  • A 1:30.1 around Thruxton in Peugeot 206 GTI 180 - my favourite UK circuit. This was my third visit to the circuit and after a recent weight saving exercise I managed to find nearly 2.5s on last years best lap!
    (I kept saying 1:31.1 in the video - it was actually a 1:30.1)
    I will take you through an onboard lap of Thruxton through my eyes as I battle a Porsche 968 in CSCC Open Series.
    It was by no means a perfect lap, with my optimal sectors showing me I could find another half second around the lap it I was able to string it all together. But this was my best lap of the weekend which came in the heat of battle.

    Thank you James, this was really useful! I'm off to Thruxton on Wed for a press drive and never done a lap there before... 👌

      Amazing! Thanks Joe. Best of luck! This is the circuit I had a bit of fear at first time but once the confidence and experience kicks in it is an absolute blast lap after lap there! Let me know how it goes 🎉

    Hi James. I am doing a supercar expereince day around Thruxton later later this year.
    I have watched every pole lap from 2022 to 2015 in the BTCC, but have learned just as much from your tuition.
    I think if my relatives are willing to pool all that money on a supercar expereince day the least I can do is put in the hours learning the track from the experts.
    Please keep up the good work.

      Thanks for watching! Great to hear you’ll be hitting Thruxton later in the year. I’ll be racing there again in May so will have lots of fresh videos to check out after. I’ll update the hot lap and will make a race review as well! Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you in the comments again 😎

      Nice one Josh! Best of luck at what is a superb circuit. I'm racing there on Saturday in my newer/better 206 so I'm hoping to smash that lap time from a couple of years ago - although rain is forecast so maybe not possible. I'll try and get some fresh Thruxton content up before your track day. Let me know how you get on!

      @@JamesWilson234 ah hope the race went well!? Track day was awesome yesterday! Started dry and got progressively wetter as the day went on so a good test on varying grip levels! Hooked! Gonna book in for Brands I think next! 💯🏁

      Sorry I missed your reply, had the wrong notification settings! My race day was ok. Washout qualifying and the car wanted to spin off on the bumps to the final chicane. And then I spun down the pit straight and just missed the pit wall, a friend didn’t and hit both ends. Race was a lottery as safety came out and I didn’t put so had to fight back through the field. My camera didn’t work that day. Did you go to brands?

      @@JamesWilson234 I'm actually taking a honda crv suv this time... It has r888s, yellowspeed coilovers and ep3 civic type r calipers (with the civic cup disc & pad combo)
      Put together as a joke really, but cant take credit for the idea. My mate got me into it, he did it first. Hopefully take my camera and get some decent footage

      @@JamesWilson234 it was awesome, abit damp made it fun to chuck about especially on semi slicks as I had no wets 🙈
      My lines were very different but it's what I thought worked 🤣
      I bet it's fun on slicks in the dry
      That's my attempt 😜

      That was looking really good! Not bad at all and looked loads of fun. Fair play for taking the rumbles through church, I always turn in a bit late and miss them but do try use all the exit kerb in the dry for max throttle up the hill. Nice half spin at the chicane 😁 it happens. Have you been out since?

      Yeah the back ends abit light on this and locks up (no abs or brake bias) the rear with ease, that was my attempt at trying to keep up with the car Infront 🤣

    Hi James, great video! When you come off the gas, would this not upset the balance of the car as you want to keep wheels engaged? Hope that makes sense 😅 and thanks in advance

      Hi Amy! Thanks for the comment. Lift off oversteer isn’t too bad in the 206 I have to say, it’s a very forgiving car. Is there a particular part of the lap/corner you were referring to?

  • @doma5262
    @doma5262 3 месяца назад

    What so you normally lap at when there isn't a car in front towing you?

    • @JamesWilson234
      @JamesWilson234  3 месяца назад

      Hard to say for a few reasons. This was my old car and I’m a lot faster in my new 206. However on my last 2 visits I broke down in quali and then it monsooned the following year. And I couldn’t make it this year! So no improvement on lap time yet in the new car!

      Every car will be different and you find your own braking points as you build up confidence per lap. But I’ll definitely consider adding my own braking points into future videos if they would be helpful. Thanks for watching 😎
