I always watch your videos, today I had the courage to write... I'm very discouraged with my projects and with life. Watching today I decided that I'm going to fix my bus! Thanks for the encouragement! A hug from Brazil 👊
Go ahead, Rodrigo! As Larry said, there are plenty of places still waiting for your sigh. No matter how old-or young-you are, it’s never too late or too soon. I hope you capture those experiences on tape to share your personal impression of the world with us.
Friend, I still don't know how to speak English and I don't understand much of what you say in your videos. But a VW Bus and a free life are enough to keep me hooked on your videos. A hug from Brazil❤🎉
Gorgeus bus, ive had 3 pre 67', 66', 65' and driven to Mexico and crossed the country and So Cal to Washington..They seemed so big when i was young but in reality these are so tiny. But the desert w no A.C. and a a air cooled motor , your a animal dude.. I get its the winter but still you gotta wear winter clothes to drive .. props to you..
Over 45 years ago now while I was a senior in high school in 1978 my Buddy Lloyd & I and a few others would all pile into his 1954 VW Double walk through door bus and take off into the wilds of the Baja peninsula in search of epic surf spots and just camp wherever the day’s journey & waves took us . Now at almost 65 in my life I still feel the need to get out in areas of little to no others and just chill . Not in an Old VW anymore, but in a 22 year old GMC Sierra diesel powered 4x4 I’ve made into my personal overland rig . Still doing what you do in that old rig of yours takes serious Balls my brotha!! Stay safe out there & who knows , you & I may cross paths somewhere, sometime & share a camp fire & some tall tales . Cool rig ,& THANKS for a trip down memory lane here . C-ya . 😎👍
Thanks, Elmer! Fun Times out in Nature, then be able to share it with you! From the plates of rock sticking out of the earth to the perfect symmetrical shapes out in the middle of the Mojave Desert! Truly Amazing!
I've been out of VWs for 20 years, but I know a cool bus when I see one! Sales flap panel with Hurst bumpers! Nice rig my friend. Love it. I had a 1960 SO 23 Westfalia and a 1967 SO 42 Westy. Wish I had them back now!!
My dear friend Larry, I'm very happy to see you again very well and healthy. Really happy. Larry, your videos are awesome !!!!! Thanks to bring another Vintage Overland Adventurer !!!!! Keep going with this vibe!!!! Greatings from Brazil
It's great to see that you are well, Larry! And back on the trail again. You haven't lost your touch for filming & narrating in the time you were recouping! Thank you.
Corona is better than Coors any day! 7:12-20 reminds me of a saying: John 8:36 NLT - So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. Man, I like the pace and vibe of your trips. Even when you get stuck, you don't panic- you stay chill, like, hey, been there before, everything's gonna be alright. Y'know, traveling around in rigs older than we are, ya can't rush things! Good lesson, Maestro, thanks again for taking us along! Tim
Thanks, Tim! I like Corona and Heineken the only non-alcoholic beers I've seen in the markets. Just need to find the cans. I'm only a guest of the Mojave Desert. Just one more oil leak and I will be free, Truly Free!
It's great to see you out and about again Larry and I'm sure the bus is enjoying you spending more time chilling at camp even though it got a bit of incontinence and speaking of which if you look hard we too in OZ cand still find those Pixy toilet seats. Enjoy your day
Great to see you back, Larry. Wish I could hang out with you in my '61 bus. I used ti live out there in the '80's. I was stationed at 29 Palms Marine Base. At that time I had a '56 oval that I used to drive all over the hills out there. Miss it SO much. Be safe, buddy!
Thanks! Marine Base next to Johnson Valley / King of Hammers! That beautiful country my friend! I'm guessing it still had many abandoned mines, buildings, etc. to look at back in the 80s!
Camping the old fashion way👍🤏. My son have '72 Vanagon. Still running strong. Thanks for sharing. This keep my spirit up cause I'm battling a big C illness. I used to love camping.
Brother BoB! How’s it been going, don’t say raining ☔️. Do you still have the Westfalia? On one of my videos. I got like five rain drops on my windscreen and I called you out on it. “Hey Bob it’s pouring!” LoL Great to hear from you my brother!
Yo Larry, you have a childlike infectious enthusiasm and wonderment of all things natural, so refreshing in these days of over technification. A pleasure to watch, I actually think this is the best one yet, and you have perfected the art of self cinematography, in that the camera you are talking to , IS another person. Till the next time,
I miss my VW westfalia the best time in my life .its FREEDOM that it was i was feeling just u and the landscape and freedom it was beautiful like to do it again. went all the way to canada and all the way to san felepe in mexico good times😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Well that put a big smile on my face to see you uploaded another video. Love your rig and the places you go. You have a gift to really bring us along. Love your old school items, the stove for instance. Great music and vibes.
