I tried to included old school queens and new school queens. Hope you like it!
Mister Golightly love your videos !
Cantor Mordechai levin thank you!!
Mister Golightly what are the name of the songs
Oh I love it. Powerful lungs make powerful vocals! 🎶🎤
I'm so used to Laura Bell Bundy being goofy that I didn't realize she could belt like That!
I ran out of breath just listening to these women
Q W E E N me too lol
Same
I’m just listening and my throat hurts haha
I needed an inhaler watching this
I need to catch up my breath everytime each of them finishes
So what you mean is, anyone who's played Elphaba
Love the Percy Jackson and Annebeth profile pic
Yea
+Barbra Streisand
@@takemyhand1988 +Melba Moore
Kristin Chenoweth did not play elphaba
I really wanna see my name in Mister Golightly font one day
Samantha Victoria wow now that I think about it, same
Seahorse Trash haha
Same but like if I had any theatrical talent whatsoever
I see you all over the place and I would like to say hi :>
You would be a God.
RuPaul: The time has come... for you to sustain... FOR!!! YOUR!!! LIFE!!!!!
Except Melba Moore...that one saved more lives than Jesus!!
Melba only seems to stop sustaining because the music requires her to 😂
Edit: Barbra Streisand too 😅
GarageStudio I also felt that with Ethel
TRUE
GarageStudio Lea too (btw i know I'm late)
300th like!!
Lyssa Merchessa 😍💞
Melba Moore made sustaining notes look easy.
Sharpe1502 and in that inflatable polyester pantsuit no less 🤣🤣🤣
Julie Andrews used to have the most beautiful voice. Her surgery ruined it. But those long notes that Lea and Amber held out were incredible. Barbra never seizes to amaze me. She’s hella talented
What surgery?
@@erpmo3326 she had a surgery in like 96 to remove nodules
Sutton’s little nod like “I know, I’m pretty incredible, right?”.
I was "yeah, no one is goin' to top this start", then Melba came!
I love how Sutton's just like oh hey I'm just gonna casually hit this note no big deal.
Literally was waiting for Sutton to come on, and of course she did not disappoint
was melba even trying?
Rumour has it that she's still sustaining the note
Eclectic 22 freaking seconds. It was amazing
and she didn't even look like she was struggling xD
She was like are yall gonna end it or nah? Lol
😂😂😂😂
I am in love with Laura bell bundy! the few clips of her holding the final ‘so much better’ note without the breath are incredible.
And even more amazing considering she had a heart condition that hadn't been operated on yet at this stage! (that's why she breathes in the middle of it)
Not to mention the movements and song is pretty high energy before she even gets to that note. Lol I can't even walk while I sing without sounding ridiculous
I can only assume during the MTV filming she forgot to take a breath before the last line.
Barbra is the queen of long notes... And what a great way to end the video!
i think sierra’s best sustained note is in wishing you were somehow here again
That one is amazing, it's 9 or 10 sgs I think. But I was going into a more belty direction that's why I included that one for Julie
Brennen Siemens me too
Brennen Siemens Sierra is in here YAS QUEEN
I’m probably in a minority but I will always love Sierra as Ariel more than any other role. I so wish they could have brought that show to the U.K.
where on god's green earth does melba keep all that AIR
In the outfit she had on
Her bones
I always love Amber's rendition of "And I Am Telling You" because you can tell she's not trying to sing it like either of the Jennifer's. . .she just does it her way and I love that about her!!
Why is Jennifer Holiday's vibrato coming completely from her jaw. lol Some serious tension there. I'm dead
Jacqueline Marcs vibrato has something to do with your technique. In the case of Holiday's vibrato maybe she uses mouth vocal placement technique so the vibrato comes out and visible to her mouth.
Shouldn't a healthy vibrato comes from the diaphragm though?
@@nanwijanarko1969 From the diapragm? That's impossible lol
Natural vibrato comes from the relaxation of the throat. It requires good breath support in order to make the chords vibrate correctly and to completely open the voice up, which is necessary to achieve vibrato. Her vibrato comes from her jaw. She actually making the note move slightly up and down to create it. It’s unhealthy and results in the slow and wide vibrato we see in this video.
Total Performer it’s terrible technique lmao
I'm a simple person - I see Lea Salonga in the thumbnail, and I click on it!
Same
same 🤣
A lot of people with good/perfect technique, in other words, a Broadway technique.
Barbra is the type of woman that makes "Breathe with your nose" seem like it's a great advice xD
Octobre Mikee it’s actually a very great advice.
But it makes no difference.
My Lord it can actually
@@mylord9395 it can very big difference
Liza Minnelli gave me chills
Melba Moore made me realize I’m not breathing good enough.
Legend says Ruthie is still singing that Ah till ths day
Barbara! Heather Headley! Melba Moore?!?!?!?!?! CYNTHIA! These are all so amazing I can't name all the times my jaw dropped watching this
Willemijn Verkaik slayed big time!! Also, Melba Moore's part is fucking legendary!! :D
BTW, Lea Salonga has hit a longer note in her cover of 'Piece of sky'. And you could've included Pia Douwes in here too, she's sustained a belt and an ultra high head voice note right after that in her song 'ich gehor nur mir' from Elisabeth!
