He was not an American song writer. He was a Canadian citizen and remained one his whole life, lived and loved in Montreal and continued residing there. His literature and most of his music was written there . Thanks
Montreal has done a great job in remembering Leonard Cohen ..... I was there recently, and it was so nice to see his murals and all sorts of books about him in the museums
Thankyou Leonard Cohen for sharing with us your illuminated songs and words of love ,and life , and God , and faith and beauty all around, giving us too, the freedom to love and live life in the given moments. Good memories stay with us
I saw Cohen twice in Adelaide when I worked as local crew at the Entertainment Centre there. It was an amazing experience to see him up close - he was this frail old man who pulled himself up on stage clutching the rail of the stairs and looked like he could be blown over by a slight breeze but as soon as he started to speak and sing he seemed 10 feet tall and like an eternal, elemental being - it was the most uncanny thing I've ever seen - like his being was not contained in his physical frame.
Lucky to have seen him live before he walked in the out door playing the future second at his concert and graciously let his angelic back up singers perform hallelujah without his input! Absolutely beautiful rendition and simply wonderful performance from a man who is terrifically honest and sincere
This may be the first time an algorithm recommended exactly what I needed in a moment when I had no idea what I wanted. Thank you for posting this three years ago. It made someone's day better three years later.
I was watching a sub-woofer video leads me to Leonard Cohen Live at London Hallelujah to Zack Snyder back to Leonard Cohen speech at the Prince of Asturias Award to here... I just know him to get to know myself better. Greetings from Malaysia
To everyone who’s losing their shit because the narrator mentions the Great American Songbook, be aware that there is no Great British Songbook, no Great Canadian Songbook etc. It’s just a useful way to validate how good the songs are.

Recommend Sylvie Simmons wonderful bio of LC: I'm your Man. Meanwhile this interview is good if you can ignore the ridiculous things the interviewer says.

He was like no other! He holds you captive with his words. His music envelopes your whole being. Rest In Peace, Leonard. You will never be forgotten.💖
When I first heard Leonard, his sound, his words, held me captive, enveloping me in a peaceful cacoon.
A beautiful cocoon.
Much appreciated. Saw Cohen twice, once in the seventies, once much later in the 20s. Missing him already.
Loved Leonard Cohen so much! Such a brilliant man!

Very thoughtful heart warming interview. Thank you,
Thank you for posting this great interview. RIP Leonard
I think he was searching for his Spirituality, like me, and that's one of the main things that draws me to him.

Die ouer en volronde Cohen het my hart van vooraf gesteel. So heerlik om na hierdie onderhoud te kon luister. Baie dankie!

Kanye West mentioned in the same breath as Leonard Cohen. You have got to be joking.
What a genius

Sorry dude interviewer but Leonard Cohen was not an "American" song-writer ...he was Canadian... Un Canadien Errant . . . Let loose upon the world 🌎
I love listening to him sing ,and talk .but I'm kinda.deep.like.him.lol
Leonard rushed to be with Marrianne ilhen once again, she was not his but the affair they had I believe was the most important in his life
He was Canadian not a yank
Leonard was better than Kanye West! Get real!

Great biography.
Great American songbook? Cohen was Canadian, as is Mitchell. Including Kanye in this sentence makes no sense whatsoever.
Kanye West is not Picasso
I am Picasso
Kanye West is not Edison
I am Edison

I am the Kanye West of Kanye West
We were friends in Montreal...he was NOT American. He was our Canadian poet-laureate. Our soul.
@@lmcdougall70 He was 'North American'.
@@waynej2608 He was Canadian; a Montrealer set loose on the world 🌎
Hes not american and hes not a american songwriter . hes CANADIAN
Really surprised that his observant Jewish family held his father's funeral with an open coffin. Very much contrary to Jewish tradition.
He is not American, interviewer
I can’t hear a fuck.
Cohen was never an American songwriter. He had nothing to do with the American songbook. Nice try Remnick.
