Hey! :) Well, this can work; however, depending on how your skin tolerates this treatment (or skincare treatments in general), it may lead to irritation, as it might be too much for the skin. Therefore, using a bit less can often get the job done. Alternatively, consider using it less frequently throughout the week! :) Also, it's advised to use the Vitamin C Suspension in the evening, as Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), especially in such a concentrated form, can easily oxidize in sunlight and heat, potentially causing dark patches on the skin.

No, the recommendation is merely a precautionary measure, meaning that both treatments can be used together. However, because they can be very potent, using them simultaneously may lead to irritation over time since it might be too much for the skin to tolerate. If you use one product in the morning and the other in the evening, it should work. Furthermore, remember to use sunscreen when exposed to the sun, as both products can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight.
Well, you can, but depending on your personal skin sensitivity, it may cause issues. So, it's best to keep them in separate routines, ideally on different days.
I prefer retinol, but that's a personal preference. I personally haven't tested these granactive retinoid formulations long enough to make an accurate judgment.
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial is it bad to moisturize with creme after or is it just not needed and can I put products like byebye blemish on my skin after?
@@kenanpar4478 If you use a cream or lotion and you have a more oily or normal skin type, it often leads to clogged pores and/or an uncomfortable feeling. So, in that sense, it is bad, yes. Personally, I would just use the retinoid on its own and avoid using any other treatments in that routine. That approach has proven best for me.
It's difficult to directly compare the potency of different retinoids, as they have different mechanisms of action and can affect the skin in different ways. Granactive Retinoid 2% is a newer form of retinoid that is thought to be less irritating than traditional retinoids like tretinoin, but may still have similar effects on the skin. That being said, tretinoin is a very well-studied and effective retinoid, and it is often considered the "gold standard" for treating fine lines, wrinkles, and acne. In general, tretinoin is considered to be more potent than other retinoids, but it also has a higher potential for irritation and can cause dryness, flaking, and sensitivity. The effectiveness of a retinoid also depends on a number of other factors, such as the formulation, the concentration, and how it is used. So while it's difficult to say whether Granactive Retinoid 2% is more or less potent than 0.025% tretinoin, both can be effective for improving the appearance and texture of the skin.
@@judith2581 Are you referring to combining 'Retinoid 2%' with 'Multi-Peptide Serum + HA'? Technically, this is possible. However, based on the feedback in my comment section, many people experience a burning sensation when they use these products together, although the reason for this is unclear.

@@DubiousMeeee It really depends on the specific SA cleanser. For instance, if you're using the CeraVe SA cleanser, it might not be an issue. However, if you have one with 2% SA, it's usually too drying or irritating when used consistently, not immediately but over time.
Technically, it depends on your personal skin tolerance. As for me, I've honestly tried so many retinols and retinoids. I've found that using them three times per week shows the exact same results, without causing any irritation or sensitivities.
Overall, I would recommend starting by alternating them in your evening skincare routine, then see how it goes and adjust the frequency of both. For example, use SA on Monday evening, the retinoid on Tuesday evening, then SA again on Wednesday evening, and so on.
@@pragati.16 If you are referring to dark spots, yes, it can help speed up the fading process. However, if you have physical acne scars, there is no topical treatment that can help. In that case, you need microneedling or laser treatment for improvement. Therefore, it is essential to consult a doctor.
I recommend using them in separate routines, such as one in the morning and the other in the evening. However, it ultimately depends on your skin tolerance and how frequently you use them.
Well, nobody knows how quickly it degrades, and it also depends on where you've stored it. For instance, if you live in a hot country and you simply leave it on the shelf, it's very likely that it will lose its efficacy quickly. However, if the place where you stored it is somewhat cooler, it's less likely to degrade as rapidly. So, it really depends on the storage conditions. Therefore, when you get a new one, it's advisable to store it in the fridge.

