    Song:
Over this whole world (oh yeah oh yeah)

    The war in Afghanistan?
    The ******* fault!
    The dictatorship in Iran?
    The ***** fault!
And earthquake, flooding and everything else horrible? That "wine and sprite" and "Saab" and "Volvo" is not even Swedish?
Yes it is the ****** fault! (The ****** fault!)
The ****** fault! (The ****** fault!)
The world is one fire and it's the ****** fault
My son with hunting rifle four people shot to death, somehow I can feel it was the ***** fault
Divorces and alcoholism (the ***** fault!)
Parking attendants and atheism (the ***** fault!)
That the youth nowadays never learn *respect/discipline* ((old slang word that kinda means that, also "shame"))
That schlagerfestivalen(melodifestivalen/Eurovision) nowadays never want to end
Yes it's the ***** fault! (The ***** fault!)
The ****** fault! (the ****** fault!)
Everything is upside down and it's the ***** fault
My upbringing have made it that I probably never can be psychologically whole
But my family is in agreement it's the ***** fault
    Crazy fundamentalist (the ****** fault!)
Every conflict in world history (the ****** fault!)
And religious grounds/foundation/bases we go to war kill and fight
But the debt/fault that it is like that, don't fall on us
No it's the ****** fault (the ****** fault!)
The ***** fault! (The ***** fault!)
Thereof can we agree it is the ****** fault
One can believe it is Satan himself who play us their game
But even he goes free because it's the ***** fault
Yes it's the ***** fault (the ***** fault!)
The ***** fault (the ***** fault!)
Everything that is wrong, yes it the ***** fault
I've been sitting in front the computer so my neck is stiff (there is no doubt it is the ****** fault!)

Looking at British texts from before and after the vikings conquered parts of Britain, there is a noticeable difference in humour. Since the vikings left precious few texts behind, it is hard to verify though. Everyone in Sweden understands that this is satire showcasing exactly how absurd homophobia actually is.
Something similar could definitely have been made today in Sweden, but of course it would have had to touch on contemporary issues, like trans people rather than gays, the war in Ukraine rather than the War on Terror, and Tesla's attempt to crush Swedish unions rather than lamenting that some companies are no longer Swedish.
About Eurovision Song Contest? The Swedish qualifyer takes place over 6 weeks! _That_ is what they actually allude to here, not the three events over less than a week that is the international contest. (They sing "Schlagerfestivalen", which can mean either the Swedish part of the contest, the international part, or both.)
The kind of Christians parodied here are American-style Evangelicals rather than Catholics, by the way. Not that the Catholic Church isn't against same-sex relationships, but at least it doesn't blame gays for the very existence of all evil.

    • @H.J97
      @H.J97 8 месяцев назад +2

I'd say it's 95% correct, there were a few words that were different in the subtitles but they were changed to something that meant the same. only place where the subtitles didn't translate well would be at 2:55 where she sang that her son went hunting with he's gun, in Swedish she said he shot 4 people but in the subtitle it said he killed a dozen. most of the changed words were to make the subtitles flow work with the lyrics

I would say they are pretty horrible. I personally would never translate the word "bög" with "fag"
Imo "bög" feels like very very neutral and has a pretty neutral connotation, nowhere near the negative connotation that "fag" has

You should see another one they've done which was an interlude in the melody festival (the competition before Eurovision to vote for who will represent Sweden) about 14 years ago. Everyone who saw it was disappointed that they couldn't vote for that song. Know that there was also a lot of political wrangling with Russia after that, they got ridiculously upset.

Yes, SVT = Sveriges Television ~ BBC.
( Denmark: DR, Norway: NRK )
We admire British humour very much over here in Scandinavia, so we are often inspired by it.
We often laugh at the same things as you do in Britain, watch many of your TV comedies, and we use a lot of irony, sarcasm and dark humour as well - although sometimes you really need to explain it to the poor Swedes more carefully 😂 ( Dane here 😉 ).
And Germans typically don't get irony, sarcasm and dark humour at all 😉 - as a certain Basil Fawlty so correctly pointed out. 😂

I don't know if anyone said this before but this but:
This is supposed to look like a "debate program" on SVT (yes, swedish bbc) and for a long time in the 80ies it was run by this crazy christian guy. But this is supposed to look like the 90ies.
The word they are using "bög" is not that offensive today. (I mean, every word is offensive if you say it meanly). Gay people did a great job of reclaiming that word. Today "bög" just means male homosexual, but at the time this video is supposed to look like, it was a little bit "suspect" outside the cities.

For those who dont know. Grotesco are a Swedish teathre group who make comedy and satire. And aparently they got in to deep shit, because of this scetsh. Both from Christians and from homosexuals. (But dominantly from political left wing people, who can't take a joke even if their lifes where on the line.)
