Hey, thank you for this video. Is it safe to apply it under eyes or shall we avoid that area like the eyelids?
Hey and thank you! :)
Avoid applying it to your eyelids, as this can really irritate that sensitive and thin skin.
As for the eye contour, I would use a lower strength, as the 1% can be really potent and irritating.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you for your reply. I really appreciate you taking time out and responding in detail x
what skincare routine do you think I should do and should I use retinol? my skin is dry
If you do decide to use it, I would recommend the 0.2% over the 1%. Firstly, it's just as effective in terms of results but causes less irritation and dryness. And if you still experience any dryness, you could follow up with their 'Natural Moisturizing Factors', if needed. Alternatively, you can use the hyaluronic acid serum they offer before applying the retinol.
Are we supposed to refrigerate the serum
Yes
Retinol and Caffeine (for eyes) same time can i use them ?
Yes
Hi! Would it be okay for me to use this with and after putting hyaluronic acid?
Do you use a Hyaluronic Acid toner, serum, or moisturizer? Can you tell me the name of the product? If it's a toner or serum, use it before applying the Retinol because the Retinol is in Squalane, which is heavier than a simple HA toner or serum. And no, you do not need to apply Hyaluronic Acid on 'damp' skin.
I'm using The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum
@@annefromafar_ Ok, so use it before applying your Retinol.
Hi..am using inkeylist Salicylic acid cleanser. Can use this retinol after that?please.reply
If you are new to Retinol, I recommend not using it along with an exfoliant acid product. So use a non-exfoliating acid cleanser instead. As mentioned in the short ;)
Hi can I use it on active acne ?please do let me know thanks
In general, using retinol on active, inflamed acne can be irritating and may worsen the condition. It is usually recommended to wait until the acne has calmed down before using retinol or any other topical acne treatment.
Why not use around the eyes? I only have wrinkles there...
Using a potent retinol product close to the eyes can cause irritation. If you wish to use a retinol product in that area, it's best to opt for a low strength, such as 0.1%. However, it's still advisable to avoid applying it to the eyelids.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDietthank you.
i started using a 2% bakuchiol product recently, it is supposed to have similar effects. Do you have any experience or thoughts on this? I use it for complete face including the eyes as the eyes are the place where my wrinkles start to show
The thing is, these ingredients may not cause immediate harm, but over time, they can have negative effects on the delicate eye area. While bakuchiol doesn't have the same effects as retinol, I personally wouldn't use it on the eyelids due to the potential concerns that can arise in the long run.
Can i use ordinary vitamin c with this
Ascorbyl glucoside? Yes, for all the others, I would not recommend doing that, as they are very potent, and using such high strength in combination can easily lead to irritation over time. So, if you, for example, have one of their suspensions, then use it on alternate days.
Can it be used together with Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin?
Technically yes, but practically, it layers not well since both are anhydrous (without water) solutions that tend to feel very oils on the skin. From my experience, it is best to alternate!
Can I use this one day and the next day I use Ordinary ascorbic acid ?
Well, it depends on your personal skin tolerance, so it is individual, and you need to test it.
Is it only within the same routine that I cannot also use a vitamin C product? If I alternate retinol one night and vitamin C the next would that be safe for my acne prone skin?
Hey! :)
What Vitamin C product do you use?
Yes, this can work! :)
What's your current AM and PM routine?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you so much for the reply! I'm using the Rohto Melano CC face wash and essence for my PM routine. I think the only other actives in my routine right now are the AHA BHA PHA in the some by mi miracle face wash and toner which I use in the AM :)

Well, the risk is that if you're using it longer than 3 months, it is losing its efficacy over time, giving you no benefits at all. This decrease won't be immediate but will occur the longer you use it.

Yes you can, use Niacinamide first.
thx i have been using it wrongly and blamed it for breaking me out
How had you been using it before?
Does Azelaic acid goes after this? Help
I would not recommend doing that because using it too often can cause irritation. The 1% retinol is very potent. It's best to use only one of them. If you really feel the need to use both, then apply azelaic acid in the morning and retinol in the evening. Alternatively, it might be even better to alternate them on different days in your evening skincare routine.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDieti m using its low percentage retinol with 15 % Azelaic acid already without any issue. So this might be ok. Is it necessary to store this in fridge ?
@@DanielSmith-fm4fs Okay, yes, it's necessary to prevent it from degrading too quickly. Formulations like these lose their efficacy rapidly, especially when stored in dropper bottles.
Can i use it after 3 months opening?
Generally, no, because it degrades quickly. While you can use it a bit beyond its expiration, I would not recommend using it for several months more, as it's likely to lose its effectiveness by then.

@@FunnyTunny-s5i As I mentioned, it could be that it's no longer effective, so you may not receive any benefits. Therefore, in my opinion, it's important to carefully follow the expiration dates.