Howdy Larry !! This is your Dremel Brother up in Washington State. Not sure how to say it but I'm ecstatically HAPPY to see you back out there kicking back and listening to the coyotes call !! I've been meaning to ping you through eBay since I've checked regularly for another adventure and it's been too quiet. I've got some health issues also besides just getting older, but we learn how to deal with them so we can chase what we can still enjoy. The classic rig sounds real good, all those modifications and improvements have paid off. Looking forward to these great snap shots in your LIFE. Take care Brother, stay healthy !!
Hey Dremel Brother, I'm glad to hear from you, and thanks for the encouraging words! A Snap Shot Video will be a Good one! I need to get the Bus sorted first and get a few outing under my belt. You too! Stay Heathy !!
Wonderful video. Thank you for bringing us along with you. I enjoy the same lifestyle but in the forests and swamps of Louisiana and have the same peace, no hurry.
Happen to stumble on your channel. Your adventure in a vintage VW is so awesome! Who needs lockers, armor and 35s to go off-roading. Are you running 2WD? If so how you get through the dirt without 4WD? Amazing.

God bless you bro from down the hill LA basin (neighbor) You are a inspiration. me and my brother have splittys looking forward to the day take em on a trip.
This is killer. I did LA to Atlanta in our 78 bay window with my dad a while back. We restored air cooleds as a hobby growing up so I loved every second of that journey. Great video🔥
Glad you are back! I have been aspiring to do what you do in my own way. Slowing getting better. Hopefully I can get a drone in a few months or so. Still working out how to get the time off with family and work. Also I have multi car and keeping them running is hard ! lol. Cheers and have a great one. Erick
LARRRRYYYYY!!! SO GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK ON THE TRAILS! 🙌🙌🙌 Love, love, love this one. The quality is sooo good! I like that you're in no hurry. You gotta stay healthy, else, who else is gonna fight the good fight against mylar balloons and keep our state beautiful?! I could watch this all day. Much love! Ooh, and is that a vintage pop top from a soup can or something? Keep on keepin' on, I'll be here when the next one drops!
Hey!! Vintage pop top from a soup can or something? 😁 It was a good getting out. Did you see the way I stabbed the balloon with that stick... Anger Issues I Tell You! 😁 If I stopped for paper plates my bus would be full, mylar balloons are a little easier on me. I did find a "class of 1988" and couple years back. Hey Pop Top, I'll see you on the next one! Soup? Love ya my Brother!
@@VintageOverlandAdventures I did see you stab up that balloon! 🤣🤣🤣 Hey man, gotta let it out somewhere :D Glad to see you out. Can't wait to see more!
Great video, love your VW van too. Talk about old school, I like the simplicity of your setup and great music choice. Another great area you should explore is Kofa, AZ.
Hey, you two! If you see me stuck or cookin' up something good, stop in and help me out! 😁 I watched a few of your Videos, the real deal! Thanks so much for chiming in! Much Love, Larry
I’ve watched many videos where people have found these VW buses in the most remote places out in the middle of nowhere. Seeing as how you got stuck in the sand. I wonder if similar things that happened to some of them in different places, somebody got stuck and couldn’t get out and just walked away and It just sat there until somebody else found it 25 or 40 years later.
Yeah, it happens. I found mine ('58 bus) abandoned in the woods while looking for my dog in 2017, it had been out there for close to 45 years from my research, now it's my driver and overlander like Larry's. Epic. Good Karma happens 👍
Thanks! I'm sure that BBB is out of touch with me right now. I still have a lot of healing to do. Being that close to people at one time, my brain would melt. 🙃 I have a difficult time just talking right now.
Enjoyed this very much! I drove a 67 Westy for years on all kinds of climbing and camping adventures, and it took me right back into the driver's seat, and, of course, right back into the engine compartment to figure out what I needed to fix or watch closely. I drive a 97 Mitsubishi Delica L400 now, but I'll always have a soft spot for VDubs! Cheers!
@@VintageOverlandAdventures Yes, another one I shouldn't have sold. OG owner, both rear seats, never been hit, OG paint, etc, for $500. Now I can't afford any vintage VW. 😭 I had that '62 panel from the shop on Foothill too. Bought that one for $1000. Owned now by a friend of Jason, at least it hasn't been totaled like my '64 was: ploughed into by an uninsured driver while parked on Pennsylvania. It ended up at Pick-A-Part. Another beautiful one gone, circa 1992. Great to see you back making vids!! I'm loving the adventures!! Especially the story about your camera playing a previous vid, and you thinking there's ghosts around or something. 😆
We missed you way too much!! I’m so happy to see you back!! I hope you find that oil leak soon!! Your videos always make me smile. Looking forward for more content!! Have you ever thought about getting a wood stove?? I have one in my 1962 bus, and I love it!! I can send more information and some pictures if it helps.
