Nick! Why must you post these wonderful videos during work hours!!!! Why the hell can I watch RUclips on my Bloomberg terminal!!! Andddd there goes ten "BUCKS"..... Sorry Clients but Nick Murry's review of the 993 911 is just more important than your money!!
Thanks Nick, I have a 96 Carrera and can attest that you did a very good job describing the 993. So first off thank you for the very genuine review. Two things I would add concerning the experience of owning a 993. The first is when you close the door as you get into the car. The ping sound the door makes is glorious. It screams quality and I swear is just brilliant. The second is the sound the engine makes on start up. Honestly the engine sounds great all the time, but on start up is crazy amazing. When I get in my car, close the door and start that engine I know I am going to have a great drive. Thanks again Nick!
The Porsche lover in me regretted liking this video because it had 959 upvotes before I made it 960. Nevertheless, amazing video. We're lucky to have you review these amazing cars!
Im so happy that I own a 1992 Porsche 964 Cabriolet in Purple, such an od ball colour ! When you ever come to munich Nick, let me know, ill be happy for you to review it ! Max
My favourite car reviewer doing my favourite car model... I almost died when I saw this pop up on my feed!! I love that you cover the minute details in your Porsche reviews no one else does, like pedal position and rear view visibility etc
I have a 993 4s and agree with your review. Very reliable car and a somewhat quirky experience to sit in and drive. I added the new Porsche classic radio and NAV and it actually matched up perfectly with the old interior style.
Nick, I've had 2 boaters (986, 987) and currently have a 911 (996 CARRERA 4S cabriolet) I love them all. The boxster is MUCH more practical than a 911. The rear seats in a 911 are no-where near as useful as the rear trunk of the boxster. Golf clubs in the rear trunk, travel bags in the front trunk, 2 adults in comfort.....the boxster wins every time. Also rear wheel drive boxster steering is TELEPATHIC its that good. 911 advantages: all wheel drive in poor road conditions. Great traction, extra power (325bhp) and tellingly, no depreciation! The 996 is great value here in the U.K. It's a great car but not too expensive, so you can get the proper Porsche experience. Boxster is the better design though.
Exact duplicate of my '95 993. Don't know how many miles that has but it appears to be in excellent condition. Mine has 40,000 and is likewise in excellent condition. You didn't mention the fact that the '95 is the only 993 that has OBDI and cars with OBDII turn on the check engine light when some ports get clogged with carbon. I received the towel when I got back, so thank you. I intend to utilize it on the 993 today. Thanks for the stickers.
Well Nick: You confirmed it. I'm livin the dream and then some. The Sierras are my backyard. I'm retired. The top doesn't go up till first winter storm & will be covered for winter. I'll lower it next March, period. Stays down all summer. No yellowing back window for me. Mine's a '96 Cab with Tiptronic S. Why you ask? Again, retired. I don't need no e'stinkin clutch replacement repair bill AND I've slipped gears in semis for 5 million miles. If it were possible to slip gears in a Porsche well, maybe but it is not. Varicam is cool too. 48,750 miles. Modern (blue tooth, usb, aux in) radio and blown speakers replaced. One thing I continue to hate? THE IMMOBILIZER! It can never decide whether it wants to cooperate or not. The other biggey? Putting miles on diminishes the value but for my estate. Which is zip anyway. I'm again, tryin to live the dream. (And succeeding as best I can.) Btw: the '95 you drove sounded as though it was ready for a clutch or...
Top down in March through first real storm in Nov. Warm garage, no live mice & battery tender & cover till next spring. Enjoying last few weeks of the nicest summer/ fall I can remember. We get a lot of dust and pollen. Fortunatly I'm not affected the car gets filthy dusty just parked on windy days. And yep, except for the North Coast (Lost Coast Highway & hwy 36) The Sierras are the best I've come to know.
One day with several days to enjoy.., Up to Red Bluff, hwy 36 to Fortuna then Eureka for the night. After that back south a bit to Ferndale, on county road. Then beneath the iron arch to Matolli Rd(google maps on gps) and follow Tha Lost Coast Hwy to the redwoods 80 or so miles south. Wonderful weekend for one. Bike or roadster. No one out there to help. No cell no nothing. 36 is 144 miles of wonderful road. Careful though, you're on your own on both roads.
Hi, Nick. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'm curious if you think it's a better value to buy a new 911 given how expensive the air cooled cars have become.
