  • @lawinter1949
    @lawinter1949 2 года назад +1

    Great video! I'm a melodyne user and I discovered that the fastest and least destructive way is to use it in Logic is with selection based processing (SBP). This works for just about any 3rd party tuning plugin. I open melodyne (not ARA) in SBP and engage audio transfer button and just render in SBP. This bounces it in place but doesn't change the audio because I didn't make a change yet, but it does instantly add the audio into melodyne. Then I make my edit, sometimes I have to mute THEN solo the track because if I'm not listening to the preview version it plays both melodyne and not melodyne at the same time, then I hit render to new take. This gives me my tuned vocal plus my unturned vocal as takes in a take folder. What I like about this is that its working at the audio region level and not the track level so I don't have to bounce and place then bring it back to my main track and delete the bounced track. This method is probably mute for revoice pro because it already seems to work at the region level but this will work for waves tune and autotune graph mode and its much fast and cleaner than using it at the track level.

    This is probably the best pitch correction video I've seen. I've never been a fan of using pitch correction as an "effect", but you have absolutely nailed, in my opinion, how pitch correction should be used. When done correctly, as you have, it's substantially improves the artists tone, without possibly changing their vocals. Great freakin video 👍🏻👍🏻

    Nathan- love your vids!!! I’ve used most of the pitch correction programs, and Melodyne is far and away the best (I am in no way associated with Celemony btw) Melodyne Studio 5 has incredible tools, and makes it possible to tune vocals (and multi-timbral source) naturally - you should take another look at it man!! Keep up the great work!

      Glad to see I'm not the only one who was perplexed by his disregard for Melodyne. Doesn't take anything away from the general points he made on general pitch correction technique, but the software he's showcasing is not remotely close to the sophistication, flexibility, and magnitude of what can be accomplished with Melodyne. My guess is either he hasn't used the higher-end versions, or didn't spend enough time using it to realize its' power. He was exactly right when he said one of the biggest mistakes is trying to fight through a bad take instead of re-recording, but nevertheless I've polished many turds using Melodyne.

    • @daviddaw4018

      @@matthewmcclure3181 Absolutely agreed. Using Revoice as your main tool for vocal tuning compared to what one can do so much more easily with Melodyne is like intentionally working with a handicap. ReVoice is great for alignment, but Melodyne is far superior (and much faster) for pitch correction. Both are excellent products but like anything else, the key is to use the best tool for the job.

    I'm diving into pitch correction as I'm doing more vocal production. This video and the previous one on Flex pitch you did was very helpful in understanding how we use pitch correction. There's a lot of detail work that goes into this, being sure not to 'over-correct' but to also leave room for imperfections to keep a realistic treatment. Understanding how to split certain sections and refine the transitions was very helpful. Also what is the reverb you're using on these vocals? Love that. Thank you for these Great tutorials.

    Even though I'm taking the Producer Accelerator course, I still find these freebie RUclips videos informative. What I really like is the way you explain what you're looking for in the musical line of the performance (e.g. vibrato vs inflection vs average pitch). Your approach doesn't loose the character of the singer's voice like most people think of when they hear bad auto-tuning. To my ears it still sounds "produced", but not flat and artificial in the final example.

    Was the vocal a "one take" or did you comb the vocal track together before tuning? I think it's worth mentioning that when comping vocals it's best to focus on emotion, expression and performance and don't ditch a good part because of some minor false notes. Sometimes this can feel counterintuitive, but fixing the tuning of notes is much easier than fixing the delivery and vibe of a vocal part. Keep up the good work, Nathan. Your philosophy is rock solid!

      Um where in this video did I say you can fix a bad performance? Ahhh right - I didn't.
      Every single professional record made today and for the last many, MANY years tunes vocals regardless of how good the vocalist is.
      You don't need to like that - but that is reality.
      For some reason people freak out of "tuning vocals" - as if it automatically sounds bad or means that the singer is bad - 100% not true.
      If you can hear the tuning (in my opinion) you're not doing it properly or you need a better vocal take.
