Whenever I plan to buy any ordinary product, the first thing that I do is go through your videos….It is so helpful and I completely trust you on that 😘😘 you’re like a big sister to me who guides me on my skin care journey….thank you Melissa for these informative videos ❤️❤️ you’re a savior ❤️❤️
@@ivorysooya2786 Well, Paula's Choice says that their Niacinamide and Vitamin C can be used together so, it should be fine. Otherwise, keep them separate.
I am blown away by you Melissa! Even 2 years later, this video has helped me SO much. I have spent hours researching trying to figure out how to accommodate all of my serums from the ordinary and use the Granactive 2% Emulsion. I have watched so many videos by practicing dermatologists, who didn’t explain or demonstrate this information like you have. I cannot thank you enough. I look forward to watching your other videos, too! ❤
This was honestly the most simple to understand video I’ve seen so far, and I love how you’re just doing it to be helpful and not because you’re sponsored. I just received my granactive emulsion and used it. I also ordered Buffet. You mentioned it briefly but I’m still confused. Can I use both together or should I alternate? One night emulsion, the other night buffet? Thank you so so much!!
Well, I have my videos monetised, and if you watch the advertisement at the beginning of the video, I get a few cents. But no, I do not do sponsorships, and I am not in their club 😉 I do it because I love it, and something is driving me. 🙂 And I have done many trials, and I figured out that The Ordinary works just as good as the more expensive competitors; the main difference is the feeling on the skin, which is usually better if you go up in price, but the performance is the same.!! ;) The Ordinary’s portfolio of retinoids includes the following formulations: Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Moderate Strength, No Irritation) Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane (Moderate Strength, No Irritation) Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane (High Strength, No to Low Irritation) Retinol 0.2% in Squalane (Low Strength, Moderate Irritation) Retinol 0.5% in Squalane (Moderate Strength, High Irritation) Retinol 1% in Squalane (High Strength, Very High Irritation) theordinary.deciem.com/at/rdn-advanced-retinoid-2pct-30ml.html You have the Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Moderate Strength, No Irritation), which does not have any conflicts and is very unlikely to irritate the skin. You can use Buffet (Water Based Serum) before Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Anhydrous Solution). Or you can also use them at different days, or use Buffet in the morning and Granactive Retinoid in the evening. If you want to learn more you can watch this video: The Ordinary For Beginners: ruclips.net/video/diaLVk_EsI4/видео.html
Thank you so much Melissa! Watching you is really comforting, like talking to a good friend who cares about my skin! I am happy to say that I seem to be doing things right based on this video. I use Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion every evening, after my actives (buffet + niacinamide, lactic acid + niacinamide on alternate days) then I follow it off with moisturizer. So far, I'm starting to see some improvement! Thank you for being a part of my skin care journey :)
Hey😊 Thank you for your kind words and lovely feedback! I appreciate it a lot!❤️ Yeah, you can use them along with Retinoid! I'm happy that you have found a combination that works for you and that you have already seen some improvement!🥰
Thank yoooooou! I got the red BHA and even though I dont use it consistently it always is so smoothing so I ventured to try the highly rated niacinamide and was BLOWN AWAY with my results. So I also grabbed the retinol now that my skin is in its first stages of againg (32yo) I'm so excited to use it for night. The ordinary is so approachable for people who are confused by people's 12 step skincare lol. I feel empowered.
Haha, yes. No need to have 12 steps. I think that is mainly just a money grab to sell more products. Well, you could argue the same about The Ordinary, but the beauty is that you can only pick the products you really need... Anyway hope that you will like it :)
Hey Melissa! Great video btw very helpful and informative but im curious. I just bought glycolic acid, retinoid 2% emulsion and azeliac acid, can i use them together like this or no? Cleanser Glycolic acid Retinoid 2% emulsion Azeliac acid Im scared it will make it worse and should i use them daily? Im new to all of this
I would recommend using them in different routines, especially if you are new to it. AM Routine: Clean your face. Pat your face dry. Apply Azelaic Acid. If you will be exposed to the sun, apply SPF. PM Routine: Clean your face. Pat your face dry. Apply either Glycolic Acid or a 2% Retinoid, alternating each day.
Hi! This video was really informative thank you :) Can I get any tips on my current routine? I have medium/dark skin tone with oily/combo skin. Morning: - cerave cleanser - hyaluronic acid (on damp skin) - niacinimide - natural moisturizing factors - sunscreen night: - cerave cleanser - glycolic acid - hyaluronic acid (on damp skin) - granactive retinoid - natural moisturizing factors - azealic acid
