't unscrew is with the provided choke removal tool, at least on hand power. Should I use a wrench to try to break it loose? 3. I bought two boxes of steel shot ammo: [Remington 2.75", 1375fps, 1+1/8 oz of #2 shot], and [Winchester Xpert Waterfowl 2.75", 1550fps, 1+1/16 oz of # 3 shot]. Is there anything I should do with the choke before using those? Note that I'll be shooting paper, not animals/humans. 4. I have no reason to use 3" shells - should I at least try them? 5. What about slugs? Should I remove the choke if I'm using a slug round? I assume they're accurate to around 50 yards or more, even with the 18" barrel, correct? 6. I'm looking for a rear sight that will work with the glowing stick at the front. I don't mind a red dot sight if I don't have to hold it up perfectly, but I'd rather something metal or at least low profile. Liking your channel so far. Happy new year!
As far as bear advise online, I'd refer you to the Alaska Department of fish and game @www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=home.main for the most credible information I've found. I made the mistake of buying a lever action in 44 magnum that only weighed 6 pounds. The recoil was brutal! The best advise I can give for bear defense is to get the most powerful firearm you can handle effectively. A quick follow up shot is necessary and even target shooting I make a practice of rechambering a round instantly. 12 gauge shotguns are used by the Alaska state troopers, woodsmen that can't afford anything better or guys like me that just want to save wear and tear on more expensive firearms when bear encounter risk is lower. It will get the job done. The chokes that come with your shotgun are the same bore as the barrel and need not be removed for slugs. As far as it being stuck I'd soak in penetrating oil using care not to strip the end of it and if that did not work apply heat to it. To avoid the problem in the future get chokes with compensator that you can just slide a screwdriver through to twist off. I only use the 2 3/4 shells myself for that quick follow up shot. Slugs increase range but at very close range shot is very close together and still effective. I've heard stories of bird hunters defending themselves with bird shot at very close range. You can settle that debate for yourself and have some fun blowing things apart to make that determination.
@@backacresalaska2272 Thank you very much, I appreciate the time you took to answer my questions. I considered a 45-70 lever action & still might, but the cost of that ammo is insane. I hear you about the recoil on a lighter rifle. Was thinking maybe a 30-30 would be a good compromise between a 44mag & 45-70 - but I know it's quite a different round. I'll do some more research on what caliber, but I do know I want a lever action. Those things are just too fun! I'll sample some different 12ga rounds & see what I like best. 18" barrel isn't gonna win any accuracy contests > 50yds anyway so I'll probably stick with shot. I'll have to try a slug or two though, shotguns are too versatile to be depriving myself of that. Try to have a good winter, I might not know cold like you do, but here on Canada's east coast, we're at least colder than Moscow if that's bragging rights!!

@@Gclown666 all the way in the chamber or magazine? It is Chambered for 2 3/4 and 3 inch not 3 1/2. Loading magazine can be difficult if loading from below with shot gun in upright position. Turn sideways or upside down to load. It's a matter of being at the right angle but mine has been getting easier the more used. Proper angle not more force worked for me. Hope that helps.
Just posted my shooting experience
If you don’t mind me asking, where’d you get the strap and what brand and name is it? Thanks
I got it off Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PPNFXJQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s02?ie=UTF8&th=1
Was it easy mounting the pick rail?
Easy. 4 small screws that plug the hole are removed then replaced with 4 longer screws that hold the rail.
Thanks for the video, about to order one think I'll go OD green to.
Where did you get the mounted light for it?
Amazon
My wife wanted a shotgun as well but I went with a 20 gauge for her.

Almost bought a slug barrel for it a while back but after looking at the cost of some of the loads I used to enjoy just ended up buyin a .450 bushmaster Ar upper instead since quality ammo for that always seems to be on sale way cheaper than a lot of comparable bigger bore "brushgun" loads like 45/70, .500 beowulf, either
.460 or .500 s&w etc.
Hello sir where is the scope from ?
It was a gift from Ivarr Bergman @ruclips.net/channel/UC6i9JrJre_LGNu5C2aTOEfA
great video
Nice review, and I like the after
what light model is that?
I don't know how it compares to others but I really like it. I got from Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BFVDR7C7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Most shotgun manufacturers are going overseas for their factories and cheaper labor. Mossberg and Remington are no exceptions.
Not too long ago I bought a Savage I didn't learn was made in China until I got home. I traded it off.
I can assure you mossberg and remingto are made in USA all their guns are.
I can see it as a decent rabbit gun in the thick stuff for example,
or something light and quick for close range deer hunting.
What's the rail called for the flash light

I have the Defender in OD green and the trench gun.
WHAT I GOT
What I do have is a cheap 22LR, and I just this week got a Winchester SXP 'Shadow Defender", which is a ridiculous name, but it's all in matte black & I love the molded pistol grip. It was made in Turkey as well. I consider American to be "local", so I try to buy local when I can. If I have to pay a tariff, though, I'll have to buy my firearms from the Italians & the Finns.
OLD MAN, BEGINNER VIBES
I haven't used a pump shottie in 25yrs+, so I bought a 6 pack of snap-cap type 12ga dummy rounds to practice.
PUMP EFFORT
You are correct about short pumps, I've been shooting different guns most of my life, at ranges & when I travel to the USA, I usually go to an indoor range & shoot the guns I'm not allowed to have up here (AR-15, Glocks).
TLDR: QUESTIONS
I do have a couple of questions about the SXP:
I would also like a silencer
