The higher registration cost is because of the loss in gas tax revenue. This is not the trucks fault, this is the fault of the people you vote into office. Want change that, get different politicians.
Well, I live in Marshfield and I don’t have to pay a wheel tax here but I don’t have a hybrid or EV either. There is a reason I drive junk. As far as our government here in Wisconsin, I have an answer for that…elections have consequences.
Scott Walker's administration passed the additional $85 for registration on hybrids and evs. It just so happened that he lost Governor status before the law went into effect. The insurance this guy cites has nothing to do with being a hybrid, it doesn't matter what HE paid, as far as the insurance company is concerned it's a $30k car.
Wisconsin is in the heart of the "stupid belt". And they're proud of it!
Government imposes rules forcing auto manufacturers to go EV, which costs more. Gov also applies fees when you purchase the EV. It's as if the gov does not want people to drive at all...🤔
They Don't - In Toronto Canada they want you to ride a bike or take transit - except it takes hours to go from one city to another (or days if you ride a bike) The people in charge need a reality check!
Remember that the government is us. Vote them out. It's our government!

Congrats, and welcome to the fall 2023. Insurance has been skyrocketing everywhere. You’re super lucky to be spouting the numbers you are. I also have a Spotless record and can’t find anywhere cheaper than 270 a month for my 2.7L F-150.

Hey, these are all solid reasons for making a good decision to trade to another vehicle. Good for you.. by the way, I had a hybrid Maverick and I sold it because I was having troubles with the engine.. I did love the vehicle. I actually like the way it drove and I actually really like the ecvt. It was incredibly smooth. I would have kept it but you're right you can't customize it the way you can. A body on frame and the taxes and money grab from the state are outrageous. I mean I was only getting 40 miles per gallon. It wasn't like I wasn't paying a gas tax.
They charge more for plates because they don't collect gasoline tax for the electric use portion of your vehicle. Your car does damage to the road like all the gas powered ones do.
Regular(non PEHV) hybrids do pay gas tax on %100 of the energy required to move the car. They should not be burdened with additional fees because their drivetrain is more fuel efficient. that’s like the opposite of what govt should be doing
Right. This gets something like 60% better overall gas mileage than the Ecoboost version. A more fair way would be a tax based on mileage driven per year, but few states are equipped to administer something like that. Someday they will have to be.
@@alexphelps7042 Let's say your car doesn't use any gas. It still puts wear and tear on the roads. Those roads have to be maintained. Therefore you get taxed a different way. Now if your car uses very little gas to go the same distance as other cars that use a lot of gas, you still need to make up for the cost of maintaining the roads. An extra tax for you is more fair.
You're the type that would be surprised if you did a little research and found out that gas tax is spent on everything but roads. Most of the money spent on roads comes from federal funds that come with political strings attached.
@@bridgetrobertson7134 In my state 100% of the state gas tax goes to roads and bridges as per dictated by law. The federal tax is something like 85% to roads and some to transit.
The added cost when I had my civic hybrid to insurance and registration was the reason I chose to go get a VW TDI w/ a manual.
No its not, you bought a VW because you wanted one. The taxes aren't that much more. Not that there should be any taxes on any car anyway.
$130 for insurance is cheap lol! My 2024 ram 1500 bighorn is $270/m plus car tax of $1400/yr plus registration/gas/other fees. I also have a 87 formula 350 (TA clone) and a 78 vette, go third gens!
Like stated by others, insurance has gone up a lot because new cars with all their computers, safety systems, etc. cost a lot more to fix when in a crash. The gas price you pay isn't just for gas it includes taxes which still need to be paid to build/repair roads. You still drive on the roads so you still need to keep paying the tax - you still save money with better mileage (of course all Maverick hybrid owners claim they get 1,000 mpg). So you will still have an insurance issue with another car and still pay road taxes. Seems stupid to sell.
Sounds to me like you made a solid choice based on your circumstances! The real killer is that monthly payment and the insurance cost.
Question I have is do you have comprehensive coverage on your other vehicles? Or do you stick to liability only? I know most vehicles that have a lien against them require you to carry comprehensive which bumps the price up - also doesn't help that mavericks appreciate in value like you said. Auto repair/body repair costs are INSANE now and for new cars insurance rates are increasing because you are far less likely to total a late model year vehicle than something pre-2014, so they are on the hook for pretty minor damages. Bumpers on some vehicles are 3k+ just for the part!
Road maintenance in most states is paid for with the taxes levied against each gallon of gas sold (don't know about Wisconsin). The additional registration fees make sense. There is research out there suggesting that the weight of a vehicle increases road damage by x^4. So a vehicle that is twice as heavy as another wears down a road 16 times more than the lighter one. Since TYPICALLY hybrids and EVs weigh more than their pure combustion counterparts, AND they don't use as much fuel it makes sense that the government is charging more at registration time.
The current fuel tax system was really equitable prior to EVs and hybrids becoming mainstream. You paid more to maintain the roads if you used them more - makes sense. But that methodology falls apart when vehicles start getting more efficient AND heavier.
If I was looking for a fuel efficient comfy commuter I would seek out an AZ or TX Accord. Good luck!
It is not the fault of your Maverick that you are encountering those problems left and right. It is those who are in the government your constituents voted for. Next election, vote wisely.
I thought Ford would offer a better employer discount. I bought my 2002 Firebird Formula brand new. Thanks to my Dad's GM discount, I saved about $4,000 off sticker price. On the plus side, since you're getting rid of this truck, maybe you'll have more Firebird videos...

So, what is the real reason why you sold your Ford Maverick? Apparently, something went wrong with the truck, and it is not because of the cost of your auto loan, insurance, registration etc. My research before I bought my 2023 Ford Maverick Lariat Hybrid, revealed that insurance companies charge more to customers with hybrids because statistically they drive the vehicles more due to the savings.
The Maverick is the bridge to E car, which may come about in 2036, 12 years from now, I got an XLT , I will need another one , by the time of 6 or 7 years from now

You should get about the same fuel economy you were getting with the hybrid with your driving situation, and pay less insurance and government greed tax.
I get 42.6 Average. 50mph city 38.5 Highway. I am hoping your right with my new 2.0 but I won't count on it.

@@fordmaverickmaniac I am a little different with my numbers. I get 42 with my Hybrid and 24 with my FX4. I have noticed that the gears seam different with the 4K tow package than the regular FX4. Correct me if I am wrong. I would really like to know.
California charges $500 registration for EV’s. My 8 year old 1/2 ton truck is still $430 💩

After watching Sandy Munro's review where they inspected the Maverick on a lift, I would never consider one for where I live. The road salt is going to destroy these cheaply-built "trucks." I doubt there will be many on the road near me in 10 years. But the question remains- Why don't Honda or Toyota have an answer to the Maverick?
The maverick is only slightly smaller than Honda & Toyotas medium trucks. And since their foreign brands they have MUCH smaller models that aren’t sold here, they likely don’t wanna make a special intermediate sized vehicle just for a less profitable portion of the NA market.
Move to Florida keep the Maverick. LOL Everything is cheaper here.

the whole hybrid and electric car thing is a giant scam. any new car will cost more in insurance. but they need their road repair money. those vehicles will fall apart in a few years

Everybody has their opinion, as do you. Not everybody can make 6 figures a year! At least he can prioritize other things than just cars! Building a garage, putting a new roof over his two story house that he owns.