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet yes :) the retinoid is a new addition but everything else has been great! but whenever i got a while without doing my routine and restart, my skin breaksout :(
Dear Melissa, thank you for your very elaborate and comprehensible video. I am about to introduce the TO Granactive Retinoid 2% emulsion and the TO Lactic Acid 5% + HA to my regimen. If I understood your video well, after cleaning my face in the evening (I use TO Glucoside Foaming Cleanser) I should first apply the lactic acid, and then the retinoid, right? I imagine it is better to first introduce one, and then, later, the other - which one would you recommend me to introduce first? Thanks for your video's, and for your answer! Anne Marijn
Hey! 😊 Correct, that would be the order of application. It’s best to start using each one individually for a while before combining them. You can start with either one, or you could use both on alternate days.
Well it is, but most people think that it is a hydrating and soothing toner ;) Why The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution Is NOT A Hydrating & Soothing Toner! + Examples: ruclips.net/video/EWU7vvGM9EM/видео.html
Dear Melissa, thank you so much for your time and dedication to explaining what the products are and how to use them! When I wanted to try and introduce The Ordinary into my routine two months ago, I came across your videos which helped a lot to make decisions with products in particular to buy and how to combine. Now, I got my retinoid in emulsion the other day (and first retinoid ever) and just yesterday I tried it for the first time - really excited! Can you please share more info about the smell of it? While it doesn't smell bad, it's a bit strange - is that strange? Thank you!
Hello Joana :) Thanks for the lovely feedback. It has a bizarre scent; some describe it as a bit fishy or maybe rotten 😉 But yes that's normal 🙂 I hope that you like it and that you will see results soon. Usually, it takes about 4-12 weeks to see improvements!
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Hi Melissa! That's actually such a relief, really didn't want to throw it away if spoiled.😁 I am indeed quite excited and looking forward to great results. Thank you once again for your help and amazing content!❤
Thank you for all you do!! I've watched 3 of your videos so far sorting all of this out. I hope i got it right based on your recommendations. Please let me know if this is a proper routine based on the products I have NIGHT: 1. CeraVe Renewing Salicylic Acid Cleanser 2. Toner 3. Hyaluronic acid 3. Glycolic acid mon/wed/fri/sun Granactive Retinoid tues/thur/sat 5. Niacinamide 6. Vitamin E oil 7. Rosehip oil 7. Moisturizer MORNING: 1. Gental Cleanser 2. Toner 6.lactic acid 3.Hyaluronic acid 4.Niacinamide 5.Moisturizer 6. Azelaic acid 6.SPF I wasnt sure if i could mix Salicylic cleanser with the Retinoid
Yes, it's correct, but I think this is way too much for one routine; generally, I would go with 1-2 serums per routine. Cleanser Toner (hydrating soothing) Exfoliant (pm) 1-2 serums Oil/Moisturizer or Suspension (SPF Daytime) And it's best to not use BHA (Salicylic Acid) or AHA (Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid) with Retinol/Retinoids.
Today I picked this up to add in my skin care routine. I chose granactive emulsion since I have oily skin and get pimples in my cheek and temple area. This is my first time starting a retinol product. I hope my results go well.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I also ordered the ordinary mandelic acid but it’s taking forever to come in the mail. My other skin care products are CeraVe foaming facial cleanser and the moisturizing pm motion.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I learned to not use exfoliatants and retinoids them in the same routine from your other videos thanks. I’ll be sure to alternate between them on different days. I don’t know what sunscreen to use though for oily skin though🤦🏾♂️
@@Malek-b Mandelic Acid and The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid can be used in the same routine because both products are gentler and less likely to cause irritation. However, I always recommend using them separate in the beginning so that your skin can adjust to them before using them in the same routine! :) You may want to look for a light fluid sunscreen like the La Roche Posay Invisible Fluid or a mattifying sunscreen, which I believe La Roche Posay has as well or Nivea :)
Thank you Melissa for your wonderful videos. They are extremely helpful. Your explanation and showing each step and the do's and don'ts are fabulous. I have mature, sensitive skin so it's so important for me to know what I can and can't use and how to layer the products.
So helpful!! Especially the description too! Appreciate the time and effort put into all of this just to make it more convenient for viewers! :)subscribing
