I'm a 70 year old man, I have been in the construction business and mining equipment parts and maintenance. I've been in all kinds of situations with broken equipment. We had a dead axel on a D9 cat to break. We got the old one out and they wanted us to load the dozer on a truck and send it to press in a new dead axel. We emptied out a refrigerator and put the new dead axel in it wrapped it in burlap and dry ice. The next morning me and my partner Reggie loaded it in the bed of a pickup and headed to where the dozer was broken down. Mechanics at the dozer put two rosebud torches heating up the frame hole for the dead axel. We had the old dead axel hanging from a crane line. Reggie and I got the new axel out of the pickup carried the maybe 10 feet to the dozer. Set it in place and used the old dead axel to hit this one on the end. Two taps with the old axel and it was in place and you could hear the metal bump and stretch as the axel warmed up. We were all pleased with ourselves the way you guys were please with yourself. Good job.
Good story and relatable also. The things we have learned along the way.
I am in my 70s as well. These guys remind me of. Me This is like one rescue out of the many…many rescues…. Lol
Nice. 25 going on 26 yrs in.
I'll remember that

Least y'all didn't just scrap the busted machine. 👍 Keep em going they deserve it for the work they put in for us.
Probably the coolest convoy any man has ever put together
Agreed
You should have seen some of my convoys in the Middle East.
But I would say the coolest convoy I have seen in the military is 1st Infantry Division coming off the rail line into the National Training Center. We are talking over 1,000 pieces of combat vehicles. Major American pride moment for me.
@@nickcase2635 he’s not talking about military....

@@nickcase2635 Grew up in Manhattan and on Ft. Riley Blvd. I agree, seeing the Big Red 1 mobilize is awe inspiring. Watched it for the first Gulf war and will never forget it.
Just started watching your videos and I have never seen a group work so good as a team. I'm 67 retired auto and Aviation mechanic. Only thing I would have did different is absolutely nothing, you guys rock the sand bar. Thanks for sharing.

I just came across you guys a week or so ago and I am hooked! Watching you guys MAKE IT HAPPEN and BE THE DIFFERENCE truly makes my day!
That highway scene looked like they were filming a new Transformers..
You needed more of your toys
I seen them driving down the freeway I figured it was them but couldn’t see the drivers it was pretty awesome though.
Exactly.

My brother is the only person I know that sank in the Great Salt Lake. No matter how much he tried, he sank to the bottom. He’d laugh if you named the Excavator “Charlie.” My brother passed 22 years ago. He was a mechanic, and would have LOVED your channel. Excavator Charlie.
Yep Dennis home
My condolences to you on the loss of your beloved brother. Next month is the ten-year anniversary of my brother Leonard dying young at age 50 on his motorcycle.
Sorry for your loss
thats sad
Way to remember your brother! Sounds like a fun dude!!
Fantastic Dave, I love the fact you recover these machines and clean up the environment in doing so.

To be fair. He left all that stuff. It was his junk to begin with. They didnt just go pick up random garbage.
Another great recovery. Your site should be shown in high school to show how all sorts of people can work together to solve difficult problems and get a great outcome. Real inspiration.
Schools should make better use of complex sports like Rugby Football (not American Grid Iron). It’s a true team effort where everyone has a job to do but anyone can do any job when it’s appropriate. My girl plays under 14s. My son plays under 11s.

I have a broken ankle and a ruined right knee. I can get around but it's very painful. I think I've watched every video you have. Some multiple times. I love the one when you dragged the escavator for 7 Miles. You have made my two years stuck at home and not being able to work really comfortable. Thanks
Love watching these videos. It's obvious you guys have been working together for quite a while because everyone knows what to do right away and they do it without being told. Great crew, and very interesting task you guys take on.

That recovery went really well and surprisingly with no incidents and or breakdowns or getting stuck. FANTASTIC 👍👍👍
I recently found your channel and i just love what you guys are doing, the friendship, adventures, dedication and humor.

