@15:10 incredible feeling. I love the Flattops. I snowmobile there in the winter out of Oak Creek On the NE Side up to Dunckley Pass. Snow is always deep and zero and I mean zero crowd! Need to go to this area soon… that lake is incredible.

Awesome and just subbed . Excellent no fluff or crappy music .Just the way a wilderness trails video should be made. As a fellow Coloradoan your compelling overview of land history reminds us trail users that there were others here long before us and to respect the lands. . Also your sense of preservation and conservation while admitting to being a tiny part of a BIG problem, as we all are, keeps things real and in perspective. Looking forward to watching your other videos.
Some friends and I camped here last weekend, exact same camp spot and fire ring at the end of the trail. Epic. The cost/struggle of getting there is so equally rewarded. Transfer Trail is no small conquest. The whole trip was so rewarding, the dip in the lake was so cold and refreshing on the warm August day. We left via the Blair Mountain trail and saw an eagle and hawk have a rumble in the sky up there with epic 360 views. Even the Gravel road out had us loving the views, and possibly driving a tad too fast on the twists and turns. Both my friends said this was their favorite trail in Colorado and they have explored so many trails in their home state. Thank you for showing the beauty of this area in such a great video!

Great videos! I can appreciate your comment about not sharing the lake you camped at for fear of it being "over run" but let's be honest . . . don't videos like this just add to more traffic in these areas? Twenty years ago before RUclips, you could go up on a Friday and camp just about anywhere and often times now you have to go mid week to these remote areas or reserve a traditional camp site 6 months in advance and even that is getting difficult near areas like Telluride. What I fear is they will close off trails like Black Bear, and many around Crested Butte where you already get the sense they don't really like the 4 x 4 crowd. It is all public lands so should be open to the public. What's happening in Colorado is that you will likely have to be the 1% to live in the most beautiful areas.
How crazy. I was actually in that same area around that same time. Pretty cool area for sure. I just wish I was in a more comfortable vehicle. The ole 97 F250 is far from smooth. 😆
Actually I guess I was there 3 or so weeks later. Stayed in Glenwood Springs for a night and went to the hot springs, then went up to that way. Was trying to get to the bigger lake but came to an obstacle that I don't think I could have made it down, and definitely not back up if I had to. Was still a cool camp though. Heard a ton of coyotes all night too.
It warmed back up after this trip if I remember correctly. Beautiful time of the year to go up there, as the crowds start to dwindle. Hunters are your only campsite competition.
I would stay and wait. Setup camp, get the fire and and catch some fish for dinner so your friends all set and happy when they arrive. Rock and Roll Brother!
I get anxiety worrying about people, especially when I plan trips out. But it looks like it all worked out in the end! It was an awesome trip! Thanks for checking it out!
Great video so far, only 11 minutes into it. I am looking to get a Ford F-250 with rear lockers and 35' tires(the tremor model ) just looking for places it can go. I have seen a lot of videos where they do go on very difficult trails... I am looking for easy to medium first. I 'll watch the rest and see how the Tundra does.
I watch videos for most if not all of the reasons you mentioned. enough talking to make it more like a real or personal trip, good off roading, and the scenery. Narrating is ok, but I like the real time commentary.
Very nice. Trying to get my daughter to let me mod her voodoo blue FJ😄 Me and my boys are planning a trip out there for next spring when they get out of the Army. You wouldnt be willing to share coordinates for that lake camp spot would you!?😉😄 Thanks for the entertainment!
Voodoo blue is a nice choice 😉 I only share coordinates with Patrons that have supported the channel for at least a few months. It helps keep these spots wild.
What part of Colorado you live in? I’ll be moving to the Denver Area in September of this year. I’m super excited since I’m from Louisiana and not much land to camp or overland around here.