Hey! :) Yes men can use this too! :) The time it takes for retinol/retinoid to show results depends on multiple factors, including the product's concentration, formulation, frequency of use, and individual skin type and concerns. It usually takes several weeks to months of regular use to notice visible results in skin texture, fine lines, and pigmentation. Nevertheless, some individuals may witness improvements sooner, while others may need to use it for an extended period to observe substantial changes.
Hi, I just saw your video today, and I just love that. I have discoloration and pores, what should I go with? Retinol or retinoid? As a beginner what should I use now?
Thank you so much for all your great advise! I’ve been recommending your videos to everyone I know :D One Question: Can I use oils (B oil) after the Retinoid Emulsion?
Hello! :) There isn’t much information available on the Retinoid 2% in Emulsion, so it’s hard to say for sure. At the end of the day, it really comes down to what your skin tolerates better. In any case, it’s always best to test it and see what works best for you.
I'm confused. I spoke with a deceim rep and she advised me NOT to use any acids when using granactive retinoid 2% emulsion, but you are suggesting we can? Please clarify. thx
This is what I read on the Deciem chat room earlier: “Can I use The Ordinary Salicylic Acid or Lactic Acid in the same routine as Granactive Retinoid or Retinol in Squalane? If you wish to incorporate multiple Vitamin C’s, Retinoids, and/or Direct Acids into your skincare regimen, we suggest using them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has adjusted to one before introducing another. “
Thank you for the information Melissa. Can I use this retinoid emulsion straight after cleaning my face ? Skipping the toner and serum application. Please let me know. Many thanks in advance !
Hi! Thanks for going over the difference of emulsion and squalane. However I still have one question. When it comes to strenght and "effective anti-aging", which is better? Granactive Retinoid or Retinol in Squalane? 🤔 And btw my skin is not sensitive. I just want to get the best benefits of anti-aging using The Ordinary products. Thank you 🥰
Well according to the Ordinary the Granactive Retinoids. "This product uses next-generation retinoid active technologies which have been shown to achieve better reduction in signs of aging than retinol without irritation. These technologies cannot be compared directly with retinol itself in terms of concentration because they include a different retinoid molecule, in a similar way that Retinol cannot be compared with Retinoic Acid in terms of concentration. If you have interest in a retinol product, please refer to our Retinol portfolio above which products contain pure retinol and cost less since many retinol technologies cost less than their next-generation counterparts like Granactive Retinoid. Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Moderate Strength, No Irritation) Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane (Moderate Strength, No Irritation) Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane (High Strength, No to Low Irritation) Retinol 0.2% in Squalane (Low Strength, Moderate Irritation) Retinol 0.5% in Squalane (Moderate Strength, High Irritation) Retinol 1% in Squalane (High Strength, Very High Irritation) theordinary.deciem.com/product/rdn-advanced-retinoid-2pct-30ml I hope this helps :)
Hi! I love your videos! ❤️ I’ve been using 1. Cleanser 2. BHA Paula’s choice 3. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and following with a moisturizer. I struggle with hyperpigmentation from old acne and new blemishes. I recently just bought these two and wanted to know how I could add it into my routine, azelaic Acid Suspension 10% and granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion. Thank you! ☺️
Hello 😃 Is that your evening routine? 🤔 Otherwise, I recommend using sunscreen during the day since you are already targeting hyperpigmentation not to make it worse. An example could look like this: AM: Cleanser Niacinamide (Optional Moisturizer if the sunscreen isn't hydrating enough) Azelaic Acid (Sunscreen suitable for your skin type and needs) PM1: Cleanser Paula's Choice BHA Moisturizer PM2: Cleanser Granactive Retinoid in Emulsion (Optional Moisturizer)
Generally, it should not do that. But, are you new to the product? What else are you using? Which cleanser do you use, and do you use other skincare products in the same routine? Generally, if it does not cause stinging or burning, then it should be fine, especially if it goes away after a few moments. That is, at least, my experience.
Hello Melissa! You’re explanations are more than clear! I just want to ask you something: how long can we use this retinoid product? For example, is it ok to use it for a month, then use aha/bha for the next month and then restart using the retinoids? I’m a bit confused because I’ve heard that if you use it too often , your skin gets used to it and there aren’t any visible results anymore. Your answer will help me! Thanks in advance xxx
Hey! :) What AHA/BHA product do you use? You do not necessarily need to switch every month. You just can keep on using your Retinoid and if you think that it has stopped working, give your skin a break and then start again or move up to the 5% instead of continuing with the 2%.

