People have little sense when it comes to high voltage. They just don't seem to understand you can be electrocute and never make contact with the wire itself. In a storm and afterwards the ground is saturated. Water is a conductor of electricity. You could be 15 ft away and be electrocuted. I live in Florida, I've seen neighbors out after a storm trying to move branches, standing in puddles, with a wire down a bit away. I've wondered why they just wont accept this is a real possibility. The same goes with tossing fuel on a fire. You might have done it a hundred times, but it's never 100% safe, and one flash fire, and your life is changed or lost. I blame the governing bodies for this. They advertise about safety and what to avoid, but never go deep into reason they see deaths like this with nearly every big storm event.
You definitely got that right , Especially when the ground is wet , Lord knows how far that electric current can travel One time I saw a report on the news about a person being electrocuted from a downed power line , The ground was wet and the downed power line was a half mile away
Why would you mess around on a stormy day to tinker with electric wiring. If you living in the hood then you know who your local hustler is who operates as the broke man's dte company. His hustle was illegal hookups for folk. And they made good money although risking death each time he scampers up a pole. Same for these deadly gas explosions. Those are illegal hookups gone wrong. Every neighborhood had it's michcon in da hood hookup artist. Even some homeowners use them. But when they screw up they usually blow up nearby homes. These guys make money. You see many guys actually want the copper wiring. They chop off what they want. Find an alley or such and burn off the shielding on the wires. Then take the copper to scrap yard. That's a decent chunk of change. The reason you don't find many of these guys nowadays is because of the lethality of the lighting and phone towers and cameras and all kinds of sensors. Too dangerous to be fumbling around. He may have been scrounging around for copper. Because who goes out in a rain storm to tinker with high voltage electrical lines.
The wires on top of utility poles in a residential neighborhood carry 13,200 volts and in some of the comments posted , That high of voltage will jump out at you , That you don't even have to touch it to get electrocuted , Yes electricity always looks for the easiest path to the ground but it doesn't go into the ground right at the point of contact , It spreads out as it goes into the ground , and travels very far when the ground is wet , One time I was at my buddy's house in Cleveland and there was a bad windstorm and we saw 3 high voltage power lines snap and he asked me what the number is to the power company and I told him to call 911 , I'm familiar with high voltage and knew to stay at a safe distance I went to the area to keep pedestrians away because alot of them walk through there until the power company showed up to make the scene safe I told my buddy anytime you see a downed power line , That's a 911 call If that would have been my house where that downed power line is , I would not have stepped outside because the ground was wet Never take chances with electricity
Those wires don't carry 220 volts, that's only for the poll to the house, but the wires from poll to poll carry 40,000 volts!!! They will Fry you instantly!!!

Never take chances with electricity
They tried but they still not gone cut the trees down
That's why you have generators all the kids and adults stay in the house call for proper help don't try to be superman rest up to the victim.
Noooo
Rest in peace. Don’t play with electricity if you DONT have the proper training and PPE
The only people with proper training are DTE employees. If you aren't DTE stay the hell away from a downed wire!!
