    i had to make a deal a while back with my late g.f watching your videos.. after watching the videos..in the next few days,, i went to the Kiene's fly shop to buy material's that you used tying with... after a few years of watching your videos and a few others,, i had a large selection od stuff... will the deal i had to make with her,., at the point when i had a , one heck of a lot of stuff.. she said.. you can go to the fly shop and buy what ever you want...so sweet of her.. then the other shoe dropped.. with her sweet little Chinese smile that she had.. she would whisper in my ear... then you take me shopping... i thought it was a great deal....i wish i could still make that deal.... but this is a great fly.. going to Bodega bay soon.. will try this fly, thank you

    Wonderful. I wonder if that might have helped with my Permit deficit. I've chucked at quite a few, and never had so much as a take. Most head for the door marked 'exit.'

      Thank you. I do believe that most blue water fishermen have a permit deficit!! But they are a somewhat 'stealth shrimp' that become almost invisible when fished, but they have worked well for me...

    Nice shrimp pattern but I have a question, where do you by the organdie decorative ribbon (12mm x 10m)? I am a Belgian Fly fisherman who fishes a lot on Northern Sea Bass in Europoort (Maasvlakte I & II) in the Netherlands and I am looking for a good grey shrimp pattern and I want to try this one.

    Barry Hi! I want to try this fly on an upcoming Bahamas bonefish trip. What colors work best? Also, I read your response to the post regarding getting the hook to ride up. Can this be accomplished with a single flat strip of lead? Placed on top then crapped over the sides rather than 3 separate pieces?

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  Год назад

      Hi Michael, the colours that have worked best for me are pearl (white) and tan (light brown). I wouldn't use flat lead strip because this will go around the whole hook shank. I tend to fold a short length of round lead wire double and tie this in on the underside of the hook shank.

    Barry I am totally fascinated with this pattern. I have a question, can this pattern be tied point up? My grandsons and I are going to Florida this coming year to fish the flats for bones. Thin water and grass can be a problem as you know. Think's so very much for your inspiring talent... stay healthy and best regards. Walter

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  4 года назад +1

      Hi Walter, thank you. Yes you can tie it Up side down! But you have to tie in three lead wire strips before you start the fly, on top of the hook shank. One each side of the hook shank and then one on top in between the two. This will make the hook fish up side down. Good luck, let me know how you get on with it.

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  4 года назад

      Thanks sofaking, Because of the weight of the UV resin on the shell back, the deep gape hook throat and point act as a keel and keep the fly fishing the correct way.

    Hey Barry
    Great video, wonderful shrimp pattern. I was really impressed, I ordered 4 colors of the ribbon and tried to tie one last night. The removal of the vertical threads kicked my butt. Nothing I could do unless I removed them one at a time. They kept getting hung up on the horizontal fibers.
    Did I possibly receive a batch of ribbons that were woven too tight?
    Did you have any problems like this in the beginning?
    Thank you,
    Ron C
    Ruskin, FL

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  4 года назад

      Hi Ron, Thanks. Once you have cut your strip of ribbon, try starting to strip the vertical threads start from the short end and work your way into the longest strands, this always works well for me. I'v never had any woven too tight!

    just a note on salt water fly..dont use stainless steel hooks.. they will last forever in a fishes mouth,, a regular hook will rust out in a few months. .less damage to a fish,, after using, this fly in salt water on a regular hook, just wash it well in fresh water, and let dry..i have seen sharks etc.. with multiple stainless hooks in it mouth......

    Beautiful little shrimp! Will it still swim correctly with all the resin built up on top?

    • @Thefeatherbender
      @Thefeatherbender  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Henry, yes the choice of hook is paramount to retain the correct attitude in the water. The Mustad C47 shrimp is a short shank deep gape so it functions as a keel.