Yes, they changed it a few days ago without any notification. :) They had a routine on their website where they recommended people using those in combination which I recreated a while back: The Ordinary Example Regimen for Textural Irregularities | Full Demonstration: ruclips.net/video/geF4SbZYuCw/видео.html They delete it and just replaced it with another routine. 😞 See here: The Ordinary Products Not to Use Together (Update November 2020): ruclips.net/video/JBNx1GOXVmg/видео.html However, you are OK to use them in combination. I am not sure what they have changed; it may be because many people didn't use them properly. But again, why they did not just make a little pop-up window to let people know 🤔 Very sad.
Hi Melissa! I thought a few ordinary products but not sure of the order and frequency. I have a niacinmide serum, granactive retinoid 2%, hylauronic acid serum and the glycolic acid & moisturiser. What is the order and how often should I use each?

Hmm, I would rather go with Good Molecules' Gentle Retinol Cream 0.1% or Differin Gel, as the ones from The Ordinary are not that great for acne because they are in squalane. However, if you don't have any problems with squalane, you could try the 0.2%.

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I’m a newbie to the ordinary. I am trying to get away from using benzoyl peroxide because I’m tired of it staining/bleaching sheets, blankets, pillowcases, etc… anyway, I’ve been using in the morning cleanser, toner, marine hyloronics, nicinamide with zinc and azeliac acid. In the nighttime I cleanse, toner, glycolic acid toning solution, nicinamide with zinc (I would like to get the grandactive with emulsion), moisturizer then followed by azaleic acid. I would use the differin gel as a preventative. Thank you again!
Oh okay! So, yes, you can do it like you have mentioned. However, make sure to adjust the frequency of Glycolic Acid. Start with 2-3 times per week for some time before using it more often. You can use the Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toning Solution and Granactive Retinoid in the same routine and you can use Glycolic Acid and Azelaic Acid in the same routine (if that's fine for your skin). However, if irritation occurs keep them separate and you may just want to use Azelaic Acid in the AM and use Glycolic Acid and Granactive Retinoid in the PM - together or alternate nights. However, it is not recommended to use AHA or BHA and Differin in the same routine as it can lead to irritation.
my granactive retinoid 2% emulsion arrived with kind of a yellow tint. is it still safe to use? i am not quite sure because on other videos it looked a bit yellow too, whereas in your video it just looks white. please help a girl out!

