I was giggling like a little school boy when I tried this advice in my new Logic Pro X. I was so excited with the possibilities with flex....Thanks man.
To those getting pops and clicks when adjusting pitches - I found that if you adjust one note and get a click going into the next note, then try also adjusting the pitch of the next note by, say, one cent and it makes the clicks go away. It seems to "fill in the gap" between the notes.
Great video. I’ve just got Logic Pro and as a beginner trombone player flex pitch is amazing. Not only can I make my playing sound way better but I love seeing the imperfections, the pitch drift, the vibrato on screen. It’s a great tool to analyse your playing. Thanks for cut tip, that’s really handy.
LOL I have been doing pitch correction completely wrong! Super informative! However, to get ride of that wobble artifact (you call it a missed fade) try changing it from flex pitch to monophonic or one of the other settings when done pitch correction. It will retain the correction.
I'm doing a course for Music and Sound for Video Games, and I was trying to figure out how to flex some audio to mess around with sound to make made sounds using audio I'd recorded for sound effects for an assignment and this helped massively, thanks so much! I'm also recording my second album, and I'm definitely going to use some of this with that, too! You've helped a bunch, thanks, man! :)
I managed to sort out clicks and pops in flex pitch by making a modification in vibrato and pitch correction percent on both note squares on each side of each click. I found that these occur when one of the notes has no modifications. If you make even a small adjustment the pops go away, at least they did for me. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the video! The scissor tool was useful-I hadn't used that before, so I was able to fine-tune a mix that I was having trouble with. I noticed you said you didn't use the the formant shift editor. I've found it's useful when I'm shifting pitches. For example, if I'm tuning a pitch that's a decent amount lower than it needs to be, I'll darken the vocal as I raise the pitch so that it still sounds natural.
Great to hear the scissor tool helped you out! I LOVE being able to switch between tools with advanced editing. Thanks for the tip - I will have to give that a shot!
Great vid. To the point & informative. I will help your metrics by telling you why I clicked on this video. It was the thumbnail. You had text over the graphic of "Flex Pitch." These two combined yielded a click from me, to which I watched the whole thing. Hope this helps your metrics.

huge issue with clicks and pops as well. they appear everytime no matter what i do. so after i flex pitch. i use izotope de-click with this settings : algorithm / multi band (ramdom clicks) sensitivity/3.7 frequency skew (first pass) - +0.1 (second pass) +3.2 click widening/1.2 . most of the time what i´m left with are vinyl like sounding artifacts , so i use izotopes de- crackle with this settings : quality /high strenght from 2 to 3.2 depending on how anoying the crackle is. amplitude skew /1.3 if you are still left with any clicks pops or crackles. repass either or both izotope pluggins and adjust frequency skew and or sensitivity. very good vid just subscribed.
Pops and clicks have been my biggest gripe with flex pitch. After trying so many ways to reduce these buggers, I recently noticed that, after making flex-pitch corrections, if I turn flex pitch off (put it to rest), any noticeable pops go away, but the corrections remain. Perfect! I haven't rigorously tested this observation yet, but It would help to hear what others have noticed when trying this. Thanks y'all for your weigh ins!!
What's so interesting about this is that I have gone through long periods of time of consistently having issues and then now I haven't had any issues with it in a long time. Right now, I normally only use Flex on dummy tracks and then use Waves Tune for final vocals. Waves has its own issues but it is much more smooth and natural sounding to me than Flex.
@@NathanJamesLarsen There is a noticeable pop at 13.3 "Time out of..." These pops come out of nowhere and are absolutely maddening, throw work flow out of kilter. Apple has got to fix this. That internal HD in the iMac masks how fast and powerful the guts of our old iMacs really are. That said…of course, I will be getting one of the new M chip Macs eventually. But, a $200 2TB ssd has given me a much faster and more powerful Mac in the meantime…and I didn’t have to open up the iMac - and we know how much fun that is…
