I'm glad I met LC personally before his Gig in Nuremberg in 1979. He was very kind, polite and we had a good conversation. At that time I was 21 and I wrote songs and poetry. He organized a backstage VIP pass for me and after the show he encouraged me to keep on writing poetry and songs. One year later I published my first book of poetry. In this way LC influenced me a lot, like no other artist. I'm so glad he kept on singing for a long time. Thank very much, Mr. Cohen.

The one man who reminds me so much of my beloved father when I was a child is Leonard Cohen. The hair, the eyes, even the nose. Dad was the Spanish (roots in Sevilla) version. To this day every time I listen to or see Leonard Cohen, I think of him. My old man was just as complex as Cohen. And maybe I am drawn to Cohen's work so I may sort out those parental leftovers from the past (which no one is immune to). This is a comforting but jarring watch. Kind, gentle, yet conflicting and in your face, stubborn and a bit vain. I miss them both. Perhaps they are somewhere in the Universe drinking Sangria, getting sloppy and jamming together while the sun slowly sets.

I discovered Leonard Cohen in--what?--1969 in Toronto. This film brings that time all back to me. A time full of joy and, then, heartache. I've read his novels and his poems. I even still have his first album unsigned by him unfortunately. Montreal was the scene of so much creativity and turmoil, right?

@@susancarolan153 I was listening to a French-Canadian commentator in Toronto on the French radio station there, CJBC in about 1979. She said something stupid like, "Leonard Cohen was born in Montreal, but I don't think he lived there for very long." Two Solitudes in action, right? Leonard Cohen was more popular in France than in his home town. A friend of mine who I met in Montreal in 1975 told me that Leonard Cohen was so popular in France that someone could put on a concert and make money by just singing his songs. He was virtually unknown in Montreal's French quarter at that time.

i loved all of this documentary except for this really unnecessary trauma on screen, really shameful to include this in what is otherwise a really beautiful portrait of leonard.