Yes, you can use it daily if your skin can tolerate it. However, if you are new to it, you may want to start with using it 2-3 times per week for a while and see how your skin is reacting to it :)
Hi Melissa! Im using retinoid 2% emulsion every day, and my skin is doing great. How can I build it up? Which retinoid/retinol should be the next step?
Hello :) Since you are already using the Granactive Retinoid 2%, I recommend using the 5% in Squalane. :) Just keep in mind that it has a more oily texture. If you want something different, you need to change the brand.
Hi Melissa, silly question perhaps, but which one lasts more (or yields more drops) the emulsion or the squalene one? I'm scared of getting the emulsion version and feeling short-changed. If I'm not mistaken, all other Ordinary retinol/retinoids are squalene based so maybe they're better at fabricating those. Again, I have never used retinoids yet. Just doing a bit of research. Thank you...again.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you very much! I'll be buying my whole family - well, 4 people - their skin care kit to get them started, so I'm covering all my bases here.
How often should I use Retinoid continue? When I should give break to retinol and how many days after again restart cycle? (Need retinoid complete break between daily routine if someone using 4-5days in week).❤
If you are new to it, start with 2-3 times per week, like Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Do this for a couple of weeks. If you are satisfied with that frequency, keep following it. If not, you can increase it to every other day and then eventually daily if your skin tolerates it. :) Still, have a look at the other replies! :)
I m using it 5 times a week at pm. It's well tolerated to me. But If I wish to switch retinol and move back on vit c again. So how long I want to take a break in between before I start any new serum.window period of chemical.
Great explanation! I'm using cleanser + buffet + granactive retinoid + moisturiser as my PM routine. May I ask, why are we keeping the serums & creams away from mouth and eyes? Is it only for irritation? The Ordinary does not have an eye cream and I feel the lack of moisturising those sensitive areas too.
Eyelids? Because they are not meant for it and can easily irritate the eye. But you can use them on the eye contour and around your mouth. The eye contour is generally more sensitive, so if you have a high strength of Retinol, it will lead to irritation, and you may need to adjust it with an eye cream, but the main issues are the corners of the eyes, nose and mouth. But just experiment and see what works best for you :) Every skin is a bit different.
I know you know your skincare info but it's a little concerning that you use the granactive retinoid 2% emulsion as part of your daytime skincare routine. This should be used at nightime - its a retinol/retinoid. Yes La Roche Posay is a good sunscreen but using the retinoid as part of your daily routine rather than the night routine may do your skin a little more damage when youre outside in the sun
Hm, I haven't said this or did I 🤔 I said that you should wear sunscreen when using your skincare routine for the next day. But apart from that if you use a sunscreen and apply it evenly, it should not be a problem when using it during the day. I have read some studies that even claimed that it might protect the skin from the sun. You can read this right here: imgur.com/UEFBBZM imgur.com/d2C10AR

Hi! I have some questions to ask you. 1: can you apply retinoid/retinol over self tanner? I use eco by sonya 1x a week it’s a gradual tan so you can’t wash it off at the end of the day, will this give reaction? 2: they say not to use vitamine c when using retinol or retinoid, i assume this is only meant for skincare? I take vitamine c as a supplement every day for my immune system so i was wonder if consuming vit c is bad to combine with this serum. 3: if i apply this at night, do you have to wear spf in the morning? Will my skin still be sensetive to sunlight after houres of sleeping with it? Thank u 🙏🏻
Hello, 1. I assume that you cannot do it or the retinoid will not be as effective. But just guessing. I don't know that one 😉 2.Yes, but in fact, you can use Vitamin C, but the % is most likely too high in most concentrations I think you can use up to 2% in skincare. 3.Technically not, but it's always good to do it since you want maximal results, so it is recommended. There are many articles online that say that Retinol/Retinoids may even protect the skin. But to get a better answer, I recommend asking a dermatologist. 🙂
After seeing this video I have bought The Ordinary granactive retinol 2% in emulsion, I want to ask after it's use will it remove my smile line wrinkle.
It's important to understand that there is no single skincare product that can guarantee the removal of wrinkles, including smile lines. However, regular use of retinol products like The Ordinary Granactive Retinol 2% Emulsion can help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time. Retinol works by increasing cell turnover, stimulating collagen production, and improving skin elasticity, which can lead to smoother, more youthful-looking skin. However, it can take several weeks or even months of consistent use to see noticeable improvements in the appearance of wrinkles. It's also worth noting that the results of any skincare product can vary depending on factors such as your age, skin type, lifestyle habits, and overall health.
Here’s what I bought but haven’t used them yet as I don’t know what will be my daily am and pm routine. Can you help? 1. AHA BHA Peeling solution 2. Salicylic acid Masque 3. Niacinamide + Zinc 4. Moisturizer 5. Granactive Retinoid 6. Glycolic Toning Solution

