wont be ten years before the grandkids in there, i was out doing the piggery corners and straw in the bedding bits from around 7 , used to love doing it, would have been 11ish i recon before i was driving the mf165 and loader , always supervised mind .the joys of a laxer time rules wise the mid 70’s
I do like a Pitch Fork. On the farm I had one with a thinner and longer than normal Ash Handle, the prongs were thin and long too. Ideal for my stature, used it everyday for bedding. It just worked. Come Harvest I could use it all day loading small bales up to 10 high on a trailer. Have one today which is OK but I do miss that Ash one.
Alot off maybe and a lot of done off work. Good lunch, that is a relax Sunday for this famous farmer. If the grand kids and their mom or an aunt get in to spread the straw. That must be on video. That is fun for later..
Little darling,it's been a long cold lonely Winter, little darling it feels like years since it's been here, here comes the sun, here comes the sun and I say, it's alright!
Well.. we have a strawchopper/spreader since a month or 2. Don't really see a saving in straw (yet?). Could be the straw this year? Also in time.. not really saving either in one shed. In the other shet a lot. But it's due to amount of straw, size of the barn, and distance to the straw storage to reload (it's a small spreader for a 2.8t loader). But it does save in blood sweat and tears for those who have to spread 😅😂. This is for a horse farm. Around 35 boxes we can do with it. Every week we empty it. And every 2 days we have to spread some straw. With 6000euro (ex vat) it wasn't too bad for a new machine. 😊

Hi Farmer P ☺️ Those sheep have the most beautiful horns(antlers almost). Stunning markings and shading on them. Must have cost Sam a pretty penny because they look like they are out of the top drawer £😅£ As a matter of interest are those horns a heavy load to carry around or are they almost weightless and just a nuisance when negotiating corners and narrow spaces ? As we are at the end of another year, I would like to thank you , Farmer P, for the amazing number and quality of videos you have consistently produced, on a daily basis. The thought just crossed my mind ; are you the only RUclips farmer that produces a daily video🤔. That would be another notch in your list of achievements, Farmer P 👍😃 Wishing you and your lovely family that 2025 is full of good health, good luck, good crops, healthy livestock, that Rosie stays and that beautiful Dun steer (such a lovely reminder of Patrick), all the dogs and cat keep in good health. Also, a retraction of the ridiculous Inheritance Tax and a cull on badgers living on farms with livestock. All the best, Farmer P and a hug for Biskit 🐕🩷🤗

As you mention YOUR [future] grand children, you may have mentioned, but are YOU a grandchild. I feel you are a child. Which you are worried about the current farm and are preparing it for your, current children {girls} AND current and future gran children to dispose of it.
Happy animals MR, P spreading straw will keep you healthy and good for the heart as well.
I love spread straw by hand with a fork. And when I was a kid well we had loads if pigs to bed up but they loved to do themselves .
Excellent update - farm always looks great when the sun is shining
A very good Tuesday evening to you all
I love seeing the everyday running of your farm
Great stuff. Strawing up with the fork gets the mussels working not as you had a large heard of cattle to use a straw chopper
A straw chopper would mean another bit of kit that could go wrong and it has to be put somewhere.

Always used the 2 prong "pikes" for handling bales and spreading straw.
I need a new handle for mine Chris, No one seems to stock them.
@@FarmerP I come from a era of farm laborers, small bales and the biggest tractor on the farm was a MF178. A lot more manual labor than nowadays.
@@FarmerP ebay have them. Just need to hunt around. Nice Ash ones.
Got a spare one in my shed
Evening Ian those sheep are pretty ones.

So how much straw, time and back ache must you save to pay back six grand.
@TheByard oh, dont get me wrong, the thing is worth every penny in labour. Just don't see the sales talk of using lessstraw (yet).