Ah, yeah! Someone told about Elisabeth note. I'm gonna include in other video
Willemijn Verkaik's German version of Defying Gravity is also good :)
Ruthie wasn't even done yet lol
5:35 oh Judy, you deserved so much better
She didn’t deserve what happened to her
what happened to her
@@meerareid655
I'm kinda late but Judy just had a horrible life in general. From a young age, she was forced to take drugs by her parents and modify her body constantly because she came from a poor family and was basically their only hope.
It’s no accident MrGoLightly put Liza and Judy back to back ❤️❤️❤️
@@meerareid655 she discovered Google...
Can we appreciate Amber Reilly for a few hundred hours
Ella Powell Yessss
Ella Powell yessssssssss❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
She IS the second coming of Jennifer Holliday
Thank youuuuu
YES WE MUST. She has always done "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" her way, and it was always iconic. I love her.
I was practically waiting for So Much Better haha
Report Account
Same 😂
Same, and it was obvious before i clicked on this i knew there would be like five people playing elphaba 😂😂
HOLY CRAP NUGGETS WILLEMIJN'S RIFF WAS *INSANE*
She slayed the sh*t outta it!
Natalie Garrido I’ve seen her as Elphaba and holy fuck
Melba really said y’all sustained but I’m SUSTAINING 🤪🤡 period.
Whaaat Melba Moore is a BEASSST
1:21
Barbara cheering on Idina
❤️
We love a Queen who stans another.
"Broadway queens stand before me. The time has come for you to Sustain....for yaaar life!! God luck, and don't fuck it up"
Ernesto Alarcón that’s EXACTLY what i thought hahahahah
This video brought me back to life.
Sutton Foster is a sustaining MASTER. I wish you had used footage of her singing Gimme Gimme. Literal perfection.
Bernadette Peters looks so similar to the debut era Mariah Carey! Now I see where Carey got her inspiration from! :D
rishabhrox1 Oh my goodness I can see it!
rishabhrox1 I actually thought it was Mariah for a moment 😂
rishabhrox1 Mariah naturally looked like that (hair and all). Bernadette probably got a perm...
rishabhrox1 I believe a lot of people had big hair during the early 90's
João Vitor Yea even the 90s models did
Cheno's version of Maybe This Time always gets me.
I love your username.
Also, I agree.
A boy can belt MTT AFTER Puberty
I once held the last note to Somewhere That's Green for like 15 seconds. it was both heaven and hell.
Andy Aliaga same
#AudreySquad 😂
KatyStyles my new favorite hashtag
Mr GoLighlty we need more Ellen Greene
Hihi
I love Rachel Tucker so much she is amazing!!! I had the privilege to see her as Elphaba and she is the best one I have ever heard. She is absolutely incredible😘😘
I once watched a video comparing pop singers on the album versus in real life. I was unimpressed because I knew ladies like these can hold notes for days, higher than what most pop singers can hit, without the help of autotune, for repeat performances.
Julian Gines I agree SOO MUCHH
Julian Gines
I listened to Missy Elliott recently.
I'm assuming this is some sort of game where we mention listening to music that has literally nothing to do with the video?
Sierras clip should have been from phantom or love never dies
Lea Salonga the Crystal clear Voice !! I her voice so much!! And she did mulan and aladdin too!!
I love to see Patti Luponne in your videos! I'm very fan of her voice acting Yellow Diamond in Steven Universe (my favourite show ever 💕😱)
Vocals 4 U OMG I LOVE PATTI AND YELLOW DIAMOND
I love that younger people are getting to know her music through SU :)
hell yeah!
THATS MY FAVE SHOW TO!
WAIT PATTI IS IN SU
7:00 "she may be difficult but boy can she sing" MISS U Rachel Berry ❤
Melba Moore...where did that come from!? My goodness!
Why was the end note of Lea Salonga's I Dreamed a Dream cut out?? That was the sustained part!!!1
No, after what you saw in this video came the softly spoken part (now life has killed the dream i dreamed)
Thank you so much for adding Queen Heather Headly in this!!! Such an underrated singer!
Damn Judy Garland’s voice is so SMOOTH!!!!
that older style of singing was so much more skillful and subtle and took real gifts vocally which Garland defintely had
the singing style is so rough now it's not as difficult to succeed whereas in Judy's day you had to be one in a million
Melba Moore. Done and done.
all these women are so amazing holy mother of god
Lol 😂 Kristin wasn’t sustaining for her life. She was so effortless
So glad you included Linda Eder in this. None of my friends know who she is, which is a damn shame considering her vocal talent.
Angel Goldstein , and that sustain wasn't as long as the one she did in the middle of that song.
Linda Eder is my favorite
Agreed. And her lung capacity is incredible. There are plenty of youtube clips that could have been used, instead.