Hi Melissa. New subbie here. Im about to order the ordinary retinol and im seriously confused. * This is my first retinol * I have sensitive/ oily/ acne prone skin, and a lot of acne scars. Which would be better to buy and also which other one should I upgrade to after I'm done with the first after seeing results. Thank you.
Hey! If you have oily sensitive acne prone skin, you may prefer to look into Adapalene (Differin) instead of an Retinol/Granactive Retinoid. Adapalene, is a Retinoid and it is used as an acne treatment, not only for active acne but also post-acne marks. Have a look at this video first before deciding which one you want to get: How To Use Differin Gel (0,1% Adapalene): ruclips.net/video/HidfBo8R4zQ/видео.html
Hello :) Hyaluronic Acid goes first layer Niacinamide on top and lastly use the Retinoid. The Ordinary For Beginners: ruclips.net/video/diaLVk_EsI4/видео.html
This could work since Granactive Retinoid does not really lead to sensitivity. However, if sensitivity occurs, switch to a non-exfoliating acid moisturiser.
Melissa in the usage guide for the ordinary says that you cannot use direct acids with Retinoids! But you say it can. Do you have any bibliography that talks about this combination of retinoids and direct acids? I would greatly appreciate it! Greetings
I assume that you are looking at deciemchatroom, which is a website from a fan similar to me; you need to look at the official deciem website for information see here: theordinary.deciem.com/at/theordinary_regimenguide.html Generally, they changed it a while ago but changed it again about one month ago. With the Granactive Retinoids, there should not be any issues since they are unlikely to irritate the skin. Therefore you can use them. But it all depends on what you want to achieve. Also, it's not advised to use them with Retinol since it can lead to irritation. But if you target textural irregularities, it makes sense, yes.
This was super helpful! Thank you so much Melissa, I love what you do for so long! 😍 I’m new to this, so I have a question. Do you have a suggestion in which order I could do my skincare routine using The balance set, EUK and Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion by The ordinary? Is it all for pm skincare routine? Could you provide your morning and evening routine with "The Balance set"? Once I have that, I can help you incorporate the other products. Because there are many ways to set it up. 😉
Yes, that's possible. I recreated the old example routine from The Ordinary website a while ago; see here: The Ordinary Example Regimen for Textural Irregularities | Full Demonstration: ruclips.net/video/geF4SbZYuCw/видео.html

Hmm, I think it might be a bit much. I would suggest possibly not using the niacinamide in the morning, or maybe just every other day. Routine: AM: Cerave Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser Hyaluronic Acid (The Ordinary) or Moisturiser Sunscreen PM1: Cleanser BHA Paula’s Choice (You'll need to see how this works for you. Twice a week might already be sufficient.) Wait a few minutes Moisturiser PM2: Cleanser Retinol Granactive Emulsion Wait a few minutes Moisturiser

@@kuzushii_ If you suffer from redness, the BHA, Retinoid and Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser might not be suitable for you. Moreover, their formulations may not be the best fit for your skin. I would advise a simpler regimen for you. AM: Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser Hyaluronic Acid (from The Ordinary) or another moisturizer Sunscreen - consider something like Good Molecules Sheer SPF 30. Use it if exposed to the sun; otherwise, skip it. In that case, the hyaluronic acid would be your last step. Hi Melissa, your videos are so helpful and amazing thank you for your effort in making them✨I have one question, can I dilute the Granactive Retinoid in Squalane oil?
Hi. Can I use a vitamin C toner at night then apply the granactive retinoid emulsion then a cream? Is there any issues with using Vit C and retinol/ retinoid? Thanks
Hi Melissa! I’m new to using retinol and was previously using Buffet. Would it be worth incorporating both into my skincare routine for any added benefits or would using retinol negate the need for Buffet? ❤️
Yes, that's fine and yes, you can use them in the same routine if that's fine for your skin. Otherwise keep them separate and alternate between them. Also, have a look at this video here: How Many Times A Week Should You Exfoliate: ruclips.net/video/aTTM9xPwCjk/видео.html

I would suggest using Matrixyl and Niacinamide in the morning, and Retinol in the evening to avoid skin sensitivities and for better layering. However, it is possible to use them together as they do not conflict with each other.

