    The Rubicon of course has solid axles, but the ARTICULATION and ability to keep wheels on the ground is mostly due to SWAY BAR DISCONNECTS that allow maximum articulation. Quick disconnect links available for most vehicles but the Rubicon comes with a "hands-off" switch inside the Jeep on the dash that controls release/lock of swaybar.

    I was fortunate enough to have traveled the old Baja Carretera Transperninsular in the days before it was paved and this trail reminds me much of the Old Road in Baja. On graffiti: one of the things I've come to appreciate about graffiti in my more-recent Baja travels is that the dates often expressed within it will often help identify sections of the Old Road from the access roads created during the paving of the highway, which can be helpful for us afficionados. So I've come to appreciate graffiti and look forward to seeing it when I'm on the old trail.

    I thought you weren’t supposed to reveal the rock pile plaque? 🤨

    • @NayNayNV
      @NayNayNV 4 года назад +3

      Normally your not. I kept watching because I have never seen what that plaque said. I closed my eyes once I saw that it was a plaque so I still don't know what it says. I'm making my own trip there to take a rock and read it.

    Is there an option to avoid that water river crossing? or you went through it for fun?

    • @ThriftyOverlander
      @ThriftyOverlander  2 года назад

      The river crossing has been filled in some for the railroad construction crews so it is not as deep. The only way to avoid it is something like a 15 mile back track.

      Yeah, not supposed to show the plaque message. It’s intended to be a only for those who make the trek out there. Some people don’t know that.

    great video, thanks! any chance you would have a suggestion on whether a stock 4runner could make this trip?

    • @bennyh384
      @bennyh384 4 года назад +2

      Currently have better setup but ran this trail, even Mengel Pass in Death Valley with complete stock tacoma with no locker in "All-Season" street tires. Call me crazy but I even ran few popular trails in Moab and Colorado with it. Had few souped up Jeepers laughing at my stock taco with street tires and nerf bar. Lol. Remember your stock 4runner is more capable than stock tacoma. Do recommend AT tires, steel(not aluminum) skid plate, rock slider(not nerf bar) for peace of mind. Always check the weather and avoid flash flood season.

      @@bennyh384 awesome, thanks for the tips and info.. will be going this Jan!

    • @ThriftyOverlander
      @ThriftyOverlander  4 года назад +2

      I am sure a stock 4runner could make it, not as easily as something more built, might have to take it slower and more carefully. I agree better tires is the most important 1st upgrade to handle offroading.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. Is there a bypass for that deep water crossing at all or is that the only way out?

    • @charlessmart7640
      @charlessmart7640 3 года назад

      Someone stated rocks have now been laid in this crossing eliminating the deep water.

    • @ThriftyOverlander
      @ThriftyOverlander  3 года назад

      No by pass without going back many miles. There is come construction going on with the railroad and they filled it in some so I think its at least a foot less deep now.

    Your not supposed to tell anyone what the plaque says. You earn that. Great job. 🙁.
    And running the trail in reverse destroys it. Clueless
