I used to think that he stole the throne after Odin went to sleep but according to the deleted scenes, the transition of power was not only legal but encouraged by his adoptive mother and the system without loki even asking for any of it . Thor's friends really were acting rebellious to a legit king.
Yeah. When he says he was the rightful ruler, he’s completely correct. It’s just no one wants Loki to rule. But we see in Thor 3 that Loki in power, other than the occasional indulgence, leads Asgard to prosperity. Eternal peace, almost.

Watching this again, Loki makes complete sense.
Undoing the previous king's order as soon as you become the new king would create further tension. Thor's friends are lackeys.

True, but it also conveniently aligns with his goal of usurping Thor’s place as next in line to rule Asgard. Loki probably even predicted that Thor’s misbehavior would bring on the Odinsleep, so he could rule immediately.
Legitimate reason or not he’s using it as an excuse, whether there be reason or not he would not even give it thought
It still may be the right call to leave Thor, but that is not the reason for his decree

To be fair the deleted scene shows he was given the throne by Frigga and wasn't allowed to bring Thor back. That's why he's enforcing it here
Loki still has an agenda of keeping Thor banished and he very easily could be making things up like "my first command cannot be to undo the Allfather's last." It sounds like BS to me and I think Thor's friends sense it too.
Deleted scenes are not canon.. they can delete a scene to change the narrative of the film.

@@kakihustle55 Personally I like the idea of Loki just taking the throne and him just making up clever BS to keep Thor banished. It makes him the "talented liar" that Thor calls him at the end and makes him more villainous. Loki isn't a soft marshmellow that just needs a hug. He's a plotting little A-hole and I like it like that.

Loki was entirely in the right here. If he had brought Thor back, it would have minimized the latter's punishment for escalating tensions, and the Frost Giants might have retaliated.

The fact that Sif was willing to attack loki or even challenge his authority as king of asgard just goes to show that she always held him in low regard. Yeah I understand loki can be difficult to deal with sometimes but if killing people, invading other planets or even... lokis petty mischief make someone unfit to be a king, Odin shouldnt have been sitting on that throne in the first place. Lets face it if Odin s level of power had matched lokis, he wouldnt have lasted a week as king.
He was a legit king and he ruled with wit and cleverness I just wish someone gave him one chance i don’t think he would have disappointed

Except, you're looking at a movie made in 2011 in retrospect and compare to the awful 3rd movie, which does an awful retconning of Asgard's history. Kenneth Branagh would never approve of any of that garbage we saw in Thor Ragnajoke. So false argument, lady.

Loki went from seeking power to seeking companionship.
Loki was actually being completely reasonable here, and they were being very disrespectful to him as king. Plus if they'd brought back Thor at this point he really wouldn't have had the chance to grow and learn his lesson. I question why they even wanted him back so soon, did they really not get how what Odin did was not only fair but necessary?

Loki, with this armor, this helmet and Gungnir is way too powerful and this is why the movie ended the way it did, he would have been too strong for everyone. He looks absolutely immaculate.

Loki was right. He couldn't undo Odin's curse on Thor, since the throne was only his temporarily, and doing so would have constituted treason on his part. That fact doesn't excuse everything he did, but Thor's friends only made a bad situation worse by being dismissive, bordering on treasonous, toward the legitimate ruler of Asgard.
They had legitimate reasons to be weary of Loki, but I hate how quick they were to be treasonous. Thor wants to commit genocide against Odin's wishes and put the realms at risk, and they follow him. Loki's on the throne for 2 seconds and Sif is ready to assault the new king?

Ngl this scene is so much deeper than it seems like it. Loki was absolutely correct by not undoing Odin's order. Not only to keep the peace and confusion low, but because Odin would never want that to happen. Thor was banished for a reason, and he had to climb back with his own hands
We know that Loki had ulterior motives, but would Odin have changed his mind? Likely not. Odin banished Thor in his wisdom and gave him the opportunity to mature into the hero and leader that he became. Letting him come back home would have been a deleterious move.
Lokis plan was hopelessly flawed because he watched Odin lecture Thor about starting war with the Jotuns.

I think I saw another movie. One that Loki is far from being just a joke machine, just a few situations involving him that set the tone of humor. Scenes like the elevator, the death of Odin and the final, in which he fights alongside his brother, leaving the lies aside only add to the character.
