  • While on a road trip to pick up the new @406garage3 tow truck, we stumbled across a guy who is @ViceGripGarage Roadkill, and @JunkyardDigs all wrapped into one! A large portion of his collection had been lost to blackberry bushes for years, but the blackberries are currently being removed and the lost collection is being rediscovered! Ben and I got a full tour of what's accessible, and I'm thinking we need to go back in once it's cleared out to see the rest!

I've seen auctions in the midwest that are nothing but rust buckets. I had a neighbor years ago who bought an old shoebox ford sight unseen from a midwest auction, had it shipped to AZ. When he got it it was so bad it wasn't even a parts car.

This is cool to see, but also incredibly sad. All that potential sitting there, but no one will ever do anything with any of them. Everything is so buried under blackberry canes, and completely inaccessible for anyone to attempt to get anything out. They'll sit and rust until this owner dies, and the family will probably be so overwhelmed by the quantity that they'll have a scrapper come in and buy it all for pennies to be crushed and melted down.

As cool as some of that guys stuff was, in my opinion the best part of the video was the barn owl flight footage. Such majestic and fascinating creatures. There’s a great horned owl that I scare up every so often in the back forty and to see such a large bird take flight and flap it’s wings without making any sound is surreal.

We were fishing one morning at 6:45AM as the first light cracked over the sky. We saw a huge bird heading right at us over the water. It was a Great Horned Owl and flew just 5 feet above our heads as it hit land. Not a sound but we could feel the air push down as it flapped its wings. Surreal is truly the word that came to mind.

@@jeep2003not all of the cars are restorable. Some are restorable, some are donor/parts cars. There are enough cars & donor parts cars sitting there, a true car enthusiast could go in & build some classics t gf at would be worth big bucks, that's the point he was making that you totally missed.
Granted some cars are in such bad shape it's not worth doing anything with, but they might have some little part that could be used on another car to make it date/period correct, that could make one car very valuable. That's how car enthusiasts look at it, & that's what he meant by "sitting on a gold mine".

I hope your video inspires people to give restoration a try. I'm a sucker for preservation of automotive history. I learned to drive in the 1950s in a 1913 Maxwell that my Uncle George had restored. He had a little oval on his farm where my cousins and I all learned to drive in that car. Talk about stick shift! No syncho on any of the gears so double clutching was part of the educational curriculum. My uncle loved seeing his Maxwell getting used and loved. Made a life long impression on all of us.

That was one really cool video. What is a shame, is those cars deserve to be out there wheeling on the roads, not gathering dust. Nothing so rare that it is worth much money, but someone would take just one, and spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours restoring it, and bringing it back to life. One at a time. But, I would guess they are 'not for sale'. Which is how collections like this exist, until the owner passes on, and then a huge yard sale.

    • @timothygeiger8271

Its common for those older style tensioners to wear out at the pivot on the accessory side which causes the belt to ride more forward on the pulley. This feeds it to alternator off center. Detroit switched to a cummins style tensioner thats a direct bolt on with different size bolts that it should come with. Hope this helps

I cannot believe you walked past one of the rarest and most collectable Volvos ever like it didn't exist.
14:32 for those that wish to discover it for themselves.

@@ukmechanic8923they made just over 6000 worldwide, just looked it up, 9 left on the road in the UK, 7 autos and just 2 manuals.
I have seen 1 in my life, going into Elton John's house, I think you may have mistaken it for something else.
The Volvo 262C, aka the Bertone coupe.

What a collection. We have an HHR with 230k miles. When my husband bought it I didn’t think it would last a year. We also have a 2000 Excursion that still is used to haul trailers with 250,000 miles. A great truck. V-10 and seats eight. It was perfect when our kids were young.

Nice tour of an amazing collection Casey. Out of all of it the Ford Ranger brought a smile to my face. My lifted boondocking 2007 got hit from behind on the highway last week while stopped by a Dodge Ram doing probaby 50 mph, steel bumpers and a real frame saved my life. Waiting for the repair or write off value. I'd like to try to rebuild it.

I think, Casey, that Ben and you should recruit some of the "Al Bladez/SB Mowing and others" guys to get all those bushes slashed out of the way for further prospecting the place and start rescuing vehicles! Leave the Minis there but take the beautiful old stuff and the wreckers, of course! Good luck!! T🐻 from NL.

Oh My Wow! A Honda 600! (or two)!
My Dad had my sister drive one up from CA to MN - 6 gallon gas tank. 2 cylinder engine (a motorcycle engine, basically). 4 speed shifter sticking out of the dash (hey! kind of like a Sienna!). First car. I used it up in under two years. Had 10" steel belted Michelin tires. I would so love to revive one.
My friends and I would take up a collection, get like 57cents (good for 1 gallon) and drive all night on it.
Thanks for the glimpse of those!

I would love to have that Volvo 262 Bertone that you stood in front of. That is a dream car for me as an old Volvo guy. Almost born in an P120 (Amzaon in Sweden) and have been driven Volvos almost all my life. Today it's an V70 D2 2013 and I just love it.. My Volvos over the years have been 142, 242, 245, 744, 945, V50 and now V70.

That "light" on the dash of that one car is a "guide autronic eye"....automatic dimming headlights to turn off the high beams when headlights are coming towards you.

Note about ribbed belts Casey, on the race cars I've run for ages that use ribbed belts its common to replace them with a belt one rib narrower. Two reasons, one one less rib equals less mechanical drag which means better throttle response and more power (miniscule I know) and it gives the belt room to move from shock loading, in our case from a missed shift, over rev on downshift, things like that. The speed of various pumps, compressors, alternator can't always keep up with the speed change of the engine and the belt has to absorb this. In cases like the Neon I raced in 1995 the stupid thing would spit the power steering belt off every time you downshifted with any haste. That would peel the alternator belt off and it made the car really fun to drive....the fix was numerous things but one was going from the original 6 rib belt to a 4 rib belt as it'd jump a groove and get caught and stay on instead of being flung off. Just an idea for you to think about.

Nationwide back-order! That can mean only one thing, everyone with one of those belts needs a new one because the one from the manufacturer is faulty! There, I said it for you Casey.

I love tiny cars, that yellow thing smaller than the mini would be amazing, I remember telling my parents, if I could find a running micro car that I could afford. I'd learn to drive. I eventually got a Velomobile, which looks like a weird micro car but is pedal powered