😂 I can't get enough of this, just a middle aged guy from Sydney Australia watching some mad recoveries... Love the mud and the fact you play it as you see it. Just awesome.
This recovery is so underrated, they literally had just the right machines and even more important... the right people, hats off to you and your crew.
That recovery could've been accomplished with a come along, a chain, and a 1 ton truck.. this recovery is way over hyped and a colossal waste of resources and time

Great content! I'm an operator and wish i could go on one of these journey's with you guys. I love the problem solving and challenges of these situations. Especially when everything looks like there's no hope left and then at the end of the day the whole team pulls thru. There is no better feeling! Thanks for the videos!
Never seen an excavator jump a table top in my life. That was epic.

These recoveries are awesome. The ingenuity with the trucks and the plans you'll come up with to recover what you do is amazing. Keep doing these great works.
Love the channel. Thank you for all you do to help people and the environment. The world needs more people like you and your team!
You made that look very easy! I could tell that you were very nervous through the whole recovery and very surprised in the end when it went so smoothly. Great job!!
These guys literally became the best rescue team 😂
Lol they had like 15 guys and seemly unlimited resources to move one medium size scrap excavator. They did a good job though.
Most people dont plan on scrapping their excavator when they get it unstuck tho lol. Brilliant job tho and fun to watch
@Will Prince I see 2 camera guys, 2 mechanics/drivers and the owners coming. It was probably a “different “ kind of recovery because of the “danger “ of getting there .
I love how politely the conservation guy said " get your shit off the island"

The trip across the sand bar looks like something straight out of mad max
Attach some barbed wire and scrap to the vehciles and they would fit right in.
I am grateful that everything went so smoothly for this recovery and also grateful to see nature being cleaned up. I know nothing about towing really except what I have seen here on RUclips. While it was obviously not needed, I am surprised you didn't rig up a vehicle behind the towed excavator to use as brakes. Then again, if that happened no one would have seen an excavator jump! lol...

As a “gofer” to my “weekend mechanic” husband, it was very exciting to watch you get the excavator started. I also enjoyed watching with “almost reckless abandon” as you pulled the excavator out of the hole. A job well done to the whole team. :-)
I hope you didn't send that old excavator to the scrapyard. She's pulled off enough miracles to deserve a rebuild and new lease on life.

Hello how you doing
Dude, wouldve been a lot easier to scrap it on the spot and do trips. WHole reason was to get her back as a whole.

I think they know that. They just don’t care as I believe they plan to scrap it.

The cost of fuel for this trip alone would cripple most people!!
Facts over 2200
Yeah, I drove my friends deuce and a half 65 miles each way to a car show and we used around 90 gallons of fuel (~1.5 tanks). That thing was thirsty with or without a bed load of gravel. BUT did ride smooth when you had 2+ tons of gravel in the back! And apologies to the driver of the nre Prius that pooped their beige pants at the mall, when they stopped late and we came very close to his door! HAHA.
@@bustersgarage the engines in these things are as inefficient as it gets. Not even an old NA IDI diesel that rolls coal and gets 9mpg or worse no matter how you drive is this bad.

That was so awesome 👌 I really can't believe it worked out that good
I finally came back and finished the Vid. This was the first one I saw from you guys. As a H8 Operator I know the planning and backbreaking work that goes into a recovery. You are definitely correct about working with others. I can't tell you how many times we had to recover vehicles from other Units that had burned in. You're dealing with the Post Command, the Unit that owned the equipment, the EPA and your own Chain of Command. 10 times out of 10 I was the lowest Ranking of the bunch and everybody wanted it done yesterday. Eventually I got a good 1SG, Battalion Commander and Division Commander who backed me up. To do it right takes time. They understood that.
Honestly no joke I would not have done it any differently. Well Done . Congratulations to all of you guys . Really awesome job. I remember helping to recover a tipped over semi with a trailer full of frozen concentrated juice and as it got hot outside sliding in the thawed juice and falling on my ass as we emptied the trailer and it took 16 and a half hours to complete the job. I'm jealous

I first came to know of you was this last week when i started looking at a channel that i occasionally look at from time to time . i had watched some of his first videos when the channel was new. It is jeff alone in his ghost town Cerro Gordo. The last ones i saw the hotel had just burned down and jeff was salvaging from the smoldering embers. Then i picked it back up last week beginning with the foundation footings passing code and the pour. What a phenomenally beautiful demonstration of team work on the natural. I think you must have the best life in the world. I was mostly impressed when you honored the people that came and worked with you on this labor of respect . im and old lady now but i think you are the coolest thing sinced sliced bread.