Also, it's crucial to identify the underlying cause of your acne to treat/cure it effectively.
Hi Melissa, is this safe to use under eyes.. And does it help reduce the slight darkness under my eyes if I use it continuously for few months.. Thanks!
Hi, also if we want to reduce the 1% strength, how can we do that? Mixing with hyaluronic acid doesn’t work right?
I do not recommend using such a high strength under the eyes. This skin is so thin that it can easily lead to irritations and dryness. It may work if you dilute it with a moisturizer. Also, the darkness may come from stress, lack of sleep, or your diet (like eating or drinking something that you do not tolerate), so I recommend looking into these factors as well.
Why my retinol is so oily I have the same one and I also have a oily skin and acne skin should I use this or not
Well, it's formulated in squalane, which is oily. Therefore, it might not be the best choice for oily skin. If you're looking for a more suitable formulation, consider the Good Molecules Gentle Retinol Cream or Differin Gel.
In the package's instructions they dont specify if the skin have to be dry before apply it. How do you know that?
It's generally recommended to apply potentially irritating skincare products like retinol to dry skin. Applying to wet or damp skin can increase product absorption, risking more irritation. Wet skin can also dilute the product, decreasing its effectiveness, and moisture can disrupt the skin's natural barrier, increasing sensitivity to irritants.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you so much for the explanation. What do you mean with "moisture can disrupt the skin natural barrier"? Do you mean like applying moisture after retinol o what?😅
@@cdg4862 Our skin's natural acidity keeps the skin barrier strong and controls harmful bacteria. However, excess moisture, especially from neutral or alkaline water, can disrupt the skin's pH balance. The outermost skin cells, called corneocytes, may swell when exposed to excessive water, potentially causing gaps in the skin barrier. This can make it easier for irritants or allergens to enter the skin, leading to heightened sensitivity or reactions.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet love the explanation😍👌

I put retinol in the box after using it do I take it out and put it in the fridge?
correct :)
If you're using The Ordinary Retinol, yes :)
can I use this with Cerave SA cleanser? or no? since it has salicylic acid?
It's the 1%, so I would advise staying away from any cleanser that could potentially contribute to further dryness. Instead, opt for their foaming or hydrating cleanser, depending on your skin type.
I don't have a fridge, I've not been storing my 0.2% in squalane at room temperature, hope it's safe?
Depends on your room temperature; if it is very cold, it may work, yes 🙂Otherwise, The Ordinary Retinol is really not a good choice; better to have another formulation with a different packaging that you can store at room temperature.
I usually mix it with my ceramide moisturizer.and then apply on my face .
Is it good to do?
You can do that; however, the concern is always that it may reduce its efficacy. Therefore, it's recommended to layer them one after the other. But if it works for you, just go for it.
The label says that it only last 3 months after opened. What happens if I keep using it after that date?
Well, it degrades quickly, so you will not get any benefits.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet what if I only use it 3 times in 3 months? Do you think it will degrades anyway in that time?
@@cdg4862 No, that's not how it works. Essentially, it degrades because when you open the bottle, air gets in, and then the degradation process starts. Perhaps if you open it less often, the process might slow down a bit, but not significantly. Therefore, you'll need to purchase a new one after that period if you want to enjoy its full benefits.

Hi, how are you doing dear, I have one question, when we started using ordinary serum, do we have to apply sunscreen after every 2 hours in daily routine, please reply my message, thank you in advance!
Hey!
In most cases, no. It primarily depends on your day-to-day activities. If you do not spend hours outdoors (in the sun/when the UV index is high) and/or sit in front of a window where the sunlight hits your skin, then no, you generally don't need to reapply sunscreen. Apply it properly in the morning, and it should last you the entire day. However, if you spend a lot of time outdoors, especially when the UV index is high, or sit in front of a window with direct sunlight, then it's recommended, especially after sweating, swimming, or if the sunscreen has been rubbed off.

Several factors can contribute to dark circles, such as genetics, aging, allergies, and lifestyle habits.
Consider the following common tips to address dark circles:
Sleep: Ensure that you are getting enough quality sleep, ideally 7-9 hours per night.
Hydration: Drink enough water to stay hydrated, as dehydration can worsen dark circles.
Healthy diet: Consume a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin C, vitamin E, and iron.
Cold compresses: Apply a cold compress to the under-eye area for 10-15 minutes daily to constrict blood vessels and reduce puffiness.
Elevate your head: Use an extra pillow to elevate your head while sleeping, which can help reduce fluid retention in the under-eye area.
Sun protection: Wear sunscreen and sunglasses to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, which can worsen dark circles.

Clean your face using one of the cleansers from this link: ruclips.net/user/shortsqMd1tWxPWLM
Pat your face dry.
Apply sunscreen (only if you're going to be exposed to sunlight; otherwise, you can skip this step).
Evening (Monday, Wednesday, Friday):
Clean your face with one of the recommended cleansers from the link above.
Pat dry.
Apply the Good Molecules 0.1% retinol cream.
For days when you're not using retinol and if you experience acne flare-ups, consider following the guidance in this video: ruclips.net/video/ZAqfCERnwkc/видео.html
If you're not having any acne flare-ups, simply clean your face with the regular cleanser and apply sunscreen if you anticipate prolonged sun exposure.
Can the retinol use every evening or separate days like ?
The 1% should be used with caution in the beginning, as it can be very potent. I have a guide here: ruclips.net/video/FRio8uuyMCQ/видео.html