My routine is like am cerave foaming cleanser , ordinary niacinamide, simple light moisturizer and finish it up with sunscreen and pm also the same routine so I don't know how to include this Retinoid in my routine and in a week how often I can use it?

Yes, you should use no more than three little bottles in one routine. Also, most plant oils are applied before the moisturizer. And the suspensions are applied as a last step after the moisturizer. The reason for this is those oils have smaller molecules and can penetrate the skin.(All of the ordinary oils) Traditional moisturizer and suspension have havier ingredients that cannot penetrate the skin and sit on top. Example Dimethicone, Petrolatum, Shea Butter, coconut oil etc. You can also watch the following video to understand it a bit better: The Ordinary For Beginners: ruclips.net/video/diaLVk_EsI4/видео.html

Ju st wanted to say you are one of the prettiest people I've ever seen and you seem so nice and smart!!
And I wanted to say thank you very much 🙂 Made my day ❤️🥂❤️
This changed my skin is such a great way 😌 so proud to go without makeup!!Thanks girl!!! 😊
🙂 And I have done many trials, and I figured out that The Ordinary works just as good as the more expensive competitors; the main difference is the feeling on the skin, which is usually better if you go up in price, but the performance is the same.!! ;)
The Ordinary’s portfolio of retinoids includes the following formulations:
Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Moderate Strength, No Irritation)
Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane (Moderate Strength, No Irritation)
Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane (High Strength, No to Low Irritation)
Retinol 0.2% in Squalane (Low Strength, Moderate Irritation)
Retinol 0.5% in Squalane (Moderate Strength, High Irritation)
Retinol 1% in Squalane (High Strength, Very High Irritation)
theordinary.deciem.com/at/rdn-advanced-retinoid-2pct-30ml.html
You have the Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Moderate Strength, No Irritation), which does not have any conflicts and is very unlikely to irritate the skin.
You can use Buffet (Water Based Serum) before Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (Anhydrous Solution). Or you can also use them at different days, or use Buffet in the morning and Granactive Retinoid in the evening.

The ordinary is so approachable for people who are confused by people's 12 step skincare lol. I feel empowered.

Hey Melissa! Great video btw very helpful and informative but im curious. I just bought glycolic acid, retinoid 2% emulsion and azeliac acid, can i use them together like this or no?

Glycolic acid
Retinoid 2% emulsion
Azeliac acid

Pat your face dry.
Apply Azelaic Acid.
If you will be exposed to the sun, apply SPF.
PM Routine:

Great explanation! How long does it take to see visible results? I have just about started using it. Can men use this ?
Hey! :)
Yes men can use this too! :)
The time it takes for retinol/retinoid to show results depends on multiple factors, including the product's concentration, formulation, frequency of use, and individual skin type and concerns.
It usually takes several weeks to months of regular use to notice visible results in skin texture, fine lines, and pigmentation. Nevertheless, some individuals may witness improvements sooner, while others may need to use it for an extended period to observe substantial changes.
Thanks very much for your advice Melissa. Really appreciate reply♥️

Thank you for the explanation! Is it normal if your skin gets red right after the retinol but after a few minutes it goes away?
Generally, it should not do that. But, are you new to the product? What else are you using? Which cleanser do you use, and do you use other skincare products in the same routine? Generally, if it does not cause stinging or burning, then it should be fine, especially if it goes away after a few moments. That is, at least, my experience.
Hello Melissa! You’re explanations are more than clear! I just want to ask you something: how long can we use this retinoid product? For example, is it ok to use it for a month, then use aha/bha for the next month and then restart using the retinoids? Hey! :)
What AHA/BHA product do you use?
You do not necessarily need to switch every month. You just can keep on using your Retinoid and if you think that it has stopped working, give your skin a break and then start again or move up to the 5% instead of continuing with the 2%.