Thanks so much, I'm trying to get one more outting in this year. As for a stove, I really don't have the room for it. My buddy heater is easy to stash some place if it a cold adventure. 🚐🙂
Cool. You found one of the State constructed wildlife guzzlers. Sadly the state refuses to maintain them and it is left to private hunting groups like Quail Forever volunteers to maintain them and even bring water out during times of drought. You don’t see Sierra club members doing that for wildlife🤨. Come on back to OCTO in Feb and say hi🖐️
Awesome! Our VW Bus is 21 years younger and being refurbished at the moment, just came back with it (a Syncro) from Iceland. I love it! Wishing you a pleasant journey with Greetz from Cologne in Germany :)
I like the "newer" Coleman white gas stove. Surprised you are still using white gas. I converted my 1967 model white gas stove to propane a couple of years ago. So much more reliable. No messing with spillage from white gas. Temperatures are much more consistent. I will never go back to white gas for the stove. Now my lantern, that is a different story...
Yeah sandy roads would be my main caution. Actually only got stuck once, on a beach in Mexico in our VW, (what to expect?). Our current 2WD Dodge can be a challenge on some sand roads too. The old VW wasn't fast but it had a good heart and motored through some tough places. We met a lot mechanics around the country. That's lichen, on the rock, in the desert.
Hello, Thanks for watching. I'll look into it ( translation). I watched a couple of videos on RUclips. I'll try to add the "Close Caption" on the next one, and we'll see if that works for you.
@ 11:55 you say going to take a hour to put everything away.. brother even if you had company you still do it by yourself and would take 2 hours. enjoy being mentally healthy enough and at peace to be able to camp solo.... btw , get yourself a spare tire and a dog...
Packing up only took 20 minutes, and Lucky the awning wasn't up. Good Mental Health is a must for any SoLo Adventurist. The spare tire is inside. It's got a warm stop in the back. The inside morning shot you can spot it. As type this I named the tire "Dog", So I'm covered! 🙃😁🤙
Please credit the music you've used on this video .. It sounds like Ishi Candaday's daughter, who's name escapes me at the moment. Just remembered her name,; Olivia De Lacruz!
Your video is really cool, congratulations! My father had a VW Bus similar to this one. I wonder what the name of the song is playing at 10:00? Thanks!
they were a well built vehicle I had a 72 camper van that made a lot of mountain trip in my youth. my wife calls them motel on wheels I would love to have one again but she thinks I am a player at age 70 I laugh at that statement. I tell I am to tough for that at a tender age of 7
To much fun, My son "Vaughn" travels the western US in a 78 VW Bus. 1972 to 1979 = comfort, good speed on the hiway. Sound like you had a nice Bus! 🙂 Mountain Tops and all! Give the wive a hug and I'll see ya on the next one! 😉
Pretty cool. You wander the regions of the Mojave I am outfitting myself to wander. I am regularly going into four different spots but those are known to me, and I don't camp at those locations due to them being "fishin' holes" for pew-pews. I'm looking forward to an east-to-west journey across the Mojave Road some time between New Year's and Easter next. Hope to see you out there! at some point. Too, I've never seen a van like yours w/ the dual doors amidships. Was that a period aftermarket thing? Cheers!
I hope you see me out there too, as long as there are no "pew-pews"! 😉 Mojave Road is on my list. Zig-Zag across it. Hit the sites and cabins. Guessing 7/10 Days. Hide somewhere for the week end. The Vending Door was an accessory, S01 Westfalia Conversion.
I have used the traction boards. I love the challenge. The 091 Locker doesn't work or fit in a Tunnel Transmission with reduction box axles. I like my reduction boxes, not going to convert to IRS or Late Bay gearbox. Getting stuck in a little sand is fun until you're out of water. 😥 Thanks for watching!

What a supercool vkdeo. Made my dayokr my week. I'm go na do that.
Thanks Man! 🚐
Bonjour and glad to see you back on videos..Hopefully we will meet. Missed you at BBB. Maybe next year. Keep up the great videos. Mon Ami.
Thanks! I'm sure that BBB is out of touch with me right now. I still have a lot of healing to do. Being that close to people at one time, my brain would melt. 🙃 I have a difficult time just talking right now.
I understand hope you get better soon. Mon Ami.
Cheers!
Sounds like we are cut from the same cloth, my friend! 👍 Thanks for watching!
I miss my '64 Standard Micro walkthru!! 😭
So Sorry for your loss, I liked your 68 White bay with red interior. "Pigalle" Crazy Type 2!
Great video. Good music. East coast here so no scenery like that. Good to see you back!