As an owner, purchased at 34400, 3 years ago, 48800 now and I know; everytime I take her out I feel guilt and excitement in equal doses. Which shall I be able to ignore today. It's mid March and the top is stowed till November. Screw it, Just waiting for the salt to be gone from all The Sierra snow this winter and we'll be on the road. Not a speck of rust anywhere. And, everything works except my relationship with the dam immobilizer!
Covet! cut my chops on a T6 356 (never should've sold it) Fast forward to the present, GT4RS in my garage. But this one pulls my heartstrings! Perfect shape? in my mind, yes 100%. Thanks Nick as always, well done!
It's too bad all the 911s got their values pushed into unobtainable for most people in the last 5 years. Great car, if I could pick I'd take 964 over for some extra retro cool
But that's not how pricing of these cars works. They are only worth so much because the people selling them value them so high. And that will surely not change that quickly.
Really enjoyed the video, Nick! I was looking forward to this since seeing the preview during your production quality video a few days ago. I love my 96 993, so I'm pleased to see your reactions. Was the car you drove completely stock? These cars do great with a few modernizing upgrades that further enhance what you described as "modern handling with classic engine." I've done the "rennlist special" on mine with Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, and a nice FD Motorsports stage II exhaust. Gives you more of what you want - that classic engine sound and even sharper modern handling. The one comment that stuck out to me was how you said the shifter throws were quite short. I've found stock 993 shifters to have quite long throws. Maybe a difference of basis for comparison?
As much as you seem to truly enjoy the experience of this older air cooled 911 that is for sale, I'm curious why are you looking to purchase a new one instead.
Ah yes, brings back memories of my 1980 911SC Targa that I should have never sold. Bought the SC new and drove it all over the western USA. Your videos are making me think about buying another 911 of some sort... There are some screaming deals out there on some 996/997 Turbos...
Great vids Nick - You're the best! Ahh - the 993 - My first ever Porsche - Thank you. Had this very model, a 95 (with the grab bar) base in Arctic Silver with the 6-speed manual. I miss it so - And likely worth more now than when I bought it. But now have a 987.2 Cayman - in Silver with the manual. Another classic design . Shoulda kept the 993 - so this one's here to stay.
Thanks Nick! Awesome, respectful review of an absolutely amazing car. That's the first 911 I've ever seen in 35 years without the Porsche Crest headrests. Looks absolutely smooth! Keep the variety of reviews coming, and Thank you for the time it takes to create these excellent videos.
No joke, when I was 16 I almost bought a red 993 911 with 70,000miles here in CT for $18,000.... This was in 2005.. That same car could be worth upwards of $80,000 in 2016.....
Interesting...on video, all Porsche engines sound pretty similar (with the exception of the 718 and Carrera GT). You should do a review of an older Ferrari (360/430) as a comparison to Pcars. Think that would be interesting to hear how you would compare them.
Nick - Great vid as always. Such humble delivery, very relatable. I'm interested in your views on the 964. I vacillated between 993/964 and ended up finding a cracking '92 C2 (In Greenwich actually) that I absolutely love. Just enough old coupled with just enough new. That said, I am still obsessed with the 993, like every Porsche guy i'm always looking for the next one. Lastly, if ever you want to review a little black 964 I have one for you.
Hi Nick, don't usually comment on youtube but extremely glad you've reviewed this car. It is very hard to find a good video of the 993. I did a quick overview of the car on my channel. Thought you might enjoy it since you seem to like the car so much :)
Hi Nick, Long time watcher, 1st time post. Congrats on your order. I think you hit the mark on your exterior and interior color/leather choices. Beautiful combo. Your wheel choice makes your 9114S a bit more unique which is always a good thing. I could go on with my preferred other options you did or did not choose, but we all have different tastes. Overall a very cool order and look forward watching a future video showing us the car. ... but no Sport Exhaust!? ... ha, just kidding.
What a beauty. You need to fix your mic or sound editing. All I heard was "Bad boys bad boys. Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you."
Hi Nick, The Classic Car Gallery has in inventory a red Porsche 944 Cabriolet. It would be excellent if you could make a video of this car, which I've always thought to be an under-appreciated offering from Porsche.
