As an old codger having been in full time employment for 15 -66 I never had down time and now health issues. I am so envious that you are able to achieve this and all your other adventures so young and free. Anxiety is understandable when alone. You are responsible for ever decision. I know how that feels and when you do anything alone it’s harder. Balance it with the people that would give their right arm to do your adventures especially at your age. Love the series and excited for this trip😊

I am very lucky to be able to do this. I remember sitting at my desk one day working and thinking that I could work from anywhere so why am I sat at home? So I bought my caravan. I thought that if I didn't take the opportunity to do it now, I probably never will.

When I was young, anxiety was a feeling I called excitement, as I aged I renamed it anxiety, mainly because as I aged I realised a whole lot of things could go wrong.....not many things ever have, and nothing ever I couldn't deal with.....so I try to re-frame anxiety as excitement

Speaking of the comfort zone, you should ALWAYS go swimming when you can.
I've never regretted going, but i have regretted not.
Go in your underwear so you're not naked, and you'll dry out naturally in just a couple minutes.
Just carry sa small towel in your pack too dry your feet.

First of all, I wish you a good time. And thanks for taking me to the waterfall.
When a new trip starts, I was always tense for the first 15 minutes and used the PoPometer to hear (feel) whether everything was going well and then things got better. You have to get a feeling again for how slower people go into corners, how they brake earlier and...

(Although on this weeks camping trip I realised an hour into my drive that I left behind my pillows and my dog’s bed. I’ve ended up with a rolled up towel as a pillow and Tilly dog got a hoody to sleep on. We’ve managed and I am far too tight to shell out for a pillow and a dog bed for the sake of 5 nights!) We bought a Marbury Compact from Leisure Sales back in June '22 and swapped out of it 3 months later. Lovely little van but just too little. I thought I'd be OK with 5ft 11ins single beds but they were too short for comfort and you don't want to be uncomfortable on holiday. Plus the washroom was just too too small and that shower curtain yuk! We swapped to a Bailey Phoenix + 420. It's just 8 inches longer overall, but 2ft 2ins longer inside (not magic but shorter A frame and no front gas locker). It has 6ft 3ins single beds and a separate shower cubicle (no yucky curtain). We upgraded the payload on ours, giving us the ability to load 271kg, which is enormous compared to even much larger vans. The 420 is an overlooked gem.

@@Roz.S The 420 is 18ft 3ins long against the Pod's 13ft 9ins. Internally 14ft 3ins long internally against 6ft 8ins. 7ft 3ins wide against 6ft 6ins. It has to be the smallest van around with a separate shower cubicle and no clingy curtain.

Starting in Cheshire you could have picked me up near the start. Also with 150kg weight to spare I would fit with a small rucksack of my gear!😂😂😂 One of those waterfalls near Malham Cove has a path running right through the middle of it which takes you up to the limestone pavement at the top. That’s well worth a visit some day. Having now bought into the air fryer revolution you won’t look back, just remember to preheat the fryer first before you cook. Go for it girl, this is going to be a great watch.

Nice start to your latest adventure Roz.
I’d like to share a tip with you which I was recently given regarding chemical toilet chemicals, which is to use non bio laundry pods/tabs or just the liquid, instead of even the eco friendly chemicals. So I thought I’d try this on my recent tent camping trip to France.
I use a nappy bucket, as it has a tight fitting lid, for when I need a pee in the night and don’t want a trape across a dark campsite. I usually use the blue chem toilet liquid but this time I added a single non bio laundry pod, and do you know what? It was perfect! No nasty smells, only the smell of the laundry liquid.
When I emptied the bucket there was still only the smell of the laundry liquid and once ringed out, the bucket was very clean also.
So if I were to use a porta potty, I would add two pods or two capfuls to the waste tank and a single measure to the fresh water tank. This will ensure that your bowl smells fresh also.
I’ll be doing this in future.
Oh, and the reason for non bio? If your waste goes into a septic tank on the campsite, the bio will kill the good bacteria in the tank, and we don’t want that. So non bio only.
    Happy adventures 👋

    • @Roz.S
      @Roz.S  2 месяца назад +1

That’s great, thanks so much for sharing that tip. I usually use the blue and pink chemicals but they’re not eco friendly and not suitable for most places in the Hebrides, so I bought the eco pods. But after using the pods, I’m not a fan of them. They don’t work that good in my opinion so your tip is very welcome.
      Thanks for watching 👍🏼

I’ve just found your lovely videos. You can tell I’m a city girl because I worry if you have some means of self protection as you’re often alone in isolated places. It must be awesome to be a woman, alone (except for Winston of course) in beautiful natural settings.

Winston would be terrible for protection 😅 He is a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to strangers.🙈
I carry a loud whistle and a knife, but honestly those are more for survival reasons than protection. Of course, I could be attacked being on my own in an isolated area, but the odds are miniscule. I'm more likely to get injured, get lost, or have to shelter from bad weather, so that is what I prepare for 👍🏼

What an exciting adventure. And you’ve had a good start, your butter was spreading evenly on your sandwich! You do very well to push through your initial anxieties! I work from home too. But sometimes wonder if the trade off for convenience is that my world shrinks down around me! There’s nothing stopping me from getting out a bit I suppose and taking my work with me. But I think if I got a caravan I would get caught in an infinite loop of OCD checking and just spend the whole 2 months in the driveway! 😢New air fryer!! I wouldn’t have to tow that! I suppose in the same way you introduce Winston to new experiences with a graded exposure, that approach might also help with our human anxieties? But I don’t think I’d fancy a dehydrated chicken heart or chicken foot as a treat for me overcoming my OCD tendencies. I think it’s good to be careful and check those sorts of things, so you keep checking your hitch! I had a chuckle to myself when you went to the weigh station in your other vlog and you said, “I don’t like being where I’m not supposed to be!” It would make a good title for a memoir! I look forward to seeing the next instalment of your adventure with Winston!
