    Got 2nd place in a toho tournament end of summer solely on a white and brown swimming jig with a boottail trailer finished with 24+ pounds on best 5 it can get incredible when they're eating it

    This is one technique that I have not spent a lot of time with Steve. This video made a lot of sense to me. I think I will try it when I got out to the lake again. Who knows what will happen!

    It's hard to go wrong with a swim jig! They are one of my favorite baits for sure. I can have that one bait tied on and get so many different presentations out of it.

      When I first used one it took about 2 hours for it to soar up my list of favorite lures. Definitely a confidence bait now. And so many times those fish just slam it so hard.

    Thankyou, valuable information on applying the swim jig application on the water. Those techniques will be useful on my waters that I fish! Top to bottom, ponds to lakes. Swim jig in bluegill or shad have caught me a lot of quality and numbers. Always have both tied on.

    Swim jig is definitely my go to bait. I started with the great strike king hack attack and the kvd edition at bps also. Loved em. Since then I've started making my own just to get a more dialed in color on my swim jig. Braid feels great but honestly I prefer 14lb Flouro for mine. I feel like I can fish it more efficiently that way I can keep it high or quickly drop to the bottom. And I fish it literally everywhere. Grass rocks docks open water. It just works. Like Jason Christie says it's a finesse spinnerbait. And while everyone else is throwing jack hammers and strike-king out(see what I did there) I'm throwing the swim jig and loading up. Good video God bless for safe travels and great fishing this year. Thanks Steve.

      I did see what you did there! Lol. It is such a versatile lure. I remember when I first started throwing it years ago I was like why haven't I been using this all along. Some great anglers on the Upper Mississippi taught me how to use it. That lure is a staple up there.

      @@SteveRogersOutdoors I always have one tied up for sure. Usually 2 to be honest a shad pattern and a bluegill pattern I find that spring up to the spawn and shortly there after that shad patterns work best. Then summer time comes and the bluegill pattern shines when it turns to fall back to the shad patterns. Love the channel I watch every video. And I love strike king products also. I just learned that mach baits is under the same umbrella as Lew's/strike king. I'd die if I could work for them in the field like you do. Hold on to that job as I'm sure we aren't the only 2 who love em. Thanks Steve.

    I will have to try a swim jig this summer. I kinda forgot about them. Or maybe gave up on them too soon. I know people catch a lot of bass on them. Maybe I just wasn’t doing something right or was using them in the wrong situation. 🤷‍♂️
    Happy fishing 🎣

    The only 3 trailer’s I use;
    Dwalker 120
    Largo Shad 3.5
    Keiteck Fat 3.3-3.8
    The only swim jig I use;
    Dirty Jigs.
    As you can tell, I don’t use craw or creature trailers. And , the only color jigs I use are bluegill and Shad (white ) pattern’s. I have a swim jig tied on year round… I absolutely love em! Extremely versatile!🎣

      When I first started fishing them it didn’t take long at all to be totally hooked. There was even one year that was pretty much all I threw I was so happy with that lure.

      @@SteveRogersOutdoors Ha! Ya, I got away from em for a little while ( so many damn lures out nowadays ) but after consolidating and selling a large chunk of my lures ( the sexy one’s that catch fisherman, not fish ) and went back to fishing the basics, I’m throwing swim jigs again! The simply catch bass!

    Great video Steve I'm using a 7'4" heavy rod for my swim jigs should I use a little lighter rod

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  Год назад +1

      I really like a MH with a moderately fast or fast action for mine. Especially during the swimming portion I feel it helps me not to yank the lure away to quick but there is still enough backbone for when I’m using it on the bottom. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for watching!

  • @robertbrost7777
    @robertbrost7777 3 месяца назад +1

    I feel this is the difference between the swim jig and the chatter bait. I can let the swim jig sink and play it off the bottom. I'd fear the blade on a chatter bait getting hung up.

    What swim jigs do you prefer?

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  Год назад +2

      I have used the Strike King Tour Grade swim jig for years naturally, but when looking for one I like a skirt that isn’t too thick (of course we can always thin it out) and I prefer the ones with the very slender heads. There are a few out there that are a little wider, but still have the swim jig head profile. I just like the very thin jig heads.

    I saw 3X AOY Aaron Martens catching bass in clear water with straight braid using a jerk bait, he said the braid was not spooking the bass at all. 4X AOY David Dudley personally told me braid does not spook bass. Now Steve you say you use straight braid in tainted water.. Perhaps braid only spooks people. LoL !

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  Год назад +1

      That absolutely could be the case. Lol. I know lots of anglers use it in clear water but I just have so much more confidence with the leader - that is until I tie a bad knot.

    • @Surfer-727
      @Surfer-727 Год назад +1

      @@SteveRogersOutdoors That's a good point, even if they are spooked by braid a little in very clear water as KVD and especially Mike Iaconelli say for example, how often do we tie a bad knot, are to lazy to retie, get broken off and spook 1- 12 bass big time with with the boat when we get snagged. LoL !

      Double up? I’ll settle for stating with catching my 1st bass EVER on a swim jig lol. None of the tackle shops I have been in around the lakes in my state have ever recommended a swim jig. No grass? Herring? 🤷🏻‍♂️ idk why. Shaky head, Carolina rig, crank bait, weight less worm or fluke are always the recommendations.
