I met him 1 time after a concert way back 70s UK & i had a paper cup of wine ready as he aproached his tour bus he gracefully accepted saying thank you my friend i am now 71 may he rest in peace up there in the tower of song.
The first guy talking - he's the best poet of Canada ever.........WELL, he was A MUSICIAN. GET IT? And he was sooooooo great, sooooooo loved, & sooooo appreciated BECAUSE he was a GREAT MUSICIAN.......not "just a poet". The Swedes gave Bob Dylan the Nobel Prize for "literature", and he was so offended he DID NOT GO TO PICK UP THE MEDAL & THE PRIZE$$. Why? Because he IS a musician - he did not write literature. But then, after his snit-fit, some friends must have urged him to get his money & medal, and he found out he DID NOT have to appear in person IF he gave a VIDEO ACCEPTANCE. So HE DID. He made a great, kind talk, as if he were talking to children, about 3 books that had a great affect on him growing up (it's online). I just remember "Moby Dick" was one of them. (It's online.) MUSIC is not Literature. MUSIC is not Poetry - it transcends poetry in mysterious ways..........I love Bob, & I love Leonard forever........... great musicians.....only come along rarely.
Lady, he was a poet first. That's the reason he became a musician. The guy was talking about Canadian poets. GET IT ? Don't get upset for the fact that the guy was comparing Cohen with other poets. It takes nothing away from Cohen GREAT talent as a singer and a musician. SMDH LOL
Thanks for this blast from the past. Also rescued from the Much Music / CITY-TV archives? I recognise the host but can't place her. (It's been a long time since I watched Channel 79)
lovely story on great man...but what is with the lady walking behind Leonard on the street, she has her hand up covering her eyes? "Do her eyes compare like the morning sun not that I did compare but Ido compare now that you're gone".
🖤👏🏽fascinated by his mind & he deserves every bit of the adulation he receives during his lifetime & beyond.

genus - there has never been nor will there ever be another Leonard can't get enough of his words
Love his path through the struggling Humanity of mankind.
A remarkable 'early' portrait of Cohen -- genuine, thought-driven and so so charming and youthfully wise.
A true great as a poet songwriter and person RIP
Too bad there are no subtitles to identify the various people talking . . . it would have provided a lot of valuable context.
MAGNIFIQUE
More information on who made this interview, and when, would be much appreciated.
Would be nice to have some credits and notes on the different folks interviewed here!

How articulate is LC?
I bet he had those songs in the 70s
The three she mentioned Jackson, George Michael and Cohen r gone.
I admit I don't understand Canadians. I just want to get my hands on those books!!!
"Don't understand Canadians"??? I'll refrain from commenting on such an idiotic position. cheers

Contos filhos tevê o Leonardo Cohen?
Yes, one son
too many ads. i wont subscribe.
What’s the name of song about 12:00?
The song is called Memories from the album Death of a Ladies' Man c1977
Why is this woman sitting with her legs folded in a provocative way and exposed to Leonard ? Or does anyone care anymore?
Care? I didn't even notice.
Yes I was wondering if maybe she was wearing a skort (shorts) undergarments, it was not a good look was it.....
You are 100 percent right. So unprofessional.
@@philipsidney7941 I'm sure Leonard did!
Peerless Leonard Cohen.
In the stand up clips Cohen is inebriated. I love Leonard Cohen but a portion of his output and performances were diminished by alcohol.
How do you know it was alcohol?