Air-cooled 911's are where it's at. So much MORE character than today's 997's. Which as you mentioned were designed by engineers and not marketing people. Whereas today's 911's ARE designed by marketing/sales in the name of the mighty $. Hence the 20+ 911 models available which I think is ridiculous. Along with Porsche marketing using a word like "pursuist" to sell the 911 R. And it sold out I think to relatively new 911 buyers. It's NOT a "pursist's" 911. 993/964 cars ARE!! Restored to mint condition or better (by Singer, Kaege in Germany, Manufukr also in Germany)...which is why they can ask the price they do...up to $500kk for a Singer 964. :) the 991.2 has too much tech to the point where it's removed the "true 911 handling character/driving experience" to keep up with the jones (other companies) to the point where when you buy a 911 today..it's really just a car with Porsche badging on it. Yes they handle amazingly. Argueably the best balanced sports cars today...but they have no soul. I'd much rather have a "classic 911 (992/954)" restored to mint condition or better. And the beauty about 911's is you see them around enough in most major metropolitan cities that they are "common". You CAN park them pretty much where you like without worry. Something you can't say about a Ferrari 488 GTB.
Neat dealership. Do a review on that Lancia. Middle of the night- it's raining- and your doing 100 mph through the woods on a dirt road you've never seen with a co-pilot telling you there's a hair pin ahead if the maps right - that's how they raced those things - Mad Max style.
Great review as always, Nick! 993s are just the perfect blend of modern technology with classic dynamics and styling. A 993 turbo is my absolute dream car. I am hoping the classic 911s eventually go back down in value. They're amazing cars, but I they aren't worth the massive sums people are paying. The 993s in particular are in my eyes the perfect 911, mainly the 993 Turbo, but they aren't quite worth the $100,000+ people are paying for them. With prices that high, people won't be driving them as much, and the last thing a 911 should be is doomed to a life of car shows and garages.
I had the opportunity to acquire a high mileage but mint base 993. I chose a Lotus Evora and a 996 for the same price instead. While I still am in love with both cars, I made a mistake lol!
Nick passes gas at 9:53? What do you folks think? The other possibility is that it's a denim on leather friction anomaly. If the former, did he bring the value of the car down? Discuss.
aabidam It's a figure of speech moron. Stop being so cynical. My life will be just fine if he never uploads again. Just expressing my hope for possibly seeing him review that car. Sorry you couldn't read my tone.
Actually, it's not the Porsche values that are the issue. It's the diminished value of the dollar. The wife and I use $.25 gas in 1968 as an an example. Gas today is ten times as much. Sadly wages for most all have not kept up.That $4.00 an hour union brewery job in 1967 in The City would equate to $40. an hour now and the $100. a month I paid for my 1960 Super 1600 Roadster as a 6 year old used car equates to $1,000. tday. Wait. My argument just flew out the window. My 21 year old Cab is a $1000. a month for twice as long as the '6 year old 1960 was. Course it has a/c. and power everything and 4 times the power with less than twice the weight. I'm getting confused now so I'll go.
Another great video Nick, always look forward to them. Watching this one I must say I miss having a handbrake..do not like these electric, push button ones they put on cars now. Miss my handbrake turns in the snow.. ps......Love all Porsche 911's including the 356. Both of my uncles had 356's (one coupe and one convertible) and I blame them for my PORSCHE addiction.
20 years old imagen the times when it was sitting there brand new in porsche dealership in those times it was like a buggati when it comes to wauw factor those times not every 1 had a ride let alone a sick ride like the 993
"I'll bet you do!" Damn 1966: bought a Super Roadster for $2,000. 00. Drove it for a year; 25000 miles, snow, whatever. I'd chain and go. One morning in Squaw Valley where I worked that winter, came out looking for the car??? Just the tip of the antenna in a parking lot full of snow. Traded it for a new VW w/ sunroof and fm radio the following summer. They checked the vin and I was told after the sale was concluded the engine was actually a Super 90. Thus ends the saddest story of my life.
I will be doing an update video on my 991.2 order this week you bunch of savages.
Nick Murray can't wait
bout time! ....I mean can't wait =)
991.2? sounds like your ordering a fax machine, just easier to write "Beetle" ;)
Nick! Why must you post these wonderful videos during work hours!!!! Why the hell can I watch RUclips on my Bloomberg terminal!!! Andddd there goes ten "BUCKS"..... Sorry Clients but Nick Murry's review of the 993 911 is just more important than your money!!
Shane any time you wish to race your astra against my beetle just let me know! : )
Your vids are absolutely brilliant mate, i love all the camera angles. it makes the vids so much more engaging. Another good job
Thanks buddy, hope your channel is growing.
Finally a proper review of the 993! Thanks Nick!!
I honestly like these more than the newer ones. They just look so good!
Air cooled naturally aspired engines are just amazing to drive.
Yes, they look better to me aswell.
Thats because you have taste mate)))
The only car channel I get excited to see a new update from.
James Downes ikr!!
