    You'll watch an entire Netflix show even when the first episodes are slow and boring just because someone told you "it gets better." *But what if you looked at your goals like that and watched your life get better instead?*

      I got one better for you Khan;
      You’ll watch a show for one hour, once a week and know everything about what’s happening over the course of 12 weeks. And we do that with multiples of shows and multiple swipes on social media. Imagine if we found the ability to put that same one hour per day into our goals. I did. I had more upward mobility over the past twelve years than I had the previous twelve. Some of us would become omnipotent.

    "I never met a challenge I didn't fall in love with". This is a quote I heard on military SF podcast that really made an impact on the way I approach things now. Also, another understanding of stressors "a tree only grows strong by blowing in the wind, it's many growth rings tell its story of what it's been through". This paradigm of thinking and taking ACTION and not living in fear - taking incremental improvements each day, while not worrying about perfection - and being of service. These are things that have changed my life. Love your books!

      Do yourself a favor and go to a mental health professional (or therapist) to figure out why you feel like sht so often that you have to use. Of course there's the feeling like sht because you're using, but I'm talking deeper than that. I'm talking about how you probably feel like sht more often than you don't on some fundamental level, and they can help with getting you to feel way less like sht than ya do. The Conflict is the Way.
    Every learning is a conflict: stay concentrated (feel the whole), remain relaxed (no inner conflict), stay focused (see what others do not, you will cross the chasm of your external conditioning).
    A conflict reminds us of a learning that needs to take place in both us and others but it is never about aggression (pain of growth) either in us or others.
    A conflict is a story in search of a path to a resolution.
    A conflict stimulates change, growth, innovation ie a blessing in disguise.
    The trick is to pause often, focus on learning and the unity of self.
    We move from feeling disconnected, to addressing biggest constraints, to progress, to dealing with inner traumas, to joy and to a profound knowledge/flow.

    Definitely one of the 20 best profession development/business books of all time. Common sense concepts that you truly need to recover from difficult times by
    1. Make the best of bad situation. Jim Rohn use to say during the winters some people hibernate and others ski. Life is too short to hibernate.
    2. Keep a good attitude. Yes a bad situation from the outside is compounded when you are killing yourself from the inside. Also how can you make good decisions to recover if you have paralyzed yourself with unhelpful/negative thoughts. Changing the perception of a negative event to something positive, even if you have to lie to yourself, is necessary since the alternative will simply make the situation worse.
    3. Take action to get out of your situation and make life better for yourself. The biggest lie is that things get better over time. They do not unless you take the correct required actions.

    I was asked to compete against a young 18 year old weightlifter Judoka when I was 35 years old. There was a 9 weight class (9 lbs/level-class) difference between us and it was considered an impossibility to even try (I was the light weight). After we bowed in for the match he backed up and said to the referee, "He's not afraid of me." The referee replied, "No, he is not." Fear is controllable from a number of perspectives and takes practice to have the ability to deal with your fear.

    I am having deep deep respect for Ryan Holiday after watching this Book Summary and this is probably the best book Summary by Author himself. Meanwhile I am reading the Book. 😊

    It's so cool and serendipitous that I read a large portion of that book in early 2020 while travelling and hadn't really thought about the author. Here I am a couple years later and after watching his videos daily for the last month while I've been exploring stoicism more seriously, I learn he wrote the book that planted the seed. This is all wonderful.

    This is the first time I've been deeply excited for a book in a long time. I listened to meditations last summer on vox stoica. Life changing. Looking forward to this audiobook on my long drive to Montana tomorrow