Thanks for the kind words. The East Coast is beautiful as well!
Awesome! 🤩
New one coming on the 21st, Kevin 🚐🤙
@@VintageOverlandAdventures SWEET! Thanks for letting me know! 😁
Glad you are out and about Larry. Keep it going. Jason
Jason! Thanks my brother! Great to hear from you! Hoping to make it to OCTO in Feburary.
Excellent my friend
Thank you, I appreciate it!
I ran into a Guy that fills them. He has a well in Lucerne. During the Grow Farm era, they would siphon them dry. Hope to see ya in Feb.😉✌️🤙
Love this place.
Cool adventure.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I can't wait to go back in the spring.
One of these days I'm going to do the samething you're doing:)
I'll see you on the trail!
isso e que e aventura meu amiiigo thak you
Thanks!
Id drive over a sprinter van!
Thank you so much!! 😉
Awesome! Our VW Bus is 21 years younger and being refurbished at the moment, just came back with it (a Syncro) from Iceland. I love it! Wishing you a pleasant journey with Greetz from Cologne in Germany :)
Syncro, very nice!! Enjoy traveling in Europe when it's finished. 😉
The old stuff is my favorite, white gas! I bring out a couple lanterns sometimes. A Coleman 200 Canadian stays on board. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Thanks for watching! Lichen, Both the green and purple? BTW Nice to see your still at it after your VW Days.
My Bus is put away for the winter...
Wish I could get out to the Mojave right now instead of working, haha...
It's always a bummer when the Bus is put away or for me, Broken. 😉
Oh man, it's -40°F at my place today and I'm wishing that it'd warm UP to 10 above so I could take my '58 out for a spin. Alaska snow bound!
Many vw t4 working hard in my country bullding company ,vwt1 in my city only 2 ,weetfalia and doka i living smoll city in mountains
DOKA! 👍😊
Sit just right in sun would cause a fire wow
Blessings! 😊✌️
Try to take care of the translation. My love and greetings to you from Iraq.
Hello, Thanks for watching. I'll look into it ( translation). I watched a couple of videos on RUclips. I'll try to add the "Close Caption" on the next one, and we'll see if that works for you.
I really like the journey video - but the food .
Thanks Hector! I hear you on the food!
First time subscribe ever u got me with your genuine content and inspiration to get my 2003 Astro van rwd on the trail. Off to get my recovery gear
That’s great! The Astro is a good choice, we’re heading to the woods (Big Bear, CA) this month!
Looks like Fred Flintstone country, watch out for rattle snakes hi from Geelong Victoria Australia my name is Ken.
G'day Ken! How ya goin' Rattle Snakes are good eatin in these parts of the Mojave! As for the Flintstones, No Dinos here Mate! 😉
@VintageOverlandAdventures yup, the Mojave Green's are known to be some of the most aggressive of all the rattlers, oh boy!
I recently went to a funeral where they released a bunch of balloons...I was cringing the whole time...but it wasn't the time to say anything.
I found a "Class of 88" up in Big Bear CA a couple years ago. Under tree cover, stuff into a bush.
No reason a VW bus couldn't run those roads except tire thickness and you have good thick ones.
Thanks Larry! - Larry 😂✌️😁
Please credit the music you've used on this video .. It sounds like Ishi Candaday's daughter, who's name escapes me at the moment. Just remembered her name,; Olivia De Lacruz!
Posted,
Your video is really cool, congratulations! My father had a VW Bus similar to this one. I wonder what the name of the song is playing at 10:00? Thanks!
Thanks 😊 , all the music titles and Artists are listed in the description.
I see you on the next one.
@@VintageOverlandAdventures Yes, I found it. Thank you very much, friend.
they were a well built vehicle I had a 72 camper van that made a lot of mountain trip in my youth. my wife calls them motel on wheels I would love to have one again but she thinks I am a player at age 70 I laugh at that statement.
I like your adventure😊 Are you alone? I want to join with you if you want 😊😊😊
Stranger Danger! 😂😁🤣😉
รถเท่มาก ลุงก้แกร่ง
So happy you like the VW Bus, its a adventure all in its own. 🙂
And what’s that passenger side hatch? An ice cream truck?
Yes, Factory Option, Vending Door, Sales Flap. Made By Westfalia
Try purchasing some cheap traction ramps, (or) and limited slip or locker (trans axle)
Lol, good luck finding a limited slip or a locker for a VW. Guess ya don't spend much time around VW's, huh? 😂MAGA!
@ you can buy just the differential and build. They do make them , genius
@@VintageOverlandAdventures lol, wouldn't it be cool to have a triple-locked 4WD Splitty?! ...Synchro Splitty!
@@IAm1InTheIAm Cheaper to buy 100K Jeep. 🤣
