    Pay is $13 an hour and set to be $15 an hour by the end of the year. I imagine most people are here because they also are about to work at Target or have recently started and want to know what to expect. I've worked retail at Walmart for some years so I'll compare it to that. You will do more at Target. Walmart has three people to do every job whereas Target usually only has one person per department maybe two if you're lucky. On top of covering your entire department solo most days they will also expect you to help lacking departments. The lack of people working in the store makes it seem barren. Locating a specific member of management or team member is harder requiring you to constantly be yelling into your walkies. This is because they too are all over the store trying to cover for people. Your training will be a little random and you might feel like you're not learning very quickly due to the low training hours they give. When I started they gave me 9 hours a week for two weeks stretched over 4 days (So about 4 - 5 hours per day) and expected me to have the position down after that. It's a little difficult to get yourself started but once you get the hang of things you find yourself not working very hard at all for the $13 an hour. My best advice would be to pay attention during training and ask questions if you have them. Worst part of the job by far is the training or lack of. Being thrown into your department solo with little to no knowledge of how to do it. I'm sure this is different at other locations but my store is pretty terrible at training people.

    • @vshmo5860
      @vshmo5860 3 года назад

      Training is still pretty terrible. The learning lessons on the zebra says that your trainer should show you the examples and situations from the lessons but they don’t. They expect you to read and learn a weeks worth of training in one day, trainers demonstrate how things go once or twice, and then let you go out solo

  • @jimtryon1560
    @jimtryon1560 3 года назад +8

    You hit on everything about working at Target. I was a Cart Attendant Team Lead and worked as a cashier, guest service, food avenue, and electronics. They really pushed red cards back in 2000 when I first started working for them. I was one of the people who sold the most red cards and had a table with prizes that the guests can pick out after they sign up for a red card. I did not like asking people to sign up for red cards even if I was good at it. You got to the point where you forgot who you asked and you'd ask the same person twice. I got used to cleaning the restrooms and I'd say the worst part of the job was having to do everything because other team members didn't want to do their job and you got called on a lot to pick up the slack.
    It was got called zoning when we were closing. I'm not sure if they still use that term and facing items at the end of the night. I remember not getting out of there until 3am around the holidays because they wouldn't let you leave until everything is zoned. I ended up working there for 3 years and quit.

    Good video. I’m trying to get a lead position. They gave me 65 hours last week. I never get capped at 25 to 30 hours. I always get 40 hours when they don’t allow overtime as well. I’ve worked at 2 targets now and your managers play a huge role in job satisfaction. I got 2 great leads that inspire me everyday to be my best self. They don’t get mad if your a little late but I’m always early. Be willing to learn every department in the store and have a positive vibe or energy when you come in and while your working. My last target couldn’t of cared less. This new one gave me employee of the month and helps me grow. It’s all luck because some bosses can suck. With good bosses I literally have no complaints on the job.

I was thinking about a variety of positions such as stocking shelves and being a cashier. Honestly, I probably recommend working at Target if you can get a Team lead position. I worked at a different store as like a handy man and my friend recommended me to work at Target for a position called "PML" (Property Management Lead). I'm young still (26) so this is a pretty damn good temporary position. The pay is pretty damn good. The only thing is that you have to know how to work tool, be prepared to get down and dirty and have good communication skills (you'll have to work with vendors a lot). My first 2 weeks on my own after training was horrible and super stressful. I had a RANDOM fire inspection from the fire department on my first day alone. The next day I had a pipe leak from our water system. That was so bad because the training doesn't prepare you for emergencies like that. The people you train with (hopefully) are the best and their store is on point and pretty damn perfect. Also ASK TO BE TAUGHT THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I asked to be taught how to do tile, some plumbing (sink wise, and using an auger) and how to change a ballast. The schedule is great, Mon-Fri 6am-245pm. Once you learn and get used to the position, it's pretty fucking cake. Just follow what the iPad says to do, make your store look great (change fucked up tiles, change ceiling tile, patch the roof when there is leaks, ACTUALLY DO THE HIGH DUSTING etc.) Also, be damn sure people see you do your work, so you don't get the stupid comment like "PmL dOeSnT dO aNyThInG!1!1!!!1" also another tip, always have extra shirts and pants just in case plumbing goes wrong 😂
