Nice video by the way, quite interesting the tonal change of flex pitch

    The Logic manual states that Flex Pitch and Flex time were designed to work with CAF files so if you use them you should change the Logic Setting to CAF files as the recording format. CAF files are lossless files that are just like WAV or AIFF but were designed to be pitch agnostic. This is why the Logic Loops are CAF files and conform to any key or BPM easily. CAF files are also good if you want to record long gigs or church services since they are unlimited in their time available unlike other lossless formats. CAF files will play on windows or in other DAWs so no worries there. You can change this setting in Logic under Settings/Recording/file type. CAF files were meant to change pitch and time and were created just for this when Apple added Loops around Logic Platinum. CAF is also the newest PCM container format with the newest code base. In my experience AIFF and WAV files do not work as well with Flex Time and Flex Pitch as the CAF format and ironically Melodyne will even do a better job with CAF files if you import one into Melodyne. Also another Thing that really helps is recording at a higher sampling rate since there are more Data points per second for the algorithm to work with. (It doesn't matter about the bandwidth). But the file format is actually more important than the sampling rate when it comes to the FLEX tools in Logic so try CAF.

    Yep - I was trying to tune vocals with Flex Pitch and started hearing the same thing you did. I Stopped and bought Melodyne Assistant and worked up to the Studio version. It is hands down my most useful plug-in. Not only for tuning, but for timing polyphonic background vocals… Also, converting audio to midi… It does a lot of things really well, with no artifacts.
    That said, the interface was a bit unique and took some time before the workflow became second nature.

    Great comparison! I also noticed that the Flex version was kind of ‘cloudy’ in the highs compared to Melodyne. Agree, the software is pricey, but at the same time - the vocal is usually the star of the song, so in the long run I think it pays off dividends.

    Nice comparison! I find using Melodyne as a plugin impossible since I can't touch the audio after the fact and use it exclusively in standalone mode and export the audio. It's interface is mediocre and it often hangs BUT it is more transparent than anything else I've tried. I got essential on sale for $49 and later upgraded to assistant (also on sale) for $99 which gets the job done for me.

      I always bounce melodyne in place once I’m done tuning and then hide the original vocal - incase I need to tweak something later down the track. That way I can edit the audio as needed and am not stuck by having melodyne on the channel strip! It can’t be beat for quality of sound!

      hello tommorton, what i do and what I recommend to everyone to do if your on a new version of logic not in rosetta and edit your audio with melodyne. click transfer in melodyne. press freeze on your track. press space bar to have the freeze be processed. then unfreeze your track. sometimes it takes 10 seconds or so but eventually your audio pops up. for me this makes melodyne 100% functional on current logic without rosetta. same thing for auto tune just change the transfer step to the track button for that software. I personally think its just better to process vocals on studio one for the time being until this gets resolved but hey if you want to use logic for your vocals i hope this helps.

    This comparision is nonsense! Melodyne costs $ 699 only for pitch- and timecorrection, while Logic Pro X with FlexTime and FlexPitch and hundreds of instruments and thousands of samples and all the great features costs just $ 199 !
    The problem with Melodyne is that you need the studio-version to work professional. If you buy the cheaper versions (essential, assistance or editor) you can't do pitch and time-corrections on several tracks at once, which is crucial for vocal alignement; backing vocals, doubling lead-vocals, and so on. The problem is that Melodyne not allows to run FlexTime / FlexPitch and Melodyne together on the same track. So you need to do pitch first, bounce the track and than use the pitchcorrected tracks without melodyne and correct timing on several tracks with FlexTime. Any other ideas how to find a work-around for this problem. . .???

    • @spinlightstudios
      @spinlightstudios  8 месяцев назад

      It’s a comparison of the tuning/audio quality. For which melodyne is way better then flex pitch. Flex pitch is “okay” but melodyne is much cleaner, easier to use and if you can afford a version where you can view all of the vocals at once, it is worth it. I use melodyne everyday and have never regretted paying for it. Most people would do all of their timing edits and then use melodyne - or if it becomes an issue, you bounce melodyne in place and then continue editing. Then just keep the original vocal track with melodyne on it “hidden” incase you need to adjust some tunings later.