This can happen during the first month or so because your skin needs to adjust to it. However, if it's not reducing after that time, I recommend using it less often.
Well, it will depend on your personal skin tolerance, so it may work, but you need to test it to see if it does. Additionally, it's not necessarily needed to use it daily; using it a few times a week can still produce the same, or even better, results. Especially if you experience irritation when using it too often.
These areas are usually much thinner and more sensitive, so depending on the strength of your treatment and your tolerance, using it on such areas can cause sensitivities or irritations.
They have thinner skin and/or are generally more sensitive, making them more susceptible to irritation and potential damage. Over time, you could develop redness, peeling, or increased sensitivity.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I saw a video where a lady was applying vaseline on corner of the eyes, lips before applying retinol. So I have very stubborn nose and chin blackheads. Would I be able to still use my salicylic acid but just avoid putting the retinoid on those areas or is it too risky?
Yes, it's generally safe to continue using salicylic acid on areas of the skin with blackheads, even if you're using a retinoid as well. However, it's important to be mindful of potential irritation or sensitivity, as both salicylic acid and retinoids can be drying and harsh on the skin if overused or if the skin is not used to these ingredients. To minimize the risk of irritation or sensitivity, you could try using the salicylic acid and retinoid on alternate days or at different times of day. Alternatively, you could apply the salicylic acid to the affected areas first, and wait a few minutes for it to dry before applying the retinoid to the rest of your face.
@Melissa Van Dijk Thank you! I think I will alternate nights until I'm using the retinoid daily and then I'll probably try applying the salicylic acid and then retinoid and see if that makes my skin angry lol
No, you just need to choose one of them since they are both forms of vitamin A and serve the same purpose. Tretinoin, which is typically available only through prescription, is often considered more effective. However, Granactive Retinoid is known to cause less irritation.

However, there is a lot of misinformation circulating on Google regarding this topic. If you could provide more information on who is making this claim and why, I would be interested in looking into it. The order in which you layer your skincare products depends on the overall formulation of the products, as some ingredients may not absorb properly if applied in the wrong order. For The Ordinary's Retinoid serum, the following order is recommended: Cleanse your face Pat your skin dry with a clean towel Apply a hyaluronic acid serum Wait for 1 minute Apply the Granactive Retinoid. By following this order, you can ensure that the ingredients in each product are properly absorbed into your skin.

@@mursaleenshah6679 Yes, the emulsion can work well. However, if you cannot obtain that, I would recommend using a gel-to-lotion retinol or retinoid formulation, as this tends to be much better for oily skin.
Retinoids like granactive retinoid work by increasing skin cell turnover, which can help to unclog pores and promote the growth of new, healthy skin cells. However, in the initial stages of treatment, this increased cell turnover can cause a buildup of dead skin cells and oil in the pores, leading to pimples and other blemishes. It's important to note that this initial breakout is typically temporary, and should subside as the skin adjusts to the retinoid. This process can take several weeks or even a few months, so it's important to be patient and consistent with your use of the product.
Enjoy the lines; it means you're a very happy person, and you should embrace them! I doubt they'll be effective for your concerns. However, if you want smoother skin, I'd recommend a retinol 0.2% or 0.5%.
They only have 3 and 2 have 2% (just a different formulation), and one with 5%. So 5% is the most potent. Still, that does not mean it will work any better; often, the lower % is the one that you can use regularly, and therefore you will get better results over the long run since your skin won't be as overwhelmed.
@@viikramm36555 I'm not sure how good the formulation is, but it's one of the last ingredients, which suggests it's likely used for its hydrating properties or as a pH adjuster, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Retinol/Granactive Retinoid (any type of Vitamin A derivative) thins the outermost layer of the skin by accelerating cell turnover. This can increase the risk of damage from prolonged sun exposure, potentially causing issues like hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and sunburn.
Are you referring to this Granactive Retinoid? Yes, this can work. However, if excessive dryness or irritation occurs, use a non-SA cleanser instead. :)
It's not old information or misinformation. When these ingredients are used together, they can potentially cause excessive skin dryness, irritation, and sensitivity due to their combined exfoliating and skin-renewing effects. This can compromise the skin barrier, leading to more significant issues like inflammation and increased sensitivity. However, using lower concentrations of both ingredients may work for some people. Overall, I suggest being cautious, especially when using higher concentrations.
Hii... Can we use the ordinary retnoid beyond shelf life? Mine one is still there and it's more than 3 months now so should I continue to use it or discard it? 🥲
Did you store it in the fridge? If so, you can technically use it beyond its shelf life period. However, it degrades quickly, meaning you may not receive all the benefits as the retinol becomes less effective over time. Therefore, purchasing a new one would be the best option.