Thanks Nick, I have a 96 Carrera and can attest that you did a very good job describing the 993. So first off thank you for the very genuine review. Two things I would add concerning the experience of owning a 993. The first is when you close the door as you get into the car. The ping sound the door makes is glorious. When I get in my car, close the door and start that engine I know I am going to have a great drive. Thanks again Nick!
it is my dream for as long as I remember to have a 993, lovely video, made me very happy ! Thank you
Love these older car reviews you do - Cheers for all the work - Much appreciated.
Max
And please some day review a 928 !
My favourite car reviewer doing my favourite car model... I almost died when I saw this pop up on my feed!! I love that you cover the minute details in your Porsche reviews no one else does, like pedal position and rear view visibility etc
You videos are better than most professional car magazine videos.
I have a 993 4s and agree with your review. Very reliable car and a somewhat quirky experience to sit in and drive. I added the new Porsche classic radio and NAV and it actually matched up perfectly with the old interior style.
Nick legend great review, thanks to you I bought mine 2 years ago after watching your video have not look back.
i love that exterior design and the clean and classic interior
A lot of effort is going into making these videos and you've become a lot more approachable, thanks for all the hard work.
If all the residential areas could be like Connecticut. I mean, OMG, this is suburb heaven!!!
Nick, I've had 2 boaters (986, 987) and currently have a 911 (996 CARRERA 4S cabriolet)
I love them all.
Black or Midnight Blue over Tan 993 is best 911! So good to see these reviewed.
The 993 is my favorite! I'd love to own one!
Love the little rubber flap behind the filler flap.So you don't mark the wing with the fuel nozzle. Just little details.
Wonder why they have them (gas only filler) on the passenger side now? Now with a cap holder instead of the flap.
Nice vid as always.. 993's are pretty.. but I still think i prefer 964's. i get the feeling William would agree
I think that's a pretty fair 993 view. Excellent.
I have been from the Mexican border to Canada over the years on 1 or 101 above Leggett, CA
That is a beautiful example of a 993, I love these cars.
Hi, Nick. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'm curious if you think it's a better value to buy a new 911 given how expensive the air cooled cars have become.
Nice! I wonder if you could perhaps do a video just on your thoughts on the classic 911's v. the modern day 911's as a daily driver?
As an owner, purchased at 34400, 3 years ago, 48800 now and I know; everytime I take her out I feel guilt and excitement in equal doses. Which shall I be able to ignore today. It's mid March and the top is stowed till November. Screw it, Just waiting for the salt to be gone from all The Sierra snow this winter and we'll be on the road. Not a speck of rust anywhere. So perfect.
Wish I could afford a 993.
It's too bad all the 911s got their values pushed into unobtainable for most people in the last 5 years. Great car, if I could pick I'd take 964 over for some extra retro cool
Hopefully they'll fall back down within a decade or two, the 993s in particular. They are too good a car to be too expensive to drive.
But that's not how pricing of these cars works. They are only worth so much because the people selling them value them so high. And that will surely not change that quickly.
This car is so great ! My dad has one and driving it is so much fun (unless you're stuck in traffic the clutch is so freaking heavy ).
Charming and succinct! Well done Nick !
Really enjoyed the video, Nick! I was looking forward to this since seeing the preview during your production quality video a few days ago. I love my 96 993, so I'm pleased to see your reactions.

You nailed it! You, the 993 & ya video are great ❤️
Just brilliant - how you edit it. The SOUND (without music): 👍👍👍
So cool that you own a very similar one today Nick!
I'm a simple man. I see +Nick Murray post a video, I click like.
Nick back behind the wheel of a 911. The smile says it all!
A new video from Nick, so cool !!
As much as you seem to truly enjoy the experience of this older air cooled 911 that is for sale, I'm curious why are you looking to purchase a new one instead.
Sam interior and exterior color as our '96. Such a fun car to drive.
I'm glad I still have my 993 C2, no traction control black on black. :)
That 993 is a stunner!
Nearly 80k of care too.
I really enjoy your videos, Nick! Keep up the good work!
No joke, when I was 16 I almost bought a red 993 911 with 70,000miles here in CT for $18,000.... This was in 2005.. That same car could be worth upwards of $80,000 in 2016.....
Ross Enzo same
If you invested that $18,000 at 12% for the same period of time it would be $78,000 today.
Ross Enzo My dad have a Porsche 993 911 carrera midnight blue
Love the 993.
Great video- absolutely love it (and the car!)
