Dr. Axe, I am so grateful for you and how the Lord is using you in your platform. I have been following many of your tips now. Starting with increasing my protein intake throughout my meals and I have finally started loosing stubborn hypo weight I had gained and couldn’t drop. I have already lost 8 pounds in a span of about 2 months also added walks after every meal. Thank you Dr Axe may the Lord bless you and your family 🙏🏼🥹
I agree that protein is the most important macronutrient. You mentioned that protein can help you lose weight because it makes you burn more body fat and feel satiated. But protein can also help you gain weight if you are very thin because it helps build muscle.
I bloom flavour less grass fed beef gelatin in the morning and then put a spoonful of it in my cups of tea or other drinks that I consume during the day. Great and easy way to get your protein and amino acids.
Dr. Axe... my husband passed away back in June from kidney disease and complications from a rare disease called diabetic amyotrophy neuropathy which destroys muscles throughout the body. Since he had kidney disease, stage 5, he was told he had to decrease his protein intake because his creatinine levels were so high, and that caused his Glomular function rate to drop consistently. We were making progress until he wanted to eat what he wanted, and everything went downhill from there. He couldn't do dialysis because of his muscles atrophying, and he had too much scar tissue in his stomach area from when he got attacked by a bore on a bore hunting trip with his feiends when he was stationed in Hawaii..., so dialysis was out of the picture... perhaps you could help me understand why people with kidney disease can't eat protein.... thanks... 😊
As a kidney dietitian I can answer that question. As the kidneys decline they are no longer able to filter out as well a waste product from muscles called creatinine, and it rises in the blood. Protein especially from meats creates waste products when it gets metabolized that the kidneys now have to filter out and that further damages the glomerulus or the filtering units of the kidney. Protein restriction helps to preserve kidney function. But that does not mean that you eat no protein at all and become malnourished. You still have to eat adequate protein but not excessive protein. Once you go on dialysis you will be recommended extra protein.
Beef, full fat Greek yogurt, and eggs are super foods I put into my body each and every day. I also supplement with a high quality whey protein (Naked and Levels are both excellent protein brands with minimal ingredients) I’m about 195 lbs and shoot for 150-200 grams of protein per day. Also supplement with creatine monohydrate!
I grew up in a medical family, my grandparents had lots of protein, but because my family & extended family was in the medical profession, when the low fat study was leaked...all of them switched to low fat...because "why would they study it if is wasn't the best?" Our protein went way down, carbs went up. Since being very sick I have tried ever way of eating. Prioritizing Protein is the only way as a menopausal female I can get enough protein. It has to be protein first and all else is a "nice to have." Get your protein, save your muscles, save your bones!
I do carnivore(more like ketovore) and they say to eat the amount of protein for my IDEAL weight. That would be 160-170. I am at 180 but I have a hard time consuming 160-170 grams of protein. I usually have around 120. Some days more some days less. I will have a small amount of carbs most days.
You can eat your daily protein amount in one meal. New studies found that we can use minimum 100 grams of protein in one sitting without wasting it. Possibly more but minimum 100 grams.
When I have blood work they show how much protein say it small but negative is this protein the same as food protein? Why is this protein showing in blood 🩸 work?
Dr. Axe obviously didn’t select the Premier Protein picture in the video thumbnail.😂 100% he doesn’t recommend GMO soybean oil, not one but two artificial sweeteners, artificial flavors, and synthetic vitamins.
@@tiarianamanna973 This is incorrect. 100 grams of protein, not 100 grams of meat. 3 ounces of chicken breast is approximately 25 grams of protein. So, to hit 100 grams of protein a day, you would need to eat 12 ounces of chicken breast in a day. That would be if you only ate chicken breast alone in a day. Generally, meat the size of a deck of cards equals about 3 ounces/25 grams of protein (roughly).
@@daniellem1838 wasnt that exactly what i said..? 100g protein equals 3.5ounces protein, its called math. U know, an ounce is somewhere around 28g, at least as far as i know. I donno where s the meat in it..? I never mentioned any meat. Why would i? Nobody asked about meat. It was a question about grams n ounces, read urself. Well, i guess it must be complicated to figure out, huh? 😝 Btw i dont get it why people always seem to think protein is meat. Protein is not same as meat. Please educate urself of biological basics. Protein is found in all kinds of foods, believe it or not 🥴
@@tiarianamanna973I'm not sure why you're upset, so I'll not bother with crudeness. If the OP wants 100 grams of the macronutrient protein in a day, and she ate four times a day, she would need 25 grams of protein per meal. The example I gave is chicken breast. If she only ate chicken breast, in order to get 25 grams of protein per meal, each meal of chicken breast would 3 ounces. Of course most people don't eat one food day. That is why people track macros. If she only ate eggs all day she would have to eat about 14 large eggs per day to reach 100 grams of protein. It's not 100 grams by weight, but by macronutrient protein. It all depends on what she eats. The chicken breast was a general example to help her. I believe you were giving her weights, but that isn't the same as grams of protein. If I'm mistaken, I apologize. Yes, I understand math. Have a great day.
Interesting video. The Mayo Clinic advises .8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. I try to limit the amount of carbohydrates, regardless of how much protein I consume. When you talk about kidney disease, does age have an effect? An NIH study of the effect of high protein on cats, showed “Increased dietary protein/calorie intake significantly increased glomerular filtration rate and proteinuria in all cats. However, high protein/calorie intake resulted in significant renal morphologic injury in remnant kidney cats that was prevented by dietary protein/calorie restriction.” I realize cats aren’t people, (except for my two, LOL) but I would presume the basics are the same? You are saying that the protein source is the problem, not the protein itself? That would completely change my understanding of how protein effects the kidneys. Thank you for introducing me to this idea. More “food” for thought. Pun intended!
@@rubenperales3173 There is a study by the NIH, published October 22, 2021, that says, "low protein diets (LPD) have beneficial effects in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The vegetarian-supplemented, very-low-protein diets seem to have an additional positive effect on patient and kidney survival." There are cautions about malnutrition, but that properly supplemented, the diets are effective.
Most people are getting enough protein. The nutrient that most of us are not getting enough of is fiber. It is said that 95% of us don't get the minimal requirements for fiber. You only get fiber from plant foods.
It's not the protein that hurts the kidneys it's diabetes or high blood pressure most of the the time. Once the kidneys are damaged by these diseases then the protein restriction is needed as the patient progresses through the stages of chronic kidney disease.
If you have an Aldi near you, check out their grass fed ground beef for $3.99lb organic eggs and milk. Wild caught fresh salmon. Canned Alaskan wild salmon etc all very reasonably priced
thanks. I'm not speaking for myself. Sorry to say, Probably 70% of the listeners can't afford his "solution" unfortunately over the long term. He basically said no matter how positive, they will fail if not eating organic. And we learn this after 25 mins of content streaming.. hmm.

I was always told that you need half your weight in grams of protein. Who can afford grassfed, organic in this economy?
Aldi grassfed ground beef $3.99 lb
Yes I was just gonna say Aldi! My freezer stays stocked up on their grass fed ground beef.
this is a great topic that is not elaborated enough anymore

You should invite RFK Jr. on your show. Believe he’s on same track as you on foods & big pharma.
That would be an awesome listen. RFK just did an interview with Tucker Carlson discussing some of these issues.

At least that

Protein in the urine is an indicator of damage to the kidneys usually by diabetes or high blood pressure not by eating too much protein.
