Great video, and useful/clear info. Also, we're basically rocking the same profile picture -- love it!

starts about 2:17 if you already know what a dresser and sibilance is.

Thanks for the video! I would have liked to know why you were turning the knobs, not just what they did. Like, what are you looking for when adjusting the frequency? The shrillness of the S? And when it comes to gain reduction and threshhold, what am I looking for there? I know what to do, but not why. Thanks!

The whole De-essing thing is such a pain in the butt when it comes to these plug ins .... I think I've resolved it in my mind to just go in and automate specific bits in the vocals where it hits those ess'es and t's ... I find plug ins don't really work.. or I'm just dense and can't hear it. Goin in and hand automating those bits is time consuming, but at least I can hear it working... and I can find the frequencies much easier than futzing around with a 'compression eq'

Thank you a good explanation of the controls, but it would have been good if you actually showed an example of how to use it.

Quick question, would you put the De-Esser on the channel strip or send it to a bus if you had multiple vocals?

Is there a way to use this, or similar, to reduce compression artifacts from an MP3 file? The specific file I have, has very noticeable compression around cymbals.

Did you try the effect of the Range button or only read the QuickHelp explanations? Because they are wrong.
To verify that, use a white noise as a source signal and put an Analyzer plugin before and one after the DeEsser, then you can actually see what the Range control is doing, reducing the separate frequency band (Split) that you determined with the Frequency and Filter Type Control and in "Wide" apply gain reduction to the entire signal, not just a "broader" range.

Thanks for this video. Though I was looking for something in Logic for my guitar. To reduce the pick attack and so much detail. Someone recommended using the de esser and it did seem to help some. Anyone ever try this for instruments??