Hey 🙂 Yes, it would help if you did this. Because if you do not do it it will slowly lose the efficacy and therefore it may not be guaranteed that you will have the full effect during the three months.

Your all information is excellent.. can you please suggest me some ordinary product for my very light melasma.i am 42..i already have ordinary ratinoid which I m going to start soon.but need your advice . For morning and evening please.thank you
Hello Nidhi,
The Ordinary does not have any products for Melasma, so you need to ask in your local pharmacy for more advice. However, Ascorbic Acid and Alpha Arbutin may have some benefits for it, so you can test that serum if it may help to improve it a little 😉
Hi, I bought this emulsion last week and I used it once, then on the second time, the colour changed to yellowish colour! Could you explain why please? Thank you so much for all the clear information on the skin care routines, extremely helpful.🥰
It's because air comes into the bottle, so it oxidizes, which isn't bad as long as it isn't dark yellow/orange. But I wonder how do you store it? 🤔
The bottle says to keep it in the fridge 🤷🏽♀️
Hi! Love your videos. I am new in PM and AM routines. For now Im using Vit C Ferulic Acid from Timelss, Hyaluronic Acid 2% The Ordinary, Granactive Retinol Emulsion and Collagen peptide from Olay. My face has T spot greasy. I have some dark spots from sun so I bought Lactid Acid 10% HA and Alpha Arbutin 2% from The Ordinary. With 6 products in total I am totally confused about the order of putting all that. Could you please help me find the best way of doing it. Thanks!
Hey! :)
Avoid using lactic acid and granactive retinoid in the same routine. Use them on alternate nights. As for alpha arbutin, use it in the morning, and your hyaluronic acid serum in the evening.
Please could you recommend a good daytime routine for combination skin ( dry cheeks with greasy tzone especially sides of nose....and large pores

@@josephdelap8293 What do you currently use?

Can you use the 2% Retinoid EVERY night? ma'am.
or a few times a week only... ty for answering
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thank you for your help❤
Hi Melissa, silly question perhaps, but which one lasts more (or yields more drops) the emulsion or the squalene one? I'm scared of getting the emulsion version and feeling short-changed.
If I'm not mistaken, all other Ordinary retinol/retinoids are squalene based so maybe they're better at fabricating those. Again, I have never used retinoids yet. Just doing a bit of research. Thank you...again.
Hey 🙂

ruclips.net/video/I9HOfpsOZRs/видео.html
Still, have a look at the other replies! :)
I m using it 5 times a week at pm. It's well tolerated to me. But If I wish to switch retinol and move back on vit c again. So how long I want to take a break in between before I start any new serum.window period of chemical.
@@ArSnaheet Oh, okay! That's great!
Well, you can theoretically switch immediately. You do not need to take a break for this.
Thank you I’m going to write that order of products down 🤗
Great explanation!
You can read this right here:

Maybe you got too excited to end the video that you didnt understand what she said about wearing the sunscreen.

Thank u 🙏🏻
Hello,
1. I assume that you cannot do it or the retinoid will not be as effective. But just guessing. I don't know that one 😉
2.Yes, but in fact, you can use Vitamin C, but the % is most likely too high in most concentrations I think you can use up to 2% in skincare.
3.Technically not, but it's always good to do it since you want maximal results, so it is recommended. There are many articles online that say that Retinol/Retinoids may even protect the skin. But to get a better answer, I recommend asking a dermatologist. 🙂
hi! so i use the snail musin cosrx essence, how will i incorporate it to my skin care routine? do i put it before or after the retinoid?
Use it before, then wait 1-2 minutes, and then layer the retinol on top.
@Melissa Van Dijk got it. Thanks for your quick reply. Love you. Happy Holi it's holi in India today.

* This is my first retinol
* I have sensitive/ oily/ acne prone skin, and a lot of acne scars.

Generally, they changed it a while ago but changed it again about one month ago.
