  • Unfortunately the driver of this Jeep did injure her wrist and have to go to the hospital, but thankfully it didn't turn out worse. As seen by the cross on the telephone pole that she hit, this is a very dangerous spot to go off the road that already claimed a life.
    The morning started off with delivering the FedEx truck that we towed in late the night before. Then heading up to Bend Commercial Tire Company to get some new drive tires on the Western Star. After that we headed out east to do the Jeep recovery, which was made super easy thanks to the massive overkill of the @zackliftinternational4841, along with some traffic control assistance by the Crook County Sheriff's Department that was very much appreciated. After that we headed back into Prineville for a mobile repair job on a truck, but it needed far more parts replaced than we had on hand. So we headed back home to call it a day

      Try driving at night,car headlights are extremely bright these days and most of the time you cant even see the road ahead of you...I have perfect eyesight checked every 6 months!
      The Emergency lights are insane,you can barely see the flag person holding the stop or slow sign! I dont know who thought adding brighter lights was a good idea,I bet it causes more crashes than before!
      I used to love driving at night,now I dread it...Again,my eyes are checked every 6 months I thought my eyes were going bad,but nope I asked around and everyone says the same as I do.

      One learns after an incident like this that momentum is in charge and not where the vehicle should be. Absent the pole it might have been better to take the ride down the bank but we don't get those choices in the immediacy of the moment nor what brought the mess on in the first place. I know running down some corn would have been better than fighting the car to stay on the road after sliding on loose stones on a curve.

      Oregon is very much an at your own risk state. Very few guardrails, massive cliffs with no railing or signs, lava tubes and caves just wide open all over the place, and rivers that just suddenly go off a huge waterfall or disappear into and underground cavern. Definitely not a place to let your guard down

      Guardrails may not always offer the anticipated safety level, especially if the civil engineer is not adequately skilled in assessing and designing for torsional stresses. There have been instances where guardrails, instead of redirecting (deflecting) the vehicle as intended, have ended up encasing drivers and their vehicles.

    In the video it looked like you were using some Crosby Shackles. I use Crosby Sling Saver Shackles with my endless sling so it spreads the load evenly over the entire width of the webbing. Instead of the shackle looking like a horseshoe it is flat opposite the pin. Crosby part# are W S-253 (Treaded pin) and S252 (Pin with bolt/ cotter) if you are interested. I have 4 - 12.5t WL shackles and they are awesome, but they make them for slings as wide as 6" and 50t WL, but they are tested to 2.5X WL which is one heck of a safety factor.

    You should add a set of eyes on the under reach by the head for light recovery like that. Under reach up to get it to the road, then boom it down for the final recovery pull vs swapping winches.
    Great job on the speed, people don’t consider what’s going on in recovery to help keep things cleaned up vs the inconvenience of being late by such things that are happening. Also safer for you and the cops the less time it takes.

      With the attachment point on the under reach when you swapped to the driver side winch on the shackle and block about chest height, you could have simply lowered the under reach to lower the pull point. This would only be useful for light pulls such as the jeep you pulled up.

    • @CaseyLaDelle
      @CaseyLaDelle  4 месяца назад +3

      @@josephlawless6013 again, that makes no sense, because a lower pull was NOT the reason I swapped winches, and also because that under reach already has multiple attachment points on it that I could have pulled from if that’s what I wanted to do

    • @EdwardPrice05
      @EdwardPrice05 4 месяца назад

      He swapped winches because he was running out of cable to work with. Hence why he snatched to the drivers side so he could pull the vehicle the rest of the way out of the ditch without releasing tension on the jeep so it didn’t have a chance to try and creep back into the ditch.

    There's a common joke going around about wrecked cars and off-road vehicles, "You can't park there!"
    Rewatching the movie Real Genius from 1985 I noticed they disassembled someone's Citroen Citromatic and reassembled it in his dorm room. One of them commented, "Kent, you know you're not supposed to park that on campus." 🤣🤣
    Some jokes never get old.