Great photography and camera work! Such a beautiful place! We’ve got cabin fever so bad and this put a big smile on our face. Thank you for the awesome video!
No one I’d imagine, 10,000 plus years ago the earths population got decimated. Glacial flooding wiped out civilization 13000 years ago so they were probably up there on the high ground to escape that, and ended up living there until the late 1800s. Lots of cultures back then went to high ground around that same period.
The Navajo would probably claim it. But the Hopi would dispute it on principle. But they make. These are people who will make claims on the moon too so believe what you will the claims of nomads.
They have done pretty good actually! I’ve taken the transmission skid off and beaten it flat before, the others haven’t needed it. I think I will go for steel on the next vehicle because they seem to be much lower profile. Not entirely sure yet though!
@@IndependenceOverland Nice. Yeah I decided to go with steel for my fj. Jeep had steel and bent those too. The extra weight being low probably helps the cog. What’s the next vehicle? Keeping the fj too?
@@Intentsrig yes sir, the Fj is sticking around. Not totally decided on a truck just yet, a few options are up in the air. I should know in the next month or two.
Nice video , I spent a lot of my kid years living in yampa Colorado , witch is close to the east side of the flat tops . Beautiful country, hope to go back one day and see it again .
Good stuff! Great storytelling and editing. Flattops will definitely be on my bucket list this summer! To add to your comments about the Bald Eagles, the Avian bird flu is definitely a concern right now as Bald Eagles will feed on dead waterfowl carcasses and can pick up the disease. We are seeing lots of dead geese on the Front Range right now. It's a highly contagious disease.
Can you do an online course on how to find places like that, map routes and etc. I have onX and been wheeling in CO for 2 years now but cant find routes like this :(. I have a taco, take me with ya next tome please 😢
Great shots, my family has been going up there since the '30's when it was accessed by Sweetwater Canyon on horseback, and I'm glad you love it, but do you have any concerns about what effects all the videos will have on these pristine areas? You appear to appreciate the solitude of it, how much longer will that last? Some poster say " look at this great spot, and we are the only ones here", not for much longer I fear. I don't mean to sound selfish about it, it's for all to enjoy, but can you imagine it looking like Taylor Park or Alpine Loop or Rocky Mountain National Park? I 'm afraid all the videos of "look where I'm at" are going to destroy it for those of you who love it as well. This is not intended as an attack, just something to please consider. Cheers and happy camping.
Your totally correct. This is a rare instance that I shared the general idea of where I was. Typically in my videos I don't share locations unless it is somewhere like the Alpine Loop, where its already a zoo. The reason I felt I could share a bit of this area is because every mapping company was posting a lot about it, its easier than ever before to find these places by paying a small yearly fee. But your correct, I should still be a bit more careful with the information. I have seen some of my hunting spots pop on social media (not by me) and the next September they went from ghost town to traffic jam. I will say though, that the flat tops are a bit different from other places which makes it less approachable. You have to drive for hours just to get started, you have to take extra fuel and be fully prepared. Alpine Loop and places like it have a gas station relatively close to every trail it seems like which makes it more accessible for people. I have talked with a lot of people in the valley who think the flat tops are boring to drive and don't bother going unless its on a snowmobile. Your concerns are warranted, social media is disturbing some of these places and as my channel gets bigger I should be even more mindful of that. Thank you for expressing your thoughts on it, I appreciate it.
That's awesome! I'm sure that was the same spot my wife started walking because we started to slide a bit. Adams lake is a nice place to camp. I see yall did Bowen lake loop as well! I can't wait till summer.
Then stop watching. 🤷🏼♂️ Subscribers at the expense of places I find on my own, and get to camp in without crowds is worth a hell of a lot more to me than the imaginary (and free to you I might add)button on a screen getting clicked. Look at how many people watched this video. 10s of thousands, and not everyone gives a shit about the land or the places. It’s how places get ruined, I’ve seen it first hand while living here. Plenty of people enjoy my videos as entertainment, as they are intended to be. Be resourceful, read the comments for clues, open your maps and scan around.
Wonderful production! Just found you and subscribed... I'm on a somewhat similar mission and would love to cross paths and collaborate sometime! I'll spend a bunch more time on your channel, keep putting out the great videos!
@@IndependenceOverland I’ll keep watching and keep in touch as I set off for my next big adventure in a few months!
Flat Tops National Monument ?? ( sort of south - west of Steamboat Springs . Coal country back in the day...
The lake ,camp site ,trail, scenery simply breathtaking, that’s it, leaving FL for CO !!!
Thanks for watching!
This year, the snow will be there allllll year. Expect lots of mosquitoes! The wildflowers are amazing up here tho. Enjoy!!
Yeah, my buddies have been hitting it on their snowmobiles consistently this winter!
We have an FJ and your dog could be our dog's twin
Ohhh sounds like a sweet pup to me! 🐶
Very ,but he isn't sure he like off roading
which lake is that
I don’t share exact locations of places I go
Yasss brother.
Great content
Thanks Matt!
You hit it out of the park. Great filming, excellent commentary and music. Good show!
Thank you Dan! This was one of my favorites to date!
What’s the name of the lake
I don’t share exact locations of places I go
Nice video , I spent a lot of my kid years living in yampa Colorado , witch is close to the east side of the flat tops . Beautiful country, hope to go back one day and see it again .
I wanted to head back up this year but it didn’t work out. I intend to soon, so beautiful up there.
Thank you sir! That’s crazy about the eagles, I didn’t know that. Kind of scary stuff!
Can you do an online course on how to find places like that, map routes and etc. I have onX and been wheeling in CO for 2 years now but cant find routes like this :(. I have a taco, take me with ya next tome please 😢
I will try to make a video like this sometime this year. Thank you for the idea! 🙏
That spot is sketch! We did part of that loop, just searching out a campsite. Spring is just about here man, so excited!
Enjoyed ever second!! But less music please
Nice, I'll add Adams lake to my list. Looks beautiful.
Absolutely fantastic!
Iffy on the hill slope? Air down the uphill tires.
I d probably subscribe if you let us know where you were at least sometimes. Otherwise what’s the point . Nice video
Then stop watching. 🤷🏼♂️
Subscribers at the expense of places I find on my own, and get to camp in without crowds is worth a hell of a lot more to me than the imaginary (and free to you I might add)button on a screen getting clicked.
😂
there be sasquatches in them thar hills
Haha well we can only hope. The natives would call them skin walkers 😉
Wonderful production! Just found you and subscribed... I'm on a somewhat similar mission and would love to cross paths and collaborate sometime! I'll spend a bunch more time on your channel, keep putting out the great videos!
Hey thanks for checking it out bud! Maybe we will cross paths sometime in the future!
@@IndependenceOverland I’ll keep watching and keep in touch as I set off for my next big adventure in a few months! (I just moved back to KS after 7-years in Summit County) I’ll be in the mountains again late this Summer or possibly next Summer after a West Coast adventure.
Thanks for putting out these awesome vids!
I have a rabbit & he likes to chew cables in half. :)
Well then, keep him away from my solar panels 😉
Music annoys
Sorry next time I’ll call you and get your approval.
Yeah I drove in Adams like from rifle fish for few hours and drove out in one day for the Ford Ranger no problems
Very cool!
I’m not sponsored by them, I’m just wearing the t shirt🤷🏻♂️
I got a shirt from the overland expo from them. They hand them out to everyone. Have never been sponsored by them, and was not sponsored by a single company at the time I filmed this. Thanks 🤙