AND IT WAS AN EFFORTLESS HIGH NOTE. That little wink she does like, "y'all don't even know what's coming next". What a queen.
God. Judy Garland gives me chills
So happy to see you include Melba Moore in your videos. Loved her back in the day!
I love, love, love Patti and Linda ❤
And, of course, Barbra, Julie and Judy!
For Sierra Boggess it should’ve been a clip from Phantom of the opera
Willemijn Verkaik just snatched my edges
Melba Moore....wow
Melba is such a monster wow
I know Barbra and Linda has lungs for days and days. Barbra is well known for her 18-second notes, especially at the end of Piece of Sky. You should take a listen to Linda’s ultra long note at the end of By Myself in one of her albums.
But by sheer length and effortlessness, gotta hand it to Melba - that is a masterpiece of a held note. And just when you think she is going to stop, she went UP instead and hold it even longer! If that is not a BEAST, I don’t know what is!
Lea Salonga = Perfection
Legend has it that Ruthie Henshall is still holding that note.
These are the people that should be appreciated as artists. All these newer artists don't have raw talent like this
Maybe someone will find this useful:
Barbra Streisand: Make Our Garden Grow - (Candide In Concert)

Pearl the rebel love your name btw!
Mister Golightly aww thanks
Mister Golightly I love your videos
what melba moore performance is that from? i can't seem to find it anywhere
agreed i kept looking for it and cant find it ):
ruclips.net/video/XftuzoD4HKQ/видео.html you're welcome.
GC Vlog101 ur a saint
Not to mention Shoshana was sick during that wicked performance and still rocked it!!
Liza! And Judy at 5:30?! BLESS!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
So glad Linda Eder was in this. She has an amazing lung capacity. But you should have used her concert clip of "Bring on the Men," because it was crazy.
Jennifer Holliday is amazing but honey what was with the AaAaAaA LooooAAAaaooAvvvvEeEe 😂
Sounds just awful
Linda Eder ~ just effortless with a smile🤩
Can we appreciate Judy Garland for a few hundred years
Linda Eder: Never breaks a sweat, never looks pained singing those notes. That's called good technique.
Thanks for including some West End icons too!
Nice video! So many great voices in this! And Melba Moore “Holy crap!” :)
Mr Golightly this video is so compelling. Even the singers I have mixed feelings about gave me LYFE! Thanks so much. I found my self COL - Cheering Out Loud.
That first note by STREISAND...amazing. :)
Samantha's voice!!
Sierra Boggess, Idina, Kristin, Jennifer Holliday, Julie Andrews and Lea omg I LOVE THIS!!!
jennrifer holliday looks like shes eating the microphone
Idk why but when I saw John Barrowman I started screaming I love doctor who way too much 😂
I went to let my cat in when the video started and when I came back Barbra was still going
Shoshana is my favorite from this one...but these ladies are powerhouses! Wow! That note by Barbara at the beginning was wow...and vibrato..that takes even more air than a regular sustained note.
Fun fact: Shoshana Bean was actually sick during that No Good Deed performance
I love how most of these are Elphabas and you put Idina as Fanny lol - it was refreshing to hear her in a different role!
“She used to be mine” “What Baking can do”?
Great video 😁
OmG that last one from Willemijn Verkaik gave me the chills!!!
Not gonna lie, I came for Samantha Barks and I'm so glad she was here!
Anna Jones 😂 same
Yes Laura... but why did you take that video she has much better preformences
Jacob Buczak agreed. I think she was sick for that performance.
Only just found this video. Thank you for including Rachel Tucker in this video. I love the growl she does on the "and" during the last line of Wizard and I. All her growls and riffs from when she was in Wicked are amazing. Everyone in this video was amazing.
That clip of Sutton singing anything goes is my fave version she did :)
K Barbra is my Queen Of All Things and Amber Riley was phenomenal, but I literally fell outta my chair when Melba Moore just kinda decided to never stop.
Queen Barbara, Melba Moore & Liza blew my mind
Hold your breath for as long as they hold the notes. I can't breathe anymore
ooo liza is saucy, also fitting you put Liza and Judie together, that was touching
Barbra Streisand, Idina Menzel (obviously), Kristin Chenoweth (obviously), Sierra Boggess, Shoshana Bean (obviously),Ruthie Henshall, Lea Salonga, Cynthia Erivo, Judy Garland, Sutton Foster, Rachel Tucker (obviously), Lea Michele (she’s gonna be in the wicked movie so why not) Patti LuPone (hopefully I spelled that right) and Eden Espinosa (obviously) LITERALLY give me life
But you know who gave me OVER 9000 lifes?
WILLEMIJN VERKAIK ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💙💚💛🧡❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💙💚💛🧡❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💙💚💛🧡❤️ I LOVE HER
Rachelle Ann go should be here
Sweet! Mother and daughter: judy garland and liza minelli
Didn't know Bernadette, wow :0 I really can't decide this time, which one I love the most!
But I'm very very happy you put in Willemijn Verkaik :D