It really is a beautiful shape
If you have a 993 Turbo S you're quids in! 😀
It means you will make a large profit from your transaction (from Quid= English Pound),
Hi Nick, don't usually comment on youtube but extremely glad you've reviewed this car. It is very hard to find a good video of the 993. I did a quick overview of the car on my channel. Thought you might enjoy it since you seem to like the car so much :)
Thanks I will take a look
best 22 seconds of my life
Been waiting for you to review one of these! :D
That's a beautiful car. Love the design. It's not a Prius, but not bad...
Fuel cap on the driver side. Neat.
Hi Nick,
Long time watcher, 1st time post.
7:48. " This is the air cooled engine, Pretty cool. "
I may of laughed a little bit too much.
Love you Nick. xD
Interesting review.
Was there a particular year when the 911 stooped being dangerous?
1993
the 991.2 has too much tech to the point where it's removed the "true 911 handling character/driving experience" to keep up with the jones (other companies) to the point where when you buy a 911 today..it's really just a car with Porsche badging on it.
That is a very cool dealership with a great inventory. You must review their 356 Outlaw and their 911 Hotrod!
The car speaks for itself Nick. Shhhhh
Keep these in America! I'm sad to hear and see that these are getting bought up an alarming rate and getting shipped back to the fatherland :(
Still one here in Florida.
More for us 😌
Neat dealership.
And we are 5 years later and that $100,000 993 Turbo is 2-3 times that amount 🤦🏻♂️
from my point of view; the 964 "30th Anniversary Edition" is the most beautiful 911. I'll take mine in polar-silver. ;-)
What and when was your first Porsche Nick?
You looked quite smart in that video Nick, were you on your way to court?
I had the opportunity to acquire a high mileage but mint base 993. I chose a Lotus Evora and a 996 for the same price instead. While I still am in love with both cars, I made a mistake lol!
Title says 933 FYI!
The 911, Porsche 993 was introduced in 1993 as a '94 model.
Hi Nick, have u ordered ur 911?
Nice, informative video
Nick passes gas at 9:53? What do you folks think? The other possibility is that it's a denim on leather friction anomaly. If the former, did he bring the value of the car down? Discuss.
sounds amazing? is that a stock exhaust?
Yes stock
Mangus would approve.
Any 993 is my dream car
If you ever get to drive/review a 993 Turbo, my life will be complete.
You need someone else - a stranger - to complete your life for you?
aabidam It's a figure of speech moron. Stop being so cynical. My life will be just fine if he never uploads again. Just expressing my hope for possibly seeing him review that car. Sorry you couldn't read my tone.
These cars are worth so much money now it's crazy...
Just waiting for this Porsche bubble to burst.
I had 14" wheels on my '96 MX-5!
I think my 1994 Carrera 2 is just a fabulous car!
gidday from Auckland mate cool review just subbed
finally a 993!!
More then a $100,000, isn't that Gallardo money? Which one would you go for?
Another great video Nick, always look forward to them. Watching this one I must say I miss having a handbrake..do not like these electric, push button ones they put on cars now. Miss my handbrake turns in the snow.. ps......Love all Porsche 911's including the 356. Both of my uncles had 356's (one coupe and one convertible) and I blame them for my PORSCHE addiction.
I totally agree with you, the ebrake is SO annoying and the handbrake in the 993 works so well
did yoy ever let mr regular review your m4. if not id love to see your new 911 on his channel.
I will make that happen, I have been in contact with him.
awesome. cant wait to see it great review as always.
Would you buy one, Nick?
I would, I have been so close so many time to getting one. I had a green 993 lined up in 2008 and regret not pulling the trigger on it.
Who in the world wouldn't given the chance Pieter ;)
Since Nick didn't really answer it in the video... But you could be right. Still reasonably high on my 'to drive' list.
PieterA if we can find a time and place (which seems to be the hardest these days), I'm happy for you to try mine for a bit.
Jasper Maters Cool, I'd be happy take you up on that.
20 years old imagen the times when it was sitting there brand new in porsche dealership in those times it was like a buggati when it comes to wauw factor those times not every 1 had a ride let alone a sick ride like the 993
This thing is so damn cool
How does the heater work for these air cooled engines?
Very well indeed! No issues.
Nick man you are really compressing your footage too much or something. I assume you are using iMovie?
Final Cut Pro
Whats the weight of the car again?
great car and I wish I kept my 96 c4s
"I'll bet you do!" Damn
1966: bought a Super Roadster for $2,000.
Only $52'900!! :(
Cheapest manual 993 in Australia $95k :((((
Dont know why but I prefer the 964. Might be a good investment too.
Cancel your order and buy this one!
nick make reviews of 997.2 please
