Glad to get this sort of perspective of an ABL game! I've watched NPB and followed ABL loosely from the early 2010's. You are not too off base with how NPB views the league, but it's not quite a 'farm' as most people would typically think of it. A lot of the talent NPB sends there are guys who just need more reps for whatever reason that may be. And not just any reps, but high-quality reps - as ABL is much more competitive than I think most people who are not familiar with it realize. NPB typically sends young guys who lost playing time due to injury or lost playing time due to some slump (typically also injury-related from the year before). The whole point being that they know ABL is more than competitive to be challenging enough for such players who need to get ready for the next year in NPB.
You are not wrong. They make basically zero money. The league sold the blue sox a couple years ago for $1 to the owner of GyG. The league is kind of life support. If it wasn't for MLB support it would be dead.
Sitting in rainy Portland when this video popped up on my feed. This was an awesome insight and I'm a bit jealous!

Curious why they made the runner who stole home go back.. Didn't look like interference