If you have very dry skin, yes. If not, no.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet ok thnx I'll do it with only retiniod for a while and see if that works better for me thank u
Hi 👋...which is more potent between this and 0.025% tretinion

@MelissaVanDijkOfficial It depends on skin type, right? Probably I need to buy a basic cleanser if this combination will irritate my face
@@DubiousMeeee It really depends on the specific SA cleanser. For instance, if you're using the CeraVe SA cleanser, it might not be an issue. However, if you have one with 2% SA, it's usually too drying or irritating when used consistently, not immediately but over time.

I haven't been storing mine in the fridge, has it lost its potency?
Well, nobody knows how quickly it degrades, and it also depends on where you've stored it. For instance, if you live in a hot country and you simply leave it on the shelf, it's very likely that it will lose its efficacy quickly. However, if the place where you stored it is somewhat cooler, it's less likely to degrade as rapidly. So, it really depends on the storage conditions. Therefore, when you get a new one, it's advisable to store it in the fridge.

Well, it will depend on your personal skin tolerance, so it may work, but you need to test it to see if it does. Additionally, it's not necessarily needed to use it daily; using it a few times a week can still produce the same, or even better, results. Especially if you experience irritation when using it too often.

Why to avoid eyelids, corner of the eye etc. ?
They have thinner skin and/or are generally more sensitive, making them more susceptible to irritation and potential damage. Over time, you could develop redness, peeling, or increased sensitivity.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I saw a video where a lady was applying vaseline on corner of the eyes, lips before applying retinol. I think this option is also good because sometimes we just forget we are applying retinol & start applying it like a regular moisturizer/ sunscreen . What do you think about it?
@@sabaaziz5926 Well, yes, in that case it's a good option.
Is it ok to use it alternately with Tretinoin?
No, you just need to choose one of them since they are both forms of vitamin A and serve the same purpose. Tretinoin, which is typically available only through prescription, is often considered more effective. However, Granactive Retinoid is known to cause less irritation.

The order in which you layer your skincare products depends on the overall formulation of the products, as some ingredients may not absorb properly if applied in the wrong order.
For The Ordinary's Retinoid serum, the following order is recommended:
Cleanse your face
Pat your skin dry with a clean towel
Apply a hyaluronic acid serum
Wait for 1 minute
Apply the Granactive Retinoid.
By following this order, you can ensure that the ingredients in each product are properly absorbed into your skin.

i used it yesterday and i got a little patch of white bumps on my cheek can this be because of the retinoid?
Retinoids like granactive retinoid work by increasing skin cell turnover, which can help to unclog pores and promote the growth of new, healthy skin cells. However, in the initial stages of treatment, this increased cell turnover can cause a buildup of dead skin cells and oil in the pores, leading to pimples and other blemishes.
It's important to note that this initial breakout is typically temporary, and should subside as the skin adjusts to the retinoid. This process can take several weeks or even a few months, so it's important to be patient and consistent with your use of the product.

I doubt they'll be effective for your concerns. However, if you want smoother skin, I'd recommend a retinol 0.2% or 0.5%.
Which of the retinoids of The Ordinary has the strongest concentration?
They only have 3 and 2 have 2% (just a different formulation), and one with 5%. So 5% is the most potent. Still, that does not mean it will work any better; often, the lower % is the one that you can use regularly, and therefore you will get better results over the long run since your skin won't be as overwhelmed.

Isn’t it old misinformation that you can not use it together with aha/bha?
It's not old information or misinformation. When these ingredients are used together, they can potentially cause excessive skin dryness, irritation, and sensitivity due to their combined exfoliating and skin-renewing effects. This can compromise the skin barrier, leading to more significant issues like inflammation and increased sensitivity. However, using lower concentrations of both ingredients may work for some people. Overall, I suggest being cautious, especially when using higher concentrations.
