    Why pick the ZR1 coupe over the convertible? Well, because you get that awesome split window design, AND you can remove the top. I see no advantage to the convertible besides being able to put the top down on the go. I don't mind taking 2 minutes to remove the targa and store it in the back with a coupe. You get just as much sunshine in a cheaper, better looking design. I also don't think having the convertible justifies the extra expense. Also, the ZR1 is much more than just a turbo Z06. They've changed even small things that you're not aware of. The LT7 is completely reworked, it's not just a turbo LT6. I think the exhaust note still sounds good as well, just not quite as high pitched as the Z06. I think the starting price will be around $150-160,000. The Z06 is probably still the car I'd get for the money, but for someone who doesn't care about price, the ZR1 is an amazing value relative to its competitors.

      Well, as a convertible owner, I can confidently say I drive with the top down about 19 out of every 20 drives. If I had to manually remove the roof, that would be 1 out of every 20 drives. It's not convenient when you are going for short rides, and you always run the risk of getting caught in the rain or needing to put the top up quickly. Going on a date for example, it is much much nicer to be able to throw the top down than to come out of the restaurant and say "hold on" and then start the process of manually removing the top and throwing it in the trunk lol. Of all the many options I have on my car (3LZ, Z07 package, and more), the convertible top is the single best option I chose. It is the most useful and pays dividends in enjoyment and driving experience. As far as the ZR1 not being a turbo Z06, of course not. But to summarize, that would be appropriate to say. The LT7 is very different, but other than that, the differences are minor, not major (suspension retuning, 600 fewer revs, different aero, etc.). And lastly, as far as the value for the ZR1, I couldn't agree more. For the money, it will still be a fantastic deal for those who value what this car brings to the table. -Kyle

      Have you had both? I have had 2 coupes and 2 convertibles and if you like diving topless, the convertible is the way to go. It's still not great pulling the targa top off and on. I drive almost 100% top down with the convertible because of the convenience. The wind buffering is also better and you lose zero trunk space with the top down. The only reason you get a coupe is for tracking, not wanting to drive top less, aesthetically seeing the engine, or saving money with the coupe.

    The went turbo because thet are more efficient than a super charger and bring more power. The only drawback was turbo lag, which they fugured out how to virtually eliminate, so its a no brainer.

    You always lose your screaming noise when you put turbos on. This car has electronic blow off valves right after the exhaust manifold..very little lag and continuous power!

    • @GearGlazers
      @GearGlazers  Месяц назад

      It's true. Maybe more of a case as to why they went turbo over supercharger. With the limited exhaust length in a mid-engine configuration, this thing would have been actually screaming if it didnt have those gigantic turbos to muffle its exhaust. -Mike

    In one of motor1 articles there was a photo with some wires missing in the hood for the electric motor. I think a zora makes sense and will come. Dont think they will stop with this as zora arkus duntovs vision was finally realized. They have to make some major tribute to him. Probably in 2026 we may see the final c8 as the zora hopefully with a different designi

    McMurtry and/or Rimac have both been clocked @ 1.4 - 1.6 seconds to 60.
    Literally impossible to come close to that without AWD and hybridization, in a PRODUCTION car. The McMurtry is only RWD, but insane down force from the fan

    Fully loaded it will definitely be 250. Fully loaded Z06 for 2025 is going to be $190K. I seriously doubt that any ZR1 are going to sell for less than $225K

    I will say this. The ZR-1 literally just stole the Z06 thunder as awesome the Z06 is over the base Stingray this car GM built took and elevate it into the stratosphere of automotive history. Z06 seems small at this point. That’s like having a 5.7 and then going to a hellcat no comparison

    In the press release he says “the E-ray at the time was the quickest corvette ever” implying that the ZR1 will be quicker 0-60. With the right tires it’s definitely possible, it certainly has the power.

      I think it would be a major failure if they can't make this happen. But let me tell you even with the CUP2R's I have trouble putting 670 to the ground on a launch, I can't imagine 1064 lol -Kyle

      @DUEL.FATALIS Месяц назад

      @@GearGlazers maybe with the additional weight of the turbos and extra cooling, the ZR1 would have slightly more grip. But I think you’re right, unless they do a full custom tire with brand new tech, it probably won’t be much faster 0-60 than a Z06.

      Generally you don't pick a specific number. Horsepower is a number derived from torque.
      I've only built one engine. 385.6 horsepower and 441 .2 foot pounds of torque. Did I specifically pick those numbers? No. There are many factors that lead to the final result.

      Guess my point is they didn't specifically choose to make just enough horsepower to barely beat Dodge. It's likely the number they ended up being able to produce safely and still offer a standard GM warranty.

  • @DUEL.FATALIS

    Just noticed you mentioned something about flat plane engines not using superchargers. I think it’s because flat plane motors tend to have a shorter stroke and therefore less torque. Notice the Z06 makes less torque than the Stingry. Turbos make power passively while superchargers have a parasitic draw of torque making them not a good fit for flat plane engines since you’re already low on torque. I think the supercharger in the hellcat takes about 70lbs of torque to run.

    • @GearGlazers
      @GearGlazers  Месяц назад

      Now that I've had some time to think and research, I think the answer is likely due to the higher revving nature of the flat plane crank engine. Not only would it be purposeless to spin the supercharger at over 8000rpms, but also that process outputs exhaust gases at an incredible rate which would be so wasteful if not turbocharged. -Mike

      @@GearGlazers well, okay i see your point there, but with that sentence there's a bit of potential for misinterpretation, he specifically said "it's got all the bells and whistles of a luxury GT" which Doesn't mean that it is, or that it's made more like a luxury GT and not a track car in comparison to the Z06. sure with the specific model they're speaking of, that being the convertible, it IS more like a luxury GT, but as far as the Corvette models go, the ZR1 convertible is about as luxury as the McLaren 765LT, in other words, not all too luxury for a track car, but it's more comfortable than you'd think from a car in that category, even with the Z06, due of course to the very smooth MagnaRide suspension every C8 has, whether standard or optional.
      Also i've only heard luxury brought up once during the unveiling day video Chevrolet posted a few days ago, and that was due to the 50% market share in the Luxury Sports segment, due to the *base* C8 rivaling Porsche in the very segment that aimed for. Not only that, but they literally unveiled the ZR1 *on a race track*, racing around it while they revealed it, and after that they were non-stop talking about the numbers, the grip, the track performance and handling, the brakes, cooling, aerodynamics, and so on. Even after they were done talking they proceed to show off how track focused it is by ripping it around the race track they showcased it on. So claiming that they've stated or hinted that it's more oriented as a Luxury GT class car, is an abysmal take on what they have stated this car is Meant to be.

      @@AutoSonic495 This thing will be a great racecar no doubt, but you do have to ask yourself why did they say the non-ZTK will be much more like the ERAY in terms of its responsiveness and characteristics, than the base z06 no z07. It's clear they know most people who buy this will do so as a showpiece, and there won't be as high a percentage of owners who really track this thing compared to z06 owners. -Kyle
